Track Review : Lincoln The Prez - Hande

Image
Got to know about Lincoln the Prez when he featured on Verseless's Home EP on the title track Home  ( EP Review: Verseless Home EP ). He gave a great performance on that track and when he hit me up with a new jam I was willing to take a listen and see what he had in store for us. So lets see how the track fares. They went for an old skool kind of format on this track. More like the gangsta rap from the Nas era, the instrumental does not change, they created a nice 4 or 8 bar arrangement and then looped it till the end with minor sounds introduced to accentuate the track. It a hustle track as Lincoln said himself and such an instrumental is perferct becasue it does not take away the attention from the lyrics. The overall production is quite standard, they did a commendable job on that. Hande is about the hustle. It depicts the day to day hustles Lincoln faces in order to make ends meet. The inner force that pushes him to keep on hustling. Many people will relate to him on

Track Review: Reverb 7 x Fungai Nengare & NDNM - Beautiful Faces

Image
Reverb 7 is on a roll this month, this is the second jam from him. The first track was Bryan K's Heavy Machine , reviewed the track earlier in the month ( Heavy Machine Track Review ). Reverb 7 has earned a lot of respect from a lot of Zimbos due to his production skills and on this track he will want to expand his fan base and prove why he is one of the best house producers in the country. So how does the track fare?? Reverb 7 was behind the production as expected and he did a great job, the track its sounding very good. He however switched from the arrangement and style of Heavy Machine to a more DJ Kent type of style and sound and he did quite well. In overall the production is clean and fantastic. Great work. Beautiful Faces is a celebration of human beauty. Celebrating you partner's beauty, that unique feature that caught your attention, be it a grin, roll of the eyes..etc.  Lovely. Fungai Nengare gave a great perfomance. Personally have been following h

Proud Zimbo Recommends : @KevinMunetsi & @RyanKoriya

One of the primary goals of this blog is introducing those less known artists to the majority of Zimbabwe. Some may be new upcoming artists, some may be already established but due to location and genre they are not that much known. So its a passion of mine to introduce such an artist to at least one or two other Zimbos who had no idea the artists existed.  With that in mind will be writing a lot of articles introducing less known artists to you as I discover or stumble upon them. Will be giving you at least a minimum of two and max of five artists per article. Lets explore the local music scene together and help widen our listener base.  Today will be introducing you to two artists. Kevin Munetsi   ( @KevinMunetsi )   Kevin is an upcoming RnB Soul artist based in Chitungwiza. Got to know about him a couple of days back and did a review of his latest track Love 101 ( Love 101 Track Review) .   The lad has a lot of soul in his music, his vocal ability is quite on poin

Track Review: Bryan K - Heavy Machine

Image
Bryan K gave us one of the best album of 2015. Nyaya Dzerudo is a brilliant album and for a debut album, its the perfect announcement of his arrival on the local music scene. Managed to do a review of the album a couple of months back :  Nyaya Dzerudo Album Review . Also included him among the top 10 artists to watch out for in 2016 ( Zim Artists to watch in 2016 ). So how does Heavy Machine fare?? He left his usual sound and experimented on this track. Heavy Machine is a house track, and he worked with award winning producer Reverb 7. His track Beautiful You Are has a lot of house elements to it and on this track he went full afro house. The instrumental has a nice bass line and some simple but on point keyboard work. Bryan also added some nice guitar work on the track to give it that extra edge. Great work on the production. This track is a celebration of the African Woman as Bryan stated. African women are known for their full figures hence the zi Heavy Machine analogy.

Track Review: Kevin Munesti - Love 101

Image
Kevin Munesti is a relatively unknown but extremely talented artist from the ever growing city of Chitungwiza. He has been in the game for a couple of years but is yet to achieve mainstream success. Got to know of him recently and gave myself some time to listen to his tracks and I was impressed with what I heard. Luckily we got in touch and he gave me this exclusive track for a review and to share it with fellow Zimbos. So how does the track fare?? The track is on an acoustic tip. the guitar work is awesome and lovely. Maxwell Chiungwe was in charge of the acoustic guitar and he did a great job. On such tracks the instrumental is only there to complement the vocals and the sweet guitar work did just that. Overall production of the track is quite standard. There is a lot of reverb in the background but its not entirely bad, on this track it somehow creates a chilled ambiance which helps the track become full. Good work on the production. Love 101 is about confessing your lo

Track Review: Hope Masike - Kwira Gomo

Image
Gwenyambira Hope Masike is back with a new track. Her last track was a valentines special titled Nduri which was released in February. Included Hope among the top 10 artists to look out for in 2016 so am definitely following her and see if she delivers as I predicted. So how does Kwira Gomo fare?? Kwira Gomo was produced by St Elmo, the producer for The Movement. He dabbles in house/dance music and this track follows that suit but a bit different. The track is a string and ambiance fest; the heavy underlying strings leads and creates the direction of the track, at the same time creating an enchanting ambiance. Instead of the usual kicks used in house they opted for some original African drums and a nice guitar work, all laced with some nice hosho percussions. Nice instrumental. This is not a track one will hear on a house mix but its quite high energy and you can definitely dance to the track. Overall production is standard. The track is sort of a personal cry by someone wh

Proud Zimbo's Best Tracks of May

Image
The month of May has come to an end and its that time again where I give you the top tracks among those I reviewed during the month. Last month the top track was:  Thinking of You   Remix  by Kazz ft Cal_Vin, Q-Rigga & Legend Elly.  Only managed to review 4 tracks in May so this will be a top 4 list. So here we go: 4) Karizma - Shisha Pipe Laid back and chilled, Karizma opens his 2016 account with this nice tune. Love the instrumental and hook. 3) Takura - Zino Irema Takura has made a loud and serious entry into Zim Hip Hop.  This is a nice turn up track and it has killer visuals. 2) Trevor Dongo - Taking My Time Trevor is a definitely an icon now. Everything he touches becomes classy. This track is no exception, its smooth, great lyrics and a great vocal performance as usual. 1) Prophecy ft Kuda Chamisa & Baba Tencen - Kumusha This is a solid jam. A lot of emotions were released in writing and performing this track. Its deep. Couple th
