Mixtape Review: Myke Pimp - Yuck Mouth

Image
Mixtapes are a tricky thing to review, traditionally a mixtape meant a rough compilation of unpolished music by an artist. Most artists released mixtapes in hope of catching some producer's or record labels attention and having them offer a chance to work with the artist. But now the definition is blurred and means a whole lot of other things to different people. The other thing is mixtapes are released from all corners of the industry so its hard to keep up with them, but once in a while one mixtape catches your attention (Karma's Chasing Moments Mixtape) or is brought to your attention and you decide to take a listen to the project. Today will be sharing my views and thoughts on a mixtape that was brought to my attention a couple of days back. The mixtape contains 13 tracks and will be doing a track by track review: 1. Yuck Mouth The first track on the mixtape which also happens to be the title track opens to an engaging kind of instrumental. One of those instrumen

Track Review : Freeman & Anthony B - Time To Get Rich.

Image
Freeman had a superb 2016, it was probably his best year to date. He had the best album of the year Mangoma Ihobho and he started to perform with a band full time which saw his live performances improve immensely. He definitely was on top of the dancehall circles in 2016 and many waited to see how he was gonna perform this year. He started the year with a banger Gore Rino with gospel artist Mathias Mhere which is getting a lot of love from the masses. Zim Dancehall has already taken the top spot in the music industry and the next move was to go continental and international, which was proving to be quite harder than many thought. Freeman has decided to play his part in moving Zim dancehall to that next elusive step with his new jam where he collaborated with the Someone Loves You hitmaker and Jamaican Icon Anthony B. Have listened to the jam and today will be giving my views and thoughts on the jam. The track was produced by Dj Fydale and Nhubu Digital and they gave a superb

Track Review: Stunner feat. Guspy Warrior - Ndoenda.

Image
Stunner started the year with a scandal and the whole country was on his case. I'm not going to describe the issue, there are many YouTube clips, interviews and articles about the issue all over the internet. Stunner was being attacked from all angles by the media. Now with Stunner nearly every-time when he is involved in a scandal or beef he always follow up with a hit song, it seems his creativity is fueled by drama. He has now released a track giving his side of the story about the whole Olinda drama and how it made him feel. So today will be giving my views and thoughts on the track. The track was produced at Mt Zion studios and T-Man did a good job on the production. Love the reggaeton influences on the instrumentals, reggaeton has this allure to it, you subconsciously start bumping from side to side. The overall production was done quite well, nice job by T-Man. This is an emotional track from Stunner. He is giving his thoughts and feelings on how his wife Olin

Track Review: Chikwata 263 - Usatambe Nemoyo (Acoustic)

Image
Chikwata 263 is a local afro punk rock group from the capital Harare. They are very much unknown to the masses, their genre is probably the least popular among Zimbos which also adds to their low popularity. Zimbabwe is predominantly Dancehall, Sungura, Traditional Jah Prayzah type of sound and all the urban genres that came out of the urban grooves movement ( RnB, Hip Hop, and the aforementioned Dancehall. ). However Chikwata 263 does not let that stop them from making the music they want and this year they decided to join the Valentine's release wagon with this acoustic version of Usatambe Nemoyo wangu . As mentioned above this is an acoustic version, the only instrument used was the acoustic guitar. They went for a simple guitar strum progression to help complement the vocals. On this track they are saying don't play with my heart for I have given myself to you. Falling in love means that you are going to bare yourself to your partner, you going to put your trus

Video & Track Review: Tytan - Bho (Bata Bho)

Image
It seems many artists were saving a lot of tracks for Valentine's, there has been a flurry of releases today from all genres. Tytan is no exception and he has prepared something for this day of love. He released the track Bhoo together with the visuals late last night and will be giving my views and thoughts on both the track and visuals. The producer list can make any artist drool, it consist of Yagi Dojo, Young Nash, Tytan, Adrian Tate and Begotten Sun who is also the executive producer. With such an array of celebrated producers only the best is expected and they did deliver. The instrumental is sounding very good, the keyboard work is done very well, the bass is well structured and controlled. The track in overall is solid superb work by the production team. On this jam Tytan is talking to a lady he loves but who is in a relationship where the guy takes her for granted and he is telling her that he will cherish and treat her like a queen, kumuudza kuti anomubata B

