Track Review : Stunner - Time

Image
Despite the emergence and popularity of the new generation of Hip Hop, Stunner has managed to stay relevant. Like everyone he had his ups and downs, hits and misses but  regardless every Zimbo can agree kuti Mdara Des has managed to stay relevant over the years...he is like the Zim version of Jay Z. He has released a couple of tracks this year, Never Gonna Get It & Unemamhepo ft Tally B are my favourite among those he released in 2015. For someone regarded as a hip hop icon in the country every release is under scrutiny and has to be standard. With Mamhepo he ruthlessly won and ended his feud with fellow rapper Mudiwa for good and he further solidified his position as one of the greats. The major question now is that how does the new track fare?? Time was produced at Mt Zion records, uhmmmm he has been recording there a lot, personally don't know if its because Stunner is a fan of T-Man's productions or that Mt Zion is now under Tazoita Cash Records or they

Track Review : Mr Boomslang ft Sonni Balli - She's Worth It (Zulu Mix)

Image
Masvingo born Mr Boomslang or Kazz of the Bkay & Kazz fame has released a new jam featuring Sonii Balli. Currently Bkay & Kazz have split up and are both pursuing solo careers. The decision to split is said to be mutual as they both agreed it was time to go solo. Kazz & Sonii last worked together in 2012 on the track afropop jam  So Fine , the track was received well by their fans and that led to another collaboration. With the duo collaborating again we cant help but ask how the new track fares compared to the last one?? The new track adopted a dancehall influenced beat which is different to the Afro-beat feel of their previous collaboration. The instrumental however sounds good, it' mixed and mastered very well...its sounding good no matter where you playing the track be it phone speakers, home theater, car speakers. Great work by the producer(s). They sampled the " mbo mbo mbo... " from Margaret Singara's We Are Moving , and it paid off because

Track Review : Nyasha Timbe - Wandipedzera

Image
There is a massive shortage of RnB music in Zim, many artists are joining the Dancehall or AfroBeat wagons...it pains me. Nyasha Timbe is one talented vocalist and songwriter from Marondera, not that much known for he has a few tracks compared to other RnB artists, but when he puts pen to paper he always produces some amazing tracks. His track Zvaramba ( Walking Away ) was an instant classic. The only problem is that Nyasha disappears after releasing a track, consistency is missing from the crooner. Wandipedzera stayed true to RnB roots, most RnB tracks local or international have hip hop beats (Trey Songs, The Weekend..etc). Personally I believe Rhythm and Blues (RnB) must be mellow, chilled with more focus on the lyrics rather than the beat. The instrumental on this track takes one back to the Jagged Edge, Jaheim, Joe Thomas era. Loving the instrumental, can listen to this all day. Smooth. The track is about going crazy over your loved one. Thinking about them every time

Video and Track Review : Wellington Kwenda - Changamire

Image
Big Welly as he is affectionately known, has released the video to this much demanded track Changamire . His last video  Fire Fire  was received very well. Big Welly is part of the popular Zimpraise Choir, when he is not with Zimpraise he blesses us with some uptempo gospel tracks. The track is just proclaiming that Jesus is the King of Kings. Ndichangamire meaning he is the Ultimate King. He is proclaiming that it doesn't matter where you are, Jesus is the King ndiChangamire. The instrumental is also good. Enjoying the track. The video was made by Tiffman Productions. The video is simple, nothing over the top. Big Welly is popular for his dances and this video concentrates on that the most. This is a praise song, one made for people to dance whilst praising the Lord. Its not a contender for video of the year, but many will enjoy watching it. Proud_Zimbo

Track Review : Winky D - Mirror

Image
Winky D or Gafa as he is calling himself these days, is back with another tune. Was wondering when Bigman was gonna record under the popular Kenako studios and am glad to say he finally did so. Winky is a dancehall Icon, he has inspired Zim dancehall to where it is now but truthfully his recent songs ( Machikichori , Daddy Vauya ...) were just plain disappointing. Many people are saying his time is over !!!! but Winky keeps on saying ndiri Gafa kusvika ndafa, meaning he will always be Di Bigman till death. Will this new track reinstate him as the King of Dancehall???? Mirror was produced by popular producer Dj Oskid. The instrumental is dope, Oskid is producing hit after hit and this song will add to his long list of hits. Love the bassline on this song, Oskid knows how to give a track the required baselines. Mirror track is about self belief, loving yourself. Its about having confidence in yourself and not concentrating on what others say about you. Confidence starts fr

