The 5 Best Songs from the first Quarter of 2015

Image
The end of March signals the end of the first quarter of the year and l just thought to give you the best 5 songs released in the period in mention. The rating is made by observing radio plays, fans reviews and my own rating of all the aspects of the song. The list goes as follows: Exq ft Roki - The Way  : The song has an amazing afro-beat soulful feel. Its that kind of song that makes your hips move even if you do not want. The vocals are on point, Roki showed his amazing vocal ability on the chorus and verse. ( like this, like that, control, relax, chiuno, chiuno, go low go low...ohhh my ) And Exq deliver his always chilled verses which blended perfectly into the beat and feel of the song. Superb Song. Soul Afrika ft Tehn Diamond - Newe  : These guys are really are dominating 2015, of the songs they released this year Newe is the best. The song has an awesome instrumental. The guys regardless maintain their Zim identity regardless of a beat that is reminiscent of Nigeri

Jah Prayzah and Cynthia Mare - Murudo

Image
This is a collaboration between two Multi-Award winning artists. Songbird Cynthia Mare and crooner Jah Prayzah have combined forces to give us this lovely song Murudo . The song is befitting of the statuses of both these artists. The vocals and beat are fresh and original. Music such as this will always be welcomed by fans, a sweet love song featuring two of the most powerful and recognized voices in the music industry.  I just have two complaints. Firstly the song is all Jah Prayzah's sound and no elements of Cynthia Mare's sound except her voice. Mare's music is soulful, jazzy and soothing in an urban contemporary way which is absent from this duet. The song has the contemporary traditional feel of Jah's music. Would have loved more of Cynthia on the song. Secondly l don't know if this a redo of an old song but l believe l have heard this song somewhere and sometime back. This is a feeling one gets from listening to this song.  In overall this is

Tkae Chidz ft Pee Kay - Nhamba Yedu

Image
Skubhu hitmaker Tkae Chidz featured Ma1 hitmaker PeeKay on this afrobeat hip hop song Nhamba Yedu.  The song is produced by Simba Tagz, the producer who made both their hit songs. The beat is great, and is pushing this new wave & style of Hip Hop, but somehow it seems as a mixture of Ma1 and Skubhu. Many are complaining that after Ma1,  Tagz's beats are similar and this beat will just make people complain more. Tkae Chidz gave a great verse and showed his skill on the mic. PeeKay on the other hand was just bad. When he won the award for the song Ma1 there was an outcry from fans and critics alike, besides the great beats he sings on his verses are weak and in most cases awful, the only exception coming from Show Me Luv ft Busy Signal. Movies in Zimbabwe

Image
Was browsing through YouTube today and l came across a number of old Zim Movies that l loved, movies that had all Zimbos glued to their TV screens. As a 90's kid l grew up just in time to witness the golden movie making generation in its last years. I enjoyed movies such as Neria , Everyone's Child (Video Below), Jit and the game changer Yellow Card . These few movies were so good that nearly all of the people who saw them still remember the scenes, story-lines, actors and for some the dialogues. However as the economic conditions worsened from around 2002, the quality of movies deteriorated with the economy, which was understandable. Now that the economy has stabilized (as compared to 2002-2008), only a few commendable movies have came out ( Lobola & Gringo The Troublemaker ). Music videos have greatly improved but the movie side of the industry is still mainly dormant,(the two may not be directly connected but quality standards must be representative for both side

Janet Manyowa - Tarisa

Image
This song has made my day. Powerful song from  Janet Manyowa . With only 3 powerful song to her name, she is already one of my favourite Gospel artists. Janet Manyowa's music reminds me of Legendary gospel artist Mai Shingisai Suluma songs, powerful and uplifting music whilst also soothing and soft on the ear. This new song Tarisa is an amazing song. In the song she is saying look at the good things God has done for you; how faithful, how forgiving, how loving the Lord has been to you. This is a song that just makes you appreciate the favour the Lord has showered upon you. Her previous 2 singles Amazing God & Ndomira Pamuri  (currently my favourite gospel song) have done well on the gospel charts on Power Fm and Star Fm. She is slowly but surely making a name for herself in music circles, and her fan-base is growing as well. Get more information about her on her website :  janetmanyowamusic.com Listen and Be Blessed :  Janet Manyowa - Tarisa Buy the track at :