Track Review: Tinashe Makura feat. Stewart Allan - Everybody Dance

Image
Tinashe Makura is one of those artists that always invoke some feel good emotions when they get behind the mic. His music is uplifting and leaves a smile on the face of the listener. The first track I heard from Tinashe was  Hello ,it  won me over and from then I was a big fan of his music. He went on to feature on another superb jam Zvekupenga which was and is still a favourite of many Zimbos. He also released Love & Laughter another lovely feel good jam. He however does not release tracks frequently so when he finally releases, it becomes sort of special. He has now released a new track, and I immediately got to listening. Today will be sharing with you my thoughts and views on the track; Everybody Dance . The track was produced by Anton Morgan, the guy who produced Zvekupenga and it also inherits the feel good vibe from that jam. The instrumental is bright and it invokes those feel good emotions. The arrangement is done very well. Love the marimba's in the intro a

EP Review: ASAPH - Diamonds Deserve Diamonds

Image
ASAPH is undoubtedly one of the best storytellers we have in the hip hop circles. Loved his KingsVilla2 album ( Kingsvilla2 Album Review ), it delivers something that many hip hop artists fail to deliver, that is a captivating story-line. His projects are solid, you cannot afford to skip a a song becasue you will miss a part of the story, you have to listen to all the tracks in order. He has now released his first offering of 2017 and today will be giving you my views and thoughts on the EP. 1. Things We Like. The track starts with spoken word which describes the different unique characteristics that make a diamond special even with the uneven cuts and shape.   The instrumental has this modern RnB feel to it and the arrangement is done well. The muffled vocal loop in the background further accentuates the steamy nature of the jam. This is not the typical hip hop/rap kind of vibe that Asaph is known for, he decided to experiment on this jam. The track is about having some qua

Track Review: ExQ feat Nutty O - Let's Talk About It

Image
ExQ has managed to stay relevant for more than 10 years now and he is not showing signs of stopping. His 2015 album Putiti shot him back to the top of the local music circles with bangers such as Alleluya, Bhachura, Mamoyo ..etc. Towards end of last year he hinted on a new album in the works and released a banger titled Jerusarema featuring another in form artist Freeman HKD Boss. With such a superb year behind him, 2017 was only going to be better and it started with him signing to Jah Prayzah's most talked about Military Touch Movement record label. Now that the record label buzz is done with, its time for the music. For ExQ its time to finish up the new album. He has now released his first track of 2017 and probably the second single from the upcoming album after Jerusarema . So today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts on the new jam; Let's Talk About It . The track was produced by the finest Afro Beat producer in Zim Dj Tamuka. The instrumental here is o

Track Review: Dj Stavo feat. Roki - The Journey

Image
Dj Stavo has officially opened his 2017 account. He last released Simudza Ngoma featuring Jah Prayzah end of last year and the visuals have garnered a lot of views on YouTube. Personally Simudza Ngoma  is one of my least favourite tracks from Stavo, I'm a big house fan and that track is not that good, if it wasn't for Jah Prayzah's pulling power I feel it was not gonna get as much airplay and views. Now he has released a new jam and this time he features Roki, have listened to the track quite a lot and will be giving my views and thoughts on the new track.  Stavo went for a Black Motion kind of arrangement on this track and I'm loving it. The inclusion of the acoustic guitar was a very good move, if you follow house music ( especially deep house ) on the continental scene you will know how much the guitar is like the the Holy Grail these days. The guitar work is done very well, whoever was in charge of the guitar did a splendid job. The keyboard also gave the tr