Track Review : POY ft MC Chita - Ke Summer

Image
Summer is upon us and summer tracks are coming out from all sides, each artist trying to create the ultimate summer anthem. POY teamed up with fellow rapper MC Chita  for this summer joint. Its been time we heard from POY and with Bulawayo making some noise in the hip hop circles mostly due to Cal Vin, POY has to release something to consolidate his place in the hip hop ranks and also to further push the City of Kings and Queens up on the Hip Hop map. Summer songs are great but have expiry dates, because once summer is over they are off the playlist so if one decides to make a summer song they have to nail it. Ke Summer was produced by Young Stan, and he did a commendable job on the instrumental.    MC Chita went crazy on the beat with a super verse, he went American crazy on the beat.....that is because he actually did sound American. POY on the other hand maintained his usual chilled flow, and delivered some dope bars in the process. In overall this is a good summ

Track Review : Q Rigga - Big Tings On EM

Image
Lloyd "Q Rigga" Ngwenya is a Kwekwe based hip hop rap artist. He has been in the music game for more than 10yrs now...waaaaaaaat!!!. Most Zimbos may not know much about him because he hasn't yet managed to breakout into the mainstream platform. Is Big Tings On Em the track that will make deliver the break???? Q Rigga collaborated with popular producer Joshua "Jae Mac" Makoni. Jae Mac rose to fame with his hit track Elevated which topped the hip hop charts some time back. On this track they went for a reggae/dancehall influenced hip hop instrumental. The end result sounds very good. Jae Mac proves he still got it, applause to you on the production. Q Rigga himself did not disappoint, delivering some nice verses and in the process creating a catchy party tune. This is just in time for summer, expect to hear it sounding from several stereos this summer. This track will get Q Rigga the needed radio airplay and attention. It may not be a massive hit but its

Video & Track Review : Pearl Natasha - Autumn Sky

Image
Pearl Natasha Waungana is an emerging young contemporary RnB/Soul artist hailing from the Sunshine City. Autumn Sky was taken from her first EP released some time ago, when she was still based in the UK. On her profile she says she likes to make music as pure as it was back in the days when music was real and not all computerized. When music was still true and honest. Uhmmm that's a huge benchmark to set for yourself !! time will tell whether Pearl can achieve her dream or if it was just a dream. Autumn Sky is a soulful love track, that's guaranteed to serenade you. The instrumental is hugely influenced by an orchestra with some soft rock attributes. Symphony Orchestra is always on point, too classic and smooth for the average ear but timeless. Autumn Sky has inherited some of those orchestra attributes evidenced by the fact that after 2 yrs the song still sounds as fresh as it was when new.  Autumn is the period between winter and summer, the period where trees s

Episode Review : Tonight With Zororo Ep 5

Image
The TWZ show is getting more and more better with each episode. Engaging and entertaining interviews are the major winning point of TWZ. Previously they interviewed Blogger and Arts promoter Larry Kwirirayi, Rumbie " NewsBae " Takawira and young politician and youth activist Acie Lumumba. This weeks episode to me had the most entertaining interview, Zororo interviewed Bishop Noah Pashapa and they discussed the state of local churches and other intriguing related church related topics. Zimbabweans have been through a lot of economic and political hardships and that has left many Zimbos vulnerable. During the same period there has been a rise in churches, the masses are desperately looking for a way out hence these churches have became really popular. With controversies and scandals following these new churches (and some old ones) there is need for one to ask where is Christianity heading to??? Is this still the true Gospel as explained in the Bible?? Bishop Pashapa has hi

Track Review : Raydizz ft Smylie - If Found Please Return to Harare (Rob Macson Remix)

Image
If Found Please Return To Harare  is one of those super party songs with an awesome house/afro-beat inspired beat. The song received quite a commendable amount of airplay in 2014, and was played in quite a lot of parties around the country. Rob Macson decided to remix the party song and give it an electro feel. Rob Macson is a great EDM Dj but is still yet to win me over with his music productions. Will this remix change that??? Differentiating between House, Big Room, Progressive...is still hard for me so forgive me is l categorize this track wrongly . However this remix is more on the Bigroom side. Bigroom is the most popular type of EDM currently and Rob Macson seems to have followed suit. This remix sounds pretty good, personally am enjoying the drop...in fact l love it. The rise may not be the best I've heard but good nonetheless. Comparing with other offerings from Rob, l have to say this is his best. Am not a huge Bigroom fan but l enjoyed this remix. To a

