The Best Shows to Air on ZTV.

Image
ZTV is not synonymous with anything good these days, or it has not been for more than a decade. Currently have no idea of the last time I sat down to watch ZTV, with the internet making news widely available there is really no need to watch ZTV. Regardless of that there was a period where I really enjoyed watching ZTV and over the years believe it or not there have been some really good material and today will be giving you my best shows on ZTV. So ya here we go:  7) Cobra There are many dramas that came from Zim but to me Cobra was intense, it always kept me on the edge. This boxing drama was the closest to an action series that we had whilst growing up. Created by Award Winning  writer Enoch Chihombori who was also responsible fro Gringo. 6) Amakorokoza This show showcased the best Bulawayo had to offer, loved this show. It was fun, well made and quite engaging. This drama came at a time when Amakhosi Theater Productions was at it peak and that showed in the brilli

Video & TrackReview: Takura - Zino Irema

Image
Takura the other half of Soul Afrika is about to drop a solo project and he is hyping his upcoming project very well. This new track serves as an excellent insight in terms of what to expect from his upcoming project.  Zino Irema was released beginning of the month, heard the track on ZiFm Stereo and liked the track but it did not really get my attention. Am sort of fed up with trap music, so sometimes I will quickly move on without giving that track enough attention, except when i'm in a party mood. Despite the track getting a lot of love on radio it had not won me over....then the visuals dropped !!! and everything changed. Videos are a great way to reach a wider audience and certain local artists are finally getting or coming to terms with that principle. Takura is definitely one artist who has grasped that principle. The visuals for Zino Irema are excellent. I love it when artists use the countries natural features, buildings and streets to their advantage. We have

Janet Manyowa ft Minister Michael Mahendere - Kune Muponesi (Official Video)

Image
Mrs Janet Manyowa had the best Gospel album for 2015, King Of Glory ( King Of Glory Album Review  ). Also included her among the top ten artists to look out for in 2016 ( Ten Local Artists To Look Out For In 2016 ). The Album made me a big fan of her, even now a year after the album was released it's still sounding awesome as the first day. When gospel music is based on an actual bible verses it tends to last and stick longer than when its just generalized, because well the word is the gospel. ( King Of Glory was based on Psalms 24 ). So when I heard Mrs Janet was releasing a video was very excited, given how I loved her album and also how good her last video was, I was anxiously waiting for it to drop. Its finally here and I have to say I was not dissapointed. The video is clean and straight to the point. Even for someone who cannot understand shona he/she can comprehend the theme of the track, the story-line is just very well done. Its well directed and the quality is very v

Track Review : Karizma : Shisha Pipe

Image
Karizma has finally  released his first track of 2016. He has been teasing us with studio snippets from his upcoming No Guts No Glory volume 3 mixtape for some time now. With this new single we get to familiarize ourselves with whats coming. Hip Hop had a strong start to 2016 with Jnr Brown and Cal_Vin dominating the headlines but now it's sliding back into the background. There are no more top tracks to spruce up or maintain the hype. Will Karizma get the attention back to Hip Hop?? lets see how the track fares. Shisha Pipe was produced by Young Nash and he did a superb job. The instrumental is sounding very very good, love the dreamy laid back vibe of the beat. Young Nash was concentrating more on house music for the past couple of months and its great to see him back on the hip hop tip. He definitely hasn't lost his touch. The track in overall is quite audible, its sounding good and balanced . Good work on the production. Shisha Pipe is a party, get high kind of

Track Review: Trevor Dongo - Taking My Time

Image
The King of RnB is back with a new jam. He last released Short Of Words/Mashoko Apera a couple of months back ant the track was received well by Zimbos and managed to get commendable airplay. Trevor is a proven hit maker so when he releases a track his fans are not that anxious, I do not remember a time he gave us a bad track, even when he just features, he is that good. So how does Taking My Time fare? The track was produced by Big Tingx Record Boss Lazzie T , who also produced Mashoko Apera . Like the last track Lazzie did a great job on this track. A simple and nice groovy kick arrangement. For a track such as this you need a instrumental that complements the lyrics well and Lazzie did just that. In overall the track is sounding good. Also why is Trevor no longer working with MacDee? Taking My Time is about saving yourself for that special person in your life. Nowadays many relationships are rushed, people don't have time to know each other. This track is about taki

