Proud Zimbo Recommends:

Image
The local music industry is now very big that it's very hard to follow and be up to date with every new artist or track and it's up to us the bloggers to try and cover much ground as we can so we can at least give exposure to as much artists as possible. One of the primary objectives of this blog is to find new artists or those overlooked artists and try to give them a platform. Today will be sharing with you a couple of relatively unknown artists that I have come to love this past year, artists whom I wish the majority of Zimbos get to know about. 1. Ti Sheme Switching to Rhumba was a very good move for Ti Sheme, his vocals do justice to the genre. Rhumba is now at an all time low on the local scene and many artists are switching away from it either to dancehall or afro beat. However there are still some rhumba fans in Zim like me and I cherish artists like Ti Sheme. Going through his discography one can see that like many artists he is also trying his hand on da

EP Review: Takura - Relationship Goals

Image
Takura introduced himself in a big way last year with the superb Stripped EP and he brought a lot of flair and swag to local hip hop. His music managed to get local hip hop music back into the clubs and party playlists all over. He went on to drop a number of very good visuals, in fact he is now the best when it comes to visuals in the hip hop fraternity.  Was hoping he was gonna drop his debut album this year but that was not to be, regardless he dropped a number of tracks to ensure we don't get starved of his music. As the year began many were dancing and singing along to his hit jam Mungandindii , he went on to release Kamushekero Kacho and Nhasi Ndezveduwo which are receiving a lot of love from many Zimbos.  He has now released a new EP and one thing that is quite evident is that he has moved to a more RnB/Trapsoul kind of sound, there is very little to no rapping on this EP as he was singing most of the time. It will be hard for anyone to classify this project as a

5 Best and 5 Worst Albums of 2017

Image
2017 has been quite an interesting year on the local scene. A number of artists have released album and have managed to review a number of those albums, my selection was guided by my Top 10 Albums I Am Looking forward to in 2017 which i published beginning of the year but it also expands to other albums I did not cover but managed to listen to. Have now finished covering all the albums I expected to cover and today will be sharing my best and worst albums of the year. We'll start with the worst albums. 5. Andy Muridzo - Tichambotenderera After his runaway success with Ngarizhambe in 2016 many expected him to carry on from there and solidify himself as one of the top 5 artists in the country but all that started to fall apart when he signed to military. Andy Muridzo Tichambotenderera Album Review 4. Peter Moyo - Mopao Makonzi Peter Moyo greatly improved his instrumental arrangement on this project, and in some instances the instrumentals would match those o

Top 5 Tracks: System Tazvida & The Chazezesa Challengers

Image
On this episode of Top 5 Tracks we go the king of Bhawa music: Fanuel Nyasha Tazvida popularly known as System Tazvida. He formed his Chazesesa Challengers or also known as Boys DzeSmoko in 1993 and he went on to release a string of hits. He was one of the top artists in the 90's. His music has this care free attitude, the way he sang and pronounced words had this laid back care free vibe to it which also made it perfect for bars especially at growth points. System tackled social topics that others may view as controversial or taboo and that endeared him with a lot of party goers. Its more like he sang using slang, his music does not sound as censored as many others, it was also not as polished which gave it this raw feel that adds to the care-free vibe. For an in-depth biography on System Tazvida visit:  System Tazvida on Pindula As a 90's kid who grew up close to a growth point System was one of the artists you would hear every-time you wet to the shops. This top 5 has bee

Album Review: Ammara Brown - Ammartia

Image
Have been waiting for this album since the beginning of the year, included it among  10 Albums I am Looking Forward to In 201 7 and its finally here. Ammara has featured on a number of hit jams such as ExQ's Bhachura and Tytan's Mukoko which is also included in this album. To show us a glimpse of what she can do when not featuring she gave us the tracks Watchu Want featuring her lil sis Chengeto and then towards the album she released Akiliz , both the tracks have been received well by a lot of Zimbos, but many remained a bit skeptical of whether she can stand on her own and this album will definitely answer that. Have been listening to the album and now will be sharing my views and thoughts on the album. Ammara engaged the reliable services of Walter Wanyanya's Ngoma Nehosho for the launch and like many other Ngoma Nehosho events this went on very well, the album launch was well attended. A fitting launch for the already informally crowned " Queen Of  Po

Top 5 Tracks : Maskiri

Image
Alishias "Maskiri" Musimbe is the ultimate bad boy of Zim Music, he is quite the controversial figure but one thing you cannot deny is the talent the artist possesses. His provocative style of rapping earned him a cult following all over Zimbabwe. He made his name with his explicit Blue Movie mixtapes which were heavily pirated despite being released at a period (early 2000's) when the internet was not accessible to the majority of Zimbos. After he had conquered the underground scene he cleaned up his lyrics and he went on to release some radio friendly tracks which got quite a lot of radio airplay. Maskiri was also embroiled into arguably the biggest beef the local music industry has ever seen between him and Stunner. I however was on the Stunner side but I definitely acknowledged the talent that Maskiri possesses. Today will be compiling my top 5 tracks from the artist. 5. Kuseri Nekuseri This track was a declaration of Maskiri's prowess, he was showc