Ammara Brown- Havarare

Image
Watched this performance countless times and am still enjoying it to bits. This is a performance by the beautiful and sexy songbird  Ammara Brown . The song performed is called Havarare which simply means they don't sleep. The song is dedicated to the Sunshine city Harare, a city which is always buzzing no mater what time of the day is. The performance was done during the Shoko Festival end of last year. Being the daughter of the late Legendary musician Andy Brown, Ammara was already popular. She is definitely carving her own name in the music industry. She is a favourite of many, thanks to her charming personality, her beauty and her music. She is also a great dancer and a great performer as evidenced in this video. Watch And Enjoy: Proud_Zimbo

Maskiri ft Vito & Gze - Rorenzi

Image
Iconic rapper and Badboy Maskiri  has released another super song. This song is called Rorenzi and features new RnB/Soul artist  Vito  and Hip Hop Star  Gze . The song is about a guy who is crazy about his girlfriend and is  now ready to marry. He is telling his girlfriend that she should be ready to be his wife and he is ready to pay Lobola. Maskiri delivers his usual creative and crazy bars, Vito gives the song a soothing feel with a great chorus, Gze delivers a calm super verse. The combination of these three works great and the beat is one you can dance to.... Listen and Download the song:  Maskiri ft Vito & Gze - Rorenzi Proud_Zimbo

Mukoma - Muripo

Image
Mukoma  is a Buckinghamshire based Electro, House, Drum & Bass Zim Producer. He has remixed songs such as  Reverb 7 ft Tina Masawi - Close to you  and  The Weekend - Earned It . He is not that much known on the local market but has received quite a considerable amount of airplay on radio, mostly on ZiFM Stereo.  He has released a Drum & Bass track titled Muripo. The track is about fathers who do take care of their kids, those fathers who let their children live like orphans. This is s decent Drum & Bass song, not that hard hitting but good nonetheless. The Monkey Nuts - Mathos Pfumao

Image
This is a unique mbira, techno hip hop track from a band which is not yet much known in the local music scene. The Monkey Nuts in short are a hip hop, rock , electronic band consisting of four members. The group is gathering a lot of fans as many Zimbos are expanding their music preference. This group offers music unique to that which is popular in the country, they offer a funky refreshing sound to the nation. This song Mathos Fumao ( unique name) is a funky, electro, hip hop track which samples a rhythm from a song by the Legend Thomas Mapfumo. The song in overall is great. Different sound to my ears, am already a fan. Listen and Download:  Monkey Nuts - Mathos Pfumao Proud_Zimbo

Album Review : Seh Calaz - Bandit Rebirth

Image
The hottest dancehall act in the country Seh Calaz has released his debut album. The album is named Rebirth!!! Judging by his current songs and those from the album, it shows Calaz is serious on his stance of becoming more socially conscious in his music. He has left the dissing and violent themes. After the immense support and success Tocky Vibes received last year due to his meaningful, clean and constructive lyrics, he changed the dancehall scene in the country. With major success with song such as Shanda , Ndinochema & Kwatinobva, Seh Calaz has continued with releasing more meaningful and socially conscious songs and the album follows suit. The album was produced at the new and highly rated Kenako Studios located in Borrowdale led by Oskid and Dj Tamuka. Cashlibs and Body slam Records also played a part in the production. It consists of 9 songs.  I Have taken time to listen to the album and will be reviewing song by song below. 1)  Seh Calaz - Vabereki Vangu  : The s

Stunner ft Ngoni - Taunganidza Vanhu

Image
Tazoita cash Boss Stunner has gotten back to his roots and to his old formula. Banging Chorus, Great Bars and a loud beat to go on with the song. The Formula works. This song is awesome, and will cause quite a stir on the charts. Ngonie  did a fantastic job on the chorus (Stunner knows how to chose singers for his choruses), and Stunner himself did a great job on the bars, going back to his familiar ground. Whether the song will be hit such as the previous ones; Godo, Team Hombe... time will tell but its sounding good at the moment. Listen and Download:  Stunner ft Ngoni - Taunganidza Vanhu Proud_Zimbo

Cliff Jeans ft Cal_Vin - Regular

Image
Loving this song. New guy on the block Cliff Jeans features fast rising Cal_Vin on this hot joint, Regular. The instrumental is just amazing, respect to Cal_Vin for that. Bulawayo is seriously tuning out some dope hip hop songs and are giving the H-twn boys a run for their money.  Cal_Vin is turning out to be a Bulawayo's version of Karma, spitting the best rhymes and bars, whilst also offering some dope beats like Simba Tagz. He is proving to be a polished all rounder. This song is for all those who are tired of being regular!! Those who want to be successful and respected. Footprynce x Maskiri x Boyz Retonaz x Roby Gee - Ndadhakwa Remix

