Top 5 Tracks : Zig Zag Band

Image
The Zig Zag Band hailed from the Amaveni, the oldest suburb in Kwekwe and consisted; Emmanuel Nkomo, Robert & George Lunga, Madison, Gilbert Zvamaida ( who later left to join Thomas Mapfumo's Blacks Unlimited ) and Stanley Phiri. They rose to prominence in the 80's, it was their song Gomo Ramasare which endeared them to many Zimbos. They coined their music the term Chigiyo Music and they explained it as follows:  Chigiyo music is a reflection of cultural norms and values through song, which they say can actually summon the spiritual realm to the attention of the living. Was introduced to them through the track Gomo Ramasare which received a lot of airplay on ZTV especially on Ezomgido, in the 90's ZBC was still a respectable and entertaining station. That was the only song I knew from them, well and Mudzimu Mukuru but did not know it was by Zig Zag Band for quite a long time. Fast forward more than 20 years forward I have tasked myself to listen to as many track fr

Is the JP sound replacing Dancehall ???

Music continuously evolves, regardless of how good a certain sound is, the fans will eventually get bored and need something new. Also largely contributing to that are the new artists who create a new sound in order to create space for themselves in the industry and once that happens, the evolution begins. Pop music is no specific genre but it refers to music that follows a popular genre at that specific time with the aim of pleasing as many fans as possible and not just fans of the genre that specific artists made his/her name in.  Because music evolves this much no artist remains at the top forever, they will be forced to adapt their sound to match the evolving popular sound and they cannot keep up every time. The moment they fail to keep up they start losing relevance and their descent from the top begins and a new king starts ascending.  In Zimbabwe Dancehall displaced Sungura as the  top music genre in the music industry and has been on top  for about a decade now. It has

Album Review : Vuyo Brown - Grace Fufilled

One of the joys in this trade is the new artists that you come across. Today will be sharing with you an upcoming artists that has been brought to my attention. So this article will serve both as an introduction and album review.  Vuyo Brown is an upcoming gospel artist, she is trying her hand in the very competitive gospel genre. dominated by artists such as Janet Manyowa, Min Micheal Mahendere, Tembalami, Min Takesure Zamar, Kuda Mutsvene, Worshipper Larry Gunda...just to mention a few. This album will serves as Vuyo's introduction to the gospel music scene, a good platform is very important, so lets see how large a foundation she sets with this album. The album contains tracks and as usual will be doing a track by track review: 1. Areka The intro gives me this strong Fungisai Zvakavapano vibe. On this track Vuyo is saying I was blindly travelling on the road of life all alone but that changed when she met someone who told her about Jesus and since then her lif

Album Review : Mbeu & The Mhodzi Tribe - Hatizvimire

This has been the band that has captured my attention the most among the new and upcoming artists. Mbeu is vocally talented and will remind you of Romain Virgo every-time he goes behind the mic.  The first track I heard from Mbeu was the track Mavanga and it won me over from the first listen, searched for his other tracks and was not disappointed. He came at a time when I was complaining about the lack of purely reggae artists on the local scene and he filled that void. Apart from his voice his music is always laced with some good themes. Hope he does not catch the pop music bug and keeps on delivering the smooth mellow vibes like he has been doing. Big artists such as Jah Prayzah n Oliver Mtukudzi have been grooming him, giving him a platform to showcase his talent. He has been opening fot JP on most of his Harare shows and he also frequents Tuku's Pakare Paye for shows. With such mentors if he remaims principled and stick to his sound he will make it big.  He has now re

Track Review : Janet Manyowa - Tomutenda Nei?

It's no secret that I have been a huge fan of Janet Manyowa since she released her debut album King Of Glory ( King Of Glory Album Review ). She is my favourite Gospel, nope Female artist in the country right now and it has been so for the past 3 years. She is leading the new gospel sound and evolution, last year she dominated the charts with just one single; Zadzisa. Hope this year she will release more tracks, an Album or even just a 3-4 track Ep, I need more of such uplifting and well crafted music.  She has been promoting this new single on her social media accounts for some time now and she made sure all her fans knew she was brewing something. This track has finally dropped and like many was already counting down the days to the release date. Failed to attend the show, because of some commitments but really wanted to see her perform live, will be there on her next show.  On this new track Janet Manyowa switched to a more uptempo rhythm which will will get people
