Album Review : Janet Manyowa - King Of Glory

Janet Manyowa entered the music scene last year with the powerful Amazing God ft Dr Comfort Manyame. The track was well received by Zimbos all over and dominated the charts for some months. She then released her second track Ndomira Pamuri another superb track, my best gospel song for the past 10 months. The song is still a major hit, reaching the number 1 spot on the nations biggest gospel chart the Star Fm Gospel Greats. She released her last single Tarisa a couple of months back and it was received well again and is currently doing well in the gospel charts.

I remember saying to my friends Janet Manyowa reminds me of Legendary Gospel artist Mai Shingisai Suluma. To me her music filled the void left by Mai Suluma in my life and playlist. Read an article in the Sunday Mail where she said Mai Suluma is her inspiration so ya it proves my ears did not deceive me.

Now to the more important stuff, she released her much anticipated debut album King Of Glory over the weekend. Finally bought my copy and immediately started listening to it. Now the review for those wondering whether to buy the album or not?! Are the tracks good or not?? Should l buy the whole album or singles?? keep reading.

The album contains 11 tracks and will be doing a track by track review below :

1) Psalms 24 : The Intro ft Pastor E :- The intro is just a recitation of Psalms 24. For this one take out your Bibles and recite with the Pastor. The chapter gives glory to God, the King of Hosts, the creator and ruler of this world, the Lord who is mighty in battle, The King Of Glory. The verses are recited over some heavenly ambient music in the background. The intro gets one into a worship and prayerful mood.

2) King Of Glory :- This track is giving praise to the King of Glory. It carries on the theme of Psalms 24. The is a powerful worship song, its one of those tracks in which after listening you feel like praying and giving praise to the Lord of Hosts.

3) Overcome :- This track is for those who are feeling defeated, or those facing impossible situations in life. Through this God we pray to, you will overcome. He is there with you, and with the Lord by your side you will overcome. For with God nothing will be impossible (Luke 1:37). In a certain (minor) way this song feels like Ndomira Pamuri in English. Its a great song nonetheless.

4) Tarisa :- Reviewed the track a couple of  months back; Read Review. In summary, God has done something for all of us, this song is more of a testimony of how good this God is. Loved the song when l reviewed it, still love the song. God does a lot for me so this song relates to me a lot.

5) Ndomira Pamuri :- Reviewed the track and video a couple of months back; Read Review. In summary this track is just awesome. If you trust in the Lord as l do, this song is for you. It speaks to me, it empowers me, it brings peace to my soul and mind. The song was not voted top gospel track in the country for nothing. it also came with a fantastic video.

6) I Trust You (The Reprise) :- This is the English version of Ndomira Pamuri. The track is about not trusting in anyone but the Lord. (Reprise means repeat/ renewal ).

7) Ufanelwe :- Your'e Worthy. On this track Janet is telling the Lord that he is worthy of the praise. For all he has done for you and me, he truly deserves the praise.

8) Amazing God ft Dr Comfort Manyame :- This was the first single released. Its about praising God for all the wonderful things that he has done for you. Telling God that He is amazing, worshiping him for He is a wonder working God. "...Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!" Psalms 150:2

9) Kune Muponesi ft Pastor Michael Mahendere :- God is our healer "... and by His stripes we are healed" Isiah 53:5; "...by whose stripes you were healed". God loves us all, he call unto us to follow him. This is track for those who feel lost, those who feel are not worthy of his grace and love. Powerful song.

10) Muripo :- He is always there. God is always besides you through the bad and good times. " ...He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed" Deuteronomy 31:8. This song is about thanking God for being there besides you all the times, and thanking Him for blessing you.

11) Amazing God (Saxophone Version) :- Substitute the vocals with the sax and the end result is this soulful, jazzy track. Humming you way through the track, only singing in your heart.

Now to answer the major questions:
  • Are the tracks good ?? => Yes they are good. All of the tracks on this album are just on point. They all get you into a worship mood.
  • Must I Buy the whole album or singles?? => Buy the whole package. There are no tracks which you can jump, all the tracks are great.
After listening to the whole album, am glad l bought it. Ndomira Pamuri still my favourite song, maybe it'll change in the coming weeks, time will tell. The instrumentation is standard and lovely, live bands and recordings rarely miss the point. King Of Glory is an awesome album, a must buy and keeping in mind that it's her first offering...WooooW!!! Respect to Mrs Janet Manyowa for an job well done.