Image
This is a crazy afro hip hop song. The beat is different and quite interesting. The song is just like Tasangana Zhidhakwa by Shinsoman & YOZ, or Chibhodhoro by Stunner and Shinsoman, the only thing missing is Shinsoman. I cannot say the song will be a hit like the others mentioned before, but its just gonna be one of those song one played when people are drunk. The chorus seems to have been sampled from an old Thomas Mapfumo's song, cant seem to remember the name of the song. . Crazy Rhymes from Maskiri as usual. All the other guys tried their best. Local Celebrities: Real Names vs Stage Names

Image
This may appear to be a useless post to others, maybe it is but l just thought of letting you know the real names of your Favorite Local celebrities. Some of them makes you wonder how they got to chose that specific stage name, l will be giving my own reason of their choices and if the name is reflective of their careers!!!! If opportunities arise l will have to ask them about that.  Lets get started => Tehn Diamond   :  Tendai Nguni  :  The Tehn seems to have came from Tendai. Diamond, well it is the strongest and most beautiful material in the world, I believe he meant he is as strong and precious. The name is somehow reflective of his career. Stunner : Desmond Chideme  ;  The stage name did not emanate from his real name, but more of the effect he believe he would have on the music scene. Stun them all and also shine brightly. He has though shined over most artist for most of his career. Quonfuzed  : Macdonal Sheldon  ; Either he wanted to cause confusion in the d

Chashe - Like Fire

Image
Chashe is a London Based Zimbabwean Musician/Songwriter. She released her debut album Dhi about 3 years ago, the title track ' Dhi '  was received very well. It received quite a lot of airplay on the local radio stations and managed to enter into some music charts. The album introduced her to the mainstream music circles and also to the Zimbabwean people. The song  Zvekupenga  which featured Tinashe Makura was a major hit, with some coining it the ultimate new generation wedding song. I'm also a big fan of the song, has been in my playlist since it came out.  Currently Chashe is working on a new album which according to her site ( chashemusic.com ), is nearly ready to be released. She has released this awesome feel good song. Well all her songs have that feel good element. The production is different (soft rock/country feel) to that which we are used to locally which is good for our ears and also for the development of Zim Music.  The song is about love, that

Stunner : The Hits Collection

Image
Hip Hop star Stunner has released his Hits Collection Album. This album is a compilation of his long list of hits. This will offer a great platform to those who do not understand how Stunner rose from being a dancer for Ngoni Kambarami to the Biggest Hip Hop artist in the Country. Stunner chose to follow the footsteps of all the big artists who also release a compilation of their greatest hits. The Chosen 10 Hits are as Follows:  Godo ft Ba Shupu Dhafu Korera Next Level Ndimi Mafans ft Boys ReTonaz Vavengi Sele ft Robby Gee & Jusa Dementor Chibhodhoro ft Shinsoman Cross Country ft T Sheme Wadarireiko Team Hombe missed out ahhhhh. Lady Squanda : 8 Bullets Album Review

Image
The Queen of Zim Dancehall Lady Squanda has released her much awaited album 8 Bullets . Have been listening to the album all day and I have to admit this may be her best album to date. The production is clean and standard, the lyrics show maturity. The album was produced by Sunshine and they did a great job on this album.  The album album has 8 songs as implied by the title. The  album has more songs that are inclined towards a slow conscious feel rather than hard hitting dancehall tracks and for fans of conscious music like me this album will please you. The album will further solidify her as the queen of Zim Dancehall and will be a contender for best Zim Dancehall Album on the next dancehall awards.  The 8 tracks are as Follows: Ndaneta Nekurwira Rudo Uchandirambisa Zvandinoda Gogo Let Me Love You Unfriender Ndinochema Mahwindi Musakwate Police Proud_Zimbo

Trae Yung ft 2Geezy - Beautiful

Image
Trae Yung has joined the afrobeats wagon, and he features 2Geezy on this track. 2Geezy does a great job on the Chorus and he does it the true Nigerian way. Trae Yung on the other hand delivers her usual bars (Which many complain are too similar and lack variety) but in overall she does great on this song. The beat is great, good job by the producers and beat-makers. Great Song. Listen  to the song:  Trae Yung ft 2Geezy - Beautiful Proud_Zimbo

