Track Review; Dereck Mpofu - Mari

Image
Dereck Mpofu's vocals reminds me of Jabu Khanyile a lot. He rose to fame with the track Chisikana Changu Zimbabwe where he was advertising the beauty of Zimbabwe. Loved the last track he released;  Dzoka Kumba featuring Cynthia Mare, did a review of the track when it was released : Dzoka Kumba Track Review . I'm a huge fan of his style and the way he structures his music, he addressed serious social issues in an innovative and comical way. He has released an album titled Godobori and i'm yet to get my hands on a copy of the album...would definitely love to do an album review. Was very happy when I came across this single from the album whilst browsing soundcloud and after a couple of listens I decided to share my thoughts and views of the track. The track was produced by the Legendary Clive Monomukundu and he did a superb job on the production of this one. The guitar work is done very well ( that is a given with Monomukundu behind the prodution ), the overall arr

Visuals Review: ExQ feat Nutty O - Let's Talk About It.

Image
ExQ is absolutely owning this new afro sound that he has adopted. His last album Putiti introduced us to a new ExQ and I enjoyed listening to that album ( Putiti Album Review ). Besides from owning the new sound he has proven that he has a good eye for good visuals, Alleluya & Bhachura Remix are among the best visuals by a local artist from the past 3 years. With such a good track record when he announced the release for the  Let's Talk About It visuals I quickly clicked the link provided. Have watched the visuals a number of times now and will be sharing my thoughts on the video. Reviewed the track when it came out, read the review here:  Let's Talk About It Track Review . ExQ's Bhachura Remix is performing well on YouTube and is also receiving a commendable amount of airplay on Trace Africa and ExQ would want to keep the momentum going. He engaged the Bhachura Remix director Blaqs for this video and he did quite a good job. The track has a simple story-li

Video Review: Stunner feat Guspy Warrior - Ndoenda

Image
Stunner released this track in the midst of his public "divorce" with wife Olinda and it went on to receive a lot of plaudits from many Zimbos. Stunner shines the most when he is surrounded by controversy and this song is a testament to that. Reviewed the track when it was released ( Ndoenda Track Review ) and I enjoyed the song, well I still do. Stunner got back to the basics that made him an icon, Guspy (Escobar) delivered a catchy and superb chorus, all in all its a solid jam. Now Stunner has released the visuals of the track and as a fan of the track I was looking forward to it. We all know what happened between Stunner & Olinda, if you are not familiar just search for the videos all over the internet and catch up. This track is Stunner point of view of what happened and the visuals are doing a solid job in telling the story. The ghetto scene is a nice touch, many Zimbo's can relate to that, many of us have witnessed such drama in our various ghetto's. Th

Track Review: Plaxedes Wenyika - Now I Know

Image
If you a 90's kid like me who witnessed the birth, growth and currently the fruits of the Urban Grooves movement era then you probably sang along to a Plaxedes Wenyika song. She had that soulful irresistible  sound, her music serenaded and stuck on you. She released classics such as Tisaparadzane , Wadarireiko , Pasina Iwe , Hapana ,   Shamwari ...etc. For a quick in-depth bio on her visit:  Plaxedes Wenyika on Pindula . She then went quite for some time now but I'm glad that she is back in the music business, like making music and not being a radio presenter. Have been listening to Now I Know for some time now and I am ready to share my thoughts and views on the track. She engaged the services of legendary producer McDonald "MacDee" Chidavaenzi on this track and that was a superb decision. MacDee is fantastic on the keyboard and it's the perfect instrument for this type of sound. The keyboard work is heavenly, it complements the vocals perfectly. The ov

Album Review: Mokoomba - Luyando

Image
Mokoomba is my favourite local band, they know how to give a memorable performance every-time they get on stage. Their music definitely takes time for one to appreciate, but when it grows on you it sticks and its that type of music you know will not get boring or generic anytime soon due to its uniqueness. Have been enjoying their last album Rising Tide (2012) for years now and a new album was most welcome, to be honest it was the album I was anticipating the most in 2017 ( 10 Albums That I Am Looking Forward To In 2017 ). The album was launched on the 24th of March and I attended the launch with a couple of friends. The launch was simple, classy and all about the music, there were no boring speeches or MC's who try to make funny jokes on stage, no VVIP's, everyone felt equally special and to cap it all the band delivered a superb performance. Bought my copy of the album and after some time listening to the album, will now be sharing my views and thoughts on the album.

Track Review : Jah Prayzah feat Mafikizolo - Sendekera

Image
The much awaited collaboration is finally out. The MTM boss Jah Prayzah has been on a roll since he released Jerusarema in 2015, everything he touches is turning into gold, he is undoubtedly the biggest artist in Zimbabwe at the moment. Jah is currently on a mission to dominate Africa and the best way to do so is through collaborations with various artists from the areas/regions he wants to reach. Last year he collaborated with Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz and that was quite a successful collaboration, now he has joined forces with South African iconic duo Mafikizolo and if it becomes as popular as Watora Mari,  Southern Africa will be done and dusted. Have been listening to the track for some hours now and I can safely share my views and thoughts on the track. The track was produced by super producer Dj Maphorisa, the same guy who was behind last year's MAMA best collaboration Soweto Baby and Drake's mega hit One Dance . Dj Maphorisa carried on with the good work

Album Review: Andy Muridzo - Tichambotenderera

Image
Andy Muridzo had an exceptional 2016, his album Ngarizhambe was a major success mainly due to the massive hits Dherira and Dhafu Dhunda . At the beginning of the year amidst the Bev scandal he was signed to Millitary Touch Movement Record Label headed by superstar and "former" Andy Muridzo competitor Jah Prayzah. With that development I was very eager to see how he will develop going further and fortunately that did not prove to be a long wait because a new album was already in the last phases of production. The album was finally released on the 22nd of March. Have now listened to the album enough to share my views and thoughts. The track contains 13 tracks and will be doing a track by track review as usual below. 1. Memo The first track on the album reassures you that the albums is going to be dominated with the usual contemporary traditional sound we expect from Andy Muridzo. The instrumental is structured in a standard way and is quite similar to Tichamboten