Track Review : Cal-Vin - Bona

Image
Calvin is putting in more work than anyone in  the hip hop circles this year. At the beginning of the year he was an unknown Bulawayo rapper...fast forward 8 months on, he is the biggest rapper from Bulawayo and one of the most talked and played artist on radio. Since his collaboration with TCR Boss Stunner Cal-Vin's stock has been rising and he is making sure we don't forget about him with his consistent releases. Despite many not understanding Ndebele, they still love him...that just shows how good he is. He teased us with a sample of this track a couple of weeks back and its finally out. On this track he is singing about him making it against all odds.  Look and see that Kid from Luveve doing it big. Its more of a victory song. He may not yet be the biggest Hip Hop artist in Zim yet but for what he has achieved so far, he has the right to celebrate and be grateful. On top of celebrating, Cal-Vin still wants to be better and scoop all the awards. Ambitions moves us

Video Review : Briss Mbada - Harare Hucci

Image
Briss Mbada entered the show with the Hit track Gudlife about two years ago. He followed up with Ane Swagger ft Carmene and Tatea Da Mc which was also well received by Zimbos. He then went quiet for some time.....he is now back with another track and a video to go with it.  Briss is signed to DJ Mbale's Record Label,  Raw Music. Dj Mbale produced this new super track Harare Hucci , and he did a superb job on the production. The beat is chilled and sounds very good....respect to you Mbale. Briss has his unique flow which is quite different from most rappers. Listening to Goodlyf and Ane Swagger one can hear the difference am talking about. The song is about Harare and its beautiful ladies, all the ghettos surrounding Harare and the kind of girls from those ghettos. Loved Briss's Flow on this track. The video was made by Southern Exposure, its my first time hearing about them. The video is good, not too fancy but well directed I enjoyed watching it. I cannot say they ch

Album Review : Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa - Chinga Chikuru

Image
Prince.K. Musarurwa is a afro jazz artiste known by many from the song Runonzi Rudo where he featured. Prince has over five years in the music scene. He has 4 albums to date namely : Kurarama (2011), Garamubere (2012), Gogodera (2013) and Chiga Chikuru (2015).  Prince Musarurwa is slowly making a name for himself in the Jazz community, he faces competition and comparisons from other Jazz artists such as Alexio Kawara, Victor Kunonga, Afrika Revenge and also from contemporary traditional artist Jah Pryazah. He is working very hard to be mentioned alongside the above mentioned stars. He released Chiga Chikuru early this year. Came across the album over the holiday, gave it a listen and ya it deserves a review. Chiga Chikuru is a 7 track album and will be doing a track by track review below : Chiga Chikuru : One of the best deeds is this life is to be thankful. This song is about being thankful and appreciating others around you. The instrumental has some great mbira r

Track Review : Nutty O - Go Down & Gimme Dat ft (Etherton Beenie)

Image
Nutty O is a fast rising Zim Dancehall artiste. Unlike many artists Nutty O is eyeing the continental and international dancehall market. His songs are a mixture of Shona and English and he uses the format used by Jamaican and Nigerian dancehall artists. Although overshadowed by the Mbare trio locally his music is most likely to be the first to enter the continental market. He is signed to Kenako Music and the top guys at the label are making serious moves to enter the continental market, that all bodes well for Nutty O and other label mates such as Roki. However having an organised record label is not a guarantee for success, the artiste must put in the required work and obviously have to be talented. Nutty Nutty O released the track Go Down, produced at the Kenako Studios by DJ Tamuka. The instrumental is fire, it more afro beat than dancehall.  The instrumental can make Nigerian producers envious. am loving it. Nutty O did justice on the track, giving us a great song Go D