Self Worth Of Zim Artists Revisited

Image
When I posted the article about Self Worth of Zim artists, supporting what was mentioned by Hip Hop star Stunner last Month, it created a debate on twitter. The issue of self worth is what is going to further develop the music industry and the arts sector at large. Some bloggers/promoters are arguing that the view is biased towards established artists. Self worth is not for established artists only, even upcoming artists must have self worth.  Differences in brand equity . Yes it differs among artists and it will always be different among different artists. The question is should we now stall the arts sectors development because of something that will always be there???? if that is so then why do we cry and complain about artists exploitation by promoters. The government is not backing the arts sector so it is now the job of the artists & producers themselves to come together and create ways to collectively further the arts sector development. Personally I still stand b

Soul Afrika ft Tehn Diamond - Newe

Image
Ohhhhhh yes, am feeling this song big time. Soul Afrika are definitely pushing their unique brand of local afro-beat music and they are doing it big. This song is no exception, its a dance-able jam with a great message and beautiful vocals. The beat is awesome, thumps up to the beat-maker and producer of this song. Definitely a banger, I expect the song to receive a lot of airplay and dominate the charts. Tehn diamond as always delivered good bars  but I believe a shona verse would have been better (Tehn we need a bit more of shona). In overall the song is superb and am loving it (The beat and hook just made my day) Listen and Enjoy :  Soul Afrika ft Tehn Diamond - Newe Proud_Zimbo

Sunshine City Choir - Ziyoni

Image
Tuned in to the radio once I got to work and the song Ziyoni was being played on Star Fm and I decided to do a review and Ohhh am a big fan of their song Ziyoni. The group is based from the sunshine city Harare, and I believe that is where they took their name from. The group may not be the most known gospel choral group in the country, Zim Praise is the most known. However Sunshine City Choir has been doing performances all over the capital city and are regular performers at Zim Praise concerts and that opportunity is helping them get the coverage they need. Their Song Ziyoni is a powerful song that is spearheading their career and has found its way into the hearts of many Zimbabweans. The song was in the top 10 of best gospel song for 2014 and still remains a popular song. The group has now acquired a number of fans around the nation and their next offering is highly anticipated and will define how the group advances from the stage where it is.  Whether they will becom

Cal_Vin - Z'khuphan (Official Music Video)

Image
Cal_Vin has released a dope video for the chart topper Z'Khuphani. The song is currently sitting on number 1 on the School of Hip Hop on Power Fm. The video is well choreographed and the quality is standard. Well done to Cal_Vin for the song and great video. Also Casper Nyovest is a fan of the song, he tweeted about it a few weeks back he was in the country. Watch and enjoy Proud_Zimbo

PeeKay ft Simba Tagz - Seiko

Image
Simba Tagz has established himself as the best Zim has to offer at the moment, he delivers killer hooks, killer flows, and killer beatz. In this song he is featured on a Pee Kay song. They aim to replicate and even exceed the levels set by Ma1. The song rocks, and will be a favorite of many. Despite being a Peekay song Tagz owned the song and many will mistake it for a Tagz song. Maoko Maoko Maoko Listen to the song :  Seiko Proud_Zimbo

Stunner ft Mile - Down to Top

Image
The first offering from the Tazoita Cash Records Boss Stunner featuring Mile. The song encompasses  the meaning of Stunner's new motto #HatipfekeJunk . The song is about dressing style and being on point. The beat is Ok and the rap is on point. The swagger message will be criticized by many. The combination of Stunner & Mile works pretty well. The song will not reach the levels previous Stunner's songs have reached but it will definitely receive a respectable amount of airplay on the urban radio stations.. Listen to the song:  Down To Top Proud_Zimbo

Roy & Royce - Zvoita Kunge

Image
Roy & Royce Gomo dominated the radios and charts in the early 2000's. The twins could serenade anyone with their lyrics and awesome songs. Their first song was Handirege in 2002 which was a hit all over the nation, they followed with hits such as Zuva Rangu . Their Debut album Gogogoi was a major success. Their second album Tenda in 2003 was another major success and made them a household name. After that they went quiet and disappeared. They have returned this year with a mellow jam Zvoita Kunge. The song has a laid-back feel to it. The feel is different from the 2002 Roy & Royce which is expected. The song may not be the banger comeback people would expect but its a decent song.