Album Review: Courtney Antipas - Transparent

Image
Courtney Antipas is one of the finest rappers on the local music scene, he has been in the game for years has gained a lot of experience and composure which shows throughout his music. Despite being a Christian rapper he commands the same respect as compared to the best secular rappers. He has now released a new album which I have been listening to for the past couple of weeks and today will be sharing my views and thoughts on the project. I'm not really sure about the artwork, this is supposed to be a Gospel and uplifting album but the design leans more to the darker side. On the other hand one may interpret it as if he is baring his scars on this album, something which he does in the album hence the scars, so i'm kinda split on the artwork. Tell me what you think about the artwork???. The album contains 8 tracks and as per usual will be doing a track by track review. 1. Know Too Much feat C.O.G Keeping in line with the artwork this first track starts with a sus

Album Review: Fungai Nengare - Songs About You

Image
The local industry is filled with many big explosive tracks from various leading genres but at certain moments one needs to calm down and listen to music that speaks to the soul. This is where such artists such as Fungai Nengare, Prayersoul, Kevin Munetsi, Tariro Negitare come to the fold, these artists have so much soul in their music. Today will be concentrating with Fungai Nengare, he has released a new album titled Songs About You and will be sharing my views and thoughts on the album. For those who do not know him, he is the guy that gave us the lovely track;  Because Of You feat DJ Naida   From the title you will know that this is more of a personal album, dedicated to that special somebody in you life. The album contains 12 tracks and as usual will be doing a track by track review of the album. 1. Songs About You Something about this track reminds me of Lionel Ritchie's Easy Like Sunday Morning , I bet Fungai is a huge fan of that track and it's one of the

Artists Who Have Failed To Realize Their Potential

Image
In every music industry there are those artists that come and sweep you away with their talent but for some reason they just fail to realize that talent. Zim is no exception and today will sharing with you such artists from the local scene. 5. Ras Caleb When he dropped Tokwe Mukosi he revived the reggae genre in Zim, that track was loved by a lot of people and he went on to follow up with some lovely reggae tracks  ( Nehanda , Mutoro , Toropito & Mwana Wenyu Uyu)  and for some time many believed this guy was the new face of Zim reggae, his vocals and delivery were on point. He however started to try his hand in Dancehall and all started going downhill and now he near being forgotten. Had he kept to the reggae music that made him popular he could have been a much bigger artist. 4. Madiz This guys made us believe that Rhumba was not dead in Zimbabwe, he had so much energy and whenever he got on the stage you would definitely take notice of him. He got Zimbos dancing

Top 5 Tracks : Jah Prayzah

Image
There are a lot of big and iconic artists in this beautiful country of Zimbabwe and on this series will just be picking my 5 favourite tracks from those artists. So if you ever wondered what my taste in music is like, this series will definitely answer that question. So every two weeks will be giving you a new episode, so keep following the blog and vlog channel on YouTube. The first artist I will be concentrating on is the man of the moment Jah Prayzah. JP is building an empire in the local music industry, he is the biggest artists in Zim now and given how things are going he will be among the biggest in Africa. He is flying the Zim flag high on the continental scene and at the same time opening many doors for other Zim artists.  JP has been in the game for some time now and he has give Zimbos many hits but on a personal note he ever really caught my attention till he releases Jerusarema in 2015. So all of my favourite JP tracks come from 2015 to date. Without wasting much ti

Album Review: Jah Prayzah - Kutonga Kwaro

Image
This album is Jah's  key to continental domination, he is finally in a sweet spot whereby everything is going according to plan; he finally has the resources to produce the best quality music, he has a good reputation  which makes him able to collaborate with whoever he desires on the African continent. If he does this correctly he will definitely be counted among the best artists on the continent. Reviewed his past two albums; my favourite from him Jerusarema ( Jerusarama Album Review ) and last years Mdara Vachauya ( Mdara Vachauya Album Review ). Without wasting much of your time, have been listening to the album this whole week and will be sharing my views and thoughts below: The album contains 14 track and will be doing a track by track review as usual; 1. Kutonga Kwaro The intro track which is also the title track welcomes us with some lovely guitar work. The production is done very well, the track also introduces us to this new updated Jah Prayzah sound that crea

Album Review: Soul Jah Love - Ndofirapo

Image
Am not your usual music critic, that guy has taken a step back for this one and i'm in charge, may as well be better than him but semunhu ari humble lemme not brag....am now part of the Proud Zimbo,  in fact when I think about it I was already a part of PZ but preferred to be more silent but now am also getting my hands dirty so we'll be meeting quite a lot on this blog. You can call me Misfit ....so lets get to the main event: Soul Jah love is one of the best Zim dancehall artists and has been consistent with his hits. His kind of delivery is popular with the masses and his ability to make a hit track out of nothing is second to none. Soulja love has already given us hits like Pamamonya Ipapo and Zvinhu and now he is here with a full project called Ndofirapo. Albums have never been his stronghold but that is not stopping him from trying, regardless today we'll be sharing my views on the album The opening track is a catchy Ndofirapo   produced by sunshine famil
