Track Review: Jah Prayzah feat Nutty O, Tahle, ExQ & Andy Muridzo - Chekeche (MTM Anthem)

Image
The news of Jah Prayzah's record label Military Touch Movement caused quite a buzz these past couple of days. There was a lot of excitement and expectation as Zimbos received the news. When the biggest artist on the local scene starts a label, the masses are definitely gonna take notice. On top of the announcement, a number of high profile artists have also been signed to the label, namely, Andy Muridzo ( uhmm uhmm interesting signing ), ExQ and Nutty O just to mention a few. After hearing the news, we were all looking forward to the music, something that they knew so they have released their first track which is the MTM Athem titled, Chekeche . Today will be giving my views and thoughts on the the new Military Touch Movement Anthem. The track was produced by Dj Tamuka who I believe is the best when it comes to Afro Beat in Zimbabwe. He did not disappoint on this track, he delivered a good instrumental, the arrangement is standard. All in all the production is done well.

Mokoomba - Mokole

My love for Mokoomba is no secret. I cannot get enough of their brilliance. Their live performances are just the best in Zim no doubt about that. So this year they are releasing a new album and i'm very excited about that. Hope there will be physical copies available because I will be buying one. Last year they signed to a German record label Outhere Records and they will be in charge of the production of the album. They have now released the first single to the album titled Mokole  and today I will be giving my first reactions and thoughts on the single. Ok so first this Luyando album is going to be an Acoustic album and that means the tracks are created primarily by instruments that produce sound through acoustic means rather than electrical means. Instruments such as, hosho, acoustic guitars, African drums, mbira, marimba, congas...etc Now to the single, the instrumental is sounding very good. The instruments are arranged very well, the banjo like guitar strum lead is

Track Review: Tamy ft Takura & Dobba Don - Beautiful (Ndozvandiri)

Image
Tamy had a superb debut year last year. Her album The 18th Rollercoaster was received very well and it introduced her to the majority of Zimbos. The two leading tracks Ndibereke & Sango were favourites of many me included, in a way I could say the tracks were too mature for someone of Tamy's age. The superb 2016 for Tamy had me including her among the 10 artists to watch out for in 2017. A couple of week into the new I heard she was going to release a track earlier than I expected and you can imagine my joy. Now the track is here and will be sharing my thoughts and views on the track. From the EDM inspired synth progression intro one will know the track will be on a modern pop kind of sound. Such a sound is becoming popular with local artists, Trevor Dongo on  Shoko Rerudo and Dj Ace Tuner ft Paul Martin on  Made For Love  followed a similar sound . The good thing about such a style is that it makes the track catchy and on the downside you will feel as if you have h

Track Review: Varaidzo - Wakapenga

Image
RnB music is mostly dominated by male artists on the local scene and when a female artist enters the frame or release a track, that is when you realize how awesome it is hearing a strong female voice on lovely RnB instrumental. Varaidzo has a superb voice, she mesmerized Zimbos on the track Ndoita Manyemwe which came out a couple of years back but then she kind of went quiet after that. I don't know if it was because of her varsity commitments or maybe the lyrics had dried out....only she can tell us why. She has now released a new jam and will be giving my views and thoughts on the track. Russo was in charge of the instrumental and he did a commendable job. The keyboard work is done well and for songs like this one, the keyboard is what makes the track. The bass was also structured quite well, it gives the track a modern RnB feel. Overall production is done well. This track is about praising your partner on how special they make you feel. Its about saying to them you are t

Track Review: Maggikal & Shinsoman - Good Loving

Image
Zim Dancehall keeps reigning despite a number of people complaining about its themes and other various reasons they may have to discredit it. Also the number of dancehall artists is now very very large and it will give you a headache trying to keep up with all of them so many ( me included ), have resorted to just following certain artists they have grown fond of. Due to the sheer amount of tracks released in the genre, I rarely do dancehall reviews for single tracks except if that track convinces me to do so and that is very rare. A couple of days days back whilst browsing soundcloud, came across this collaboration between Maggikal & Shinsoman and it did convince me to do a review. Maggikal is like a second tier artist in the dancehall genre, he is very talented and has his fair number of fans but he is not yet in the same bracket as artists like; Killer T, Soul Jah Luv, Winky D, Freeman, Seh Calaz. He also delivered a commendable album last year so he is on my watch-list.  S

10 Albums I'm Looking Forward To In 2017

Image
Last year there were a lot of albums released some were awesome some not so awesome and this year will be no different. However among all the albums that are going to be released there are a few that I am looking forward to the most and thoey are the ones I will be sharing with you today. Mind you for some of the albums, I do not know their titles as of yet and if you have such knowledge help a brother out in the comments section. Here we go: 1. Mokoomba - Luyando I'm a huge fan of this band, If you ask me they are the best band and live performers in the whole of Zimbabwe. Their last album was Rising Tide in 2012 ...ya 2012!!!!. The album slowly grew on me. Their music needs time for one to fully appreciate it and once I understood their music everything changed. Despite not really getting much support on the local scene Rising Tide made a mark on the continental and International scene. Luyando already has a lot of publications buzzing, including this one. A lot of expe

Track Review: Ulethu & Skaiva - Another Chance

Image
House music is slowly making its strides to the top of local music scene and one of the guys pushing the sound forward is Bulawayo based Skaiva. On this track he collaborated with rising songbird Ulethu who gave us the track Huya last year. Personally i'm a big fan of house music, it is my go to party music so when I heard that one of Zim's finest producers has collaborated with one fast rising songbird I immediately got to listening. Unfortunately the song came out when I was on holiday so could not post my review then but now am back and its time to share my views and thought on the track. Skaiva was in charge of the production here and he did a fabulous job, Love the way he arranged the instrumental, it can stand its own against the best from mzansi. Skaiva is one of my favourite local house producers and on this jam he just showed that he may as well be the best in the country. Love the rise from 2:50 -3:20, its superb. The track ended abruptly and I feel they cou

10 Artists To Look Out For In 2017

Image
Its the start of the year and its that time I give you the ten artists I feel you should watch out for in 2017. Made such a list for 2016 and some artists did well as I expected and some not as much, check out the list for 2016 ( Artists To Look Out For In 2016 ). This list does not contain those already established artists like Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Fungisai, Freeman, Cindy Munyavi...etc but it contains those artists that are yet to be household names. So judging from their performances in 2016 below are the ten artists I feel Zimbos should look out for in 2017. 1. Bryan Kadengu Included him in the list for 2016 and he had quite a good year but he did not reach the level I felt he could have reached. His track Heavy Machine was a big hit last year and it was enough to keep him relevant for the whole year but I expected more tracks. Heavy Machine was a big departure from his usual Afro Soul kind of sound and i'm very anxious to know which route he will take from now
