Track Review: Plaxedes Wenyika - Now I Know

If you a 90's kid like me who witnessed the birth, growth and currently the fruits of the Urban Grooves movement era then you probably sang along to a Plaxedes Wenyika song. She had that soulful irresistible  sound, her music serenaded and stuck on you. She released classics such as Tisaparadzane, Wadarireiko, Pasina Iwe, Hapana,  Shamwari...etc. For a quick in-depth bio on her visit: Plaxedes Wenyika on Pindula. She then went quite for some time now but I'm glad that she is back in the music business, like making music and not being a radio presenter. Have been listening to Now I Know for some time now and I am ready to share my thoughts and views on the track.

She engaged the services of legendary producer McDonald "MacDee" Chidavaenzi on this track and that was a superb decision. MacDee is fantastic on the keyboard and it's the perfect instrument for this type of sound. The keyboard work is heavenly, it complements the vocals perfectly. The overall track follows a grand, classical sort of structure and it works. Great work on production by MacDee.

The journey to find one's soulmate is a tough one, in many cases it leads to a lot of heartaches, pain and tears. You will be trying everything to have that forever love but it just seems to be not for you. You end up thinking that you do not deserve such love, but then after some time the perfect partner will walk into your life and then you will realize that there was nothing wrong with you after all, it was just a matter of time.

Plaxedes nailed the vocals, she still has that soulful sound that endeared her with many Zimbos. She is not about hitting the highest pitches but she is about the emotion and in my opinion emotion trumps high pitches any day. It's like she has never gone quiet, one might say.

In overall this is a very lovely jam, I don't mind listening to it over and over again. Its smooth, soulful, well made and well sung. Hope she goes on to give us an album, such a refined sound is quite scarce these days.