Video and Track Review : Selmor Mtukudzi - Zvidikidiki

Image
Selmor Mtukudzi has released a brand new video. Her last video Nguva Yangu was hugely successful, it was heavily played on TV and the audio on the various radio stations. Being the daughter of Legendary musician Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi she will always be under a lot of scrutiny. However she seems to be doing quite well on her own regardless of the pressure. Zvidikidiki is an uptempo track, it has some afro house elements. Selmor was a pure afrojazz artist but since the success of the Nguva Yangu MacDee House remix, she seems to be switching to similar kind of tracks. We not complaining though,  the new sound is sounding very very good. If she only concentrates on afrojazz, moving out of her fathers shadow will prove an impossible feat, but with such kinds of  music she can easily carve her own path and legacy.  On Zvidikidiki (The small things), Selmor is emphasizing the importance of the small things in love. Its not all about the expensive holidays and presents bu

Album Review : Janet Manyowa - King Of Glory

Image
Janet Manyowa entered the music scene last year with the powerful Amazing God ft Dr Comfort Manyame. The track was well received by Zimbos all over and dominated the charts for some months. She then released her second track Ndomira Pamuri another superb track, my best gospel song for the past 10 months. The song is still a major hit, reaching the number 1 spot on the nations biggest gospel chart the Star Fm Gospel Greats. She released her last single Tarisa a couple of months back and it was received well again and is currently doing well in the gospel charts. I remember saying to my friends Janet Manyowa reminds me of Legendary Gospel artist Mai Shingisai Suluma. To me her music filled the void left by Mai Suluma in my life and playlist. Read an article in the Sunday Mail where she said Mai Suluma is her inspiration so ya it proves my ears did not deceive me. Now to the more important stuff, she released her much anticipated debut album King Of Glory over the weekend. Fina

Track Review : Courtney Antipas - GWAD (God's Way All Day)

Image
Courtney Antipas is working overtime preaching the word. Since the beginning of the year he has been in our ears every month, every day making sure everyone gets the word. In Feb he released Live Wise State of Mind EP Vol 2  which was pregnant with rich messages. He then in April went on to release Fal$e in which he was condemning christian rappers for prioritizing earthly things more than preaching the word . Last month he featured on Russuniversl's  Wierdos , a super super track in which he was saying we should be soldiers of the word and must never tire or be ashamed of standing up for the true gospel. Wierdos was the number 1 song for July ( Top 5 Songs of July. ). He is back again with GWAD, and how does it fare compared to others?? Is he still preaching the word??  Yes he is still preaching the word. On GWAD he is urging others to keep living God's Way All Day, mostly other christian rappers who get carried away by the world, concentrating more on making a good

Track Review : Brythreesixty & Lil Dizzie - Shay Baii

Image
Brythreesixty is aiming for the continental market with his new offering. Quite ambitious and its working out pretty well for him. On this track he collaborated by Nigerian Rapper Lil Dizzie. The track was dubbed Zimbabwe meets Nigeria. We've been witnessing many collaborations between Zim artists and foreign artists, some of them were major flops ( Simba Tagz ft Ice Prince - Don't Leave Remix ), and some performed well ( Calvin ft Casper Nyovest - Zkhuphane Remix ). How does Shai Bali fare?????? The track was produced by Mclean, I believe he is the producer who made Myke Pimp's  Harare Hairarwe Track ( Read Review Here ). The beat is on point although heavily borrowing from Lil Keshi's Shoki  Remix. Its sounding very good and its a kind of beat that if dropped at a party people will go wild. Lil Dizzie delivered a good verse, l don't hear Igbo ( am not even 100% sure if its the language he used ) however he was in sync with the beat so ya will give

Zyon Black ft Aura The Poet - Rudo Rwanhasi

Image
Reviewed the track preview a couple of days back, to read the review click here . Zyon Black finally ended the teasing and released the full track now. The song is a drum & bass track with some strong Dubsteb elements. Am happy the full track is now out, am a big fan of this song. The song fulfills the anticipation created by the preview. This will be a massive hit in the EDM community in Zim. Zyon Black is undoubtedly the best EDM producer in Zimbabwe. He introduced himself to the Zim music sector with the Nyoka Musango Dubstep Remix which is still a much loved track more than 12 months later. He Followed up with Mudzimu ft Prince Qwela and then Rova Ngoma . Now hes is back with Rudo Rwanhasi . The guy is just hugely talented. Listen and Enjoy, Recently found out that Zyon Black is also a music video director. He directed   Take Fizzo's Zion   video and what a great video that is. Quite Versatile this young man. Hope he will be releasing videos for some of