5 Comical Tracks From Zim

Image
Music exists to entertain people. Sometimes music is there to offer motivation and support, sometimes it helps to explain those feelings that you fail to correctly describe. Music has a lot of uses but above all its supposed to entertain people.  Today will be talking about those tracks that took entertainment to another new level, those tracks that made your jaw drop the first time you listened to them, those track where the creativity is just off the chains. The tracks may even have a serious or deep meaning/theme but the way they are structured just makes you laugh every-time you listen to that track. Below are five track that I feel fit that description: Sniper Storm - Kubhinya This is the track that introduced Sniper Storm to Zimbabwe. Its a well made track, its structured very well and the choice of words is just amazing. Kubhinya  speaks against  domestic violence. Sniper is urging guys to be gentle and understanding and not resort to force and violence to ge

Zambezi News is back

Image
Zambezi News is back. yessssssssssss. Missed these guys, Mandape Mandape, Jerome Weathers, Kudzaishe Myshayahembe, Kephas Josephats, Widzo Systematics and the Minister of Impending Projects .... There are many comedians in Zim but these guys are my favourite, they may not be the most popular or the most shared on social media platforms, their humor is not for everyone but to me these guys are the best. After some time touring the world and promoting their brand they are back with their 3rd season. The correspondents are on fire. Watch and Enjoy After watching the first episode, I'm happy they are back and they haven't lost their touch. What are your thoughts on the episode?? Proud_Zimbo

Songs That Made My Childhood

Image
Music has been part of my life from childhood. It has shaped how I see or view the world. Music is one of the best triggers for memories and hearing a certain song on the radio or online leaves my mind flooding with some wonderful memories. As a 90's child I have managed to witness some of the most amazing classics Zim has to offer. Managed to grow up during the period where ZTV was still good and shows such as Ezomgido Afro Beat and Coke On The Beat were the top music shows on TV. Back them there was no MTV, Trace or Channel O if one wanted to hear music the aforementioned shows is were one would get he latest and most happening tracks. Firstly will define childhood as the period from birth to when I completed my grade 7 education, in (2002) Below are some of the 10 tracks that made my childhood: 1) Extra Large - Kushamula Newe At the early days of the Urban Grooves Movement these guys quickly rose to the top and were very influential. They have a lot of tracks that

Track Review: Prophecy ft Kuda Chamisa & Baba Tencen - Kumusha

Image
Prophecy is one of the best Christian rappers in Zimbabwe. Last year he gave us the splendid jam Hatiko Ikoko , which received quite a lot of airplay and was a favourite of a number of Zimbos. He has now opened his 2016 account with Kumusha . The lineup on this track is just an attention grabber by itself. So how does the track fare??? The instrumental on this jam is fantastic. Love the sungura influence here. The way they fused the sungura guitar work and the hip hop bumpy synth is superb. This may be the best hip hop instrumental I have heard this year. Love the whiplash sound they used to mask the snare. The Dzoka Uyamwe samples and the guitar work are just out of this world. Splendid work on the production. The overall production is awesome everything is sounding as it should Kumusha (Ekhaya) is for those Zimbos who have gone out of the country in search of a better life for their families. Prophecy is advising them that when all seems to be failing they can always come

Get Personal With Mokoomba

Image
Mokoomba were recently interviewed by Heather Maxwell for her Music Time in Africa program for Voice Of America. The Band also performed some tracks from their upcoming album. Loved their Njoka acoustic perfomance on the interview. Am a big fan of these guys and am spreading the word till many Zimbos know about them. Get cozy with the guys and enjoy as we wait for their upcoming Acoustic Album. Proud_Zimbo

So this past  Worker's Day weekend was filled with concerts and shows all over the capital. The Chris Martin was the biggest show however I couldn't manage to attend that due to work commitments the following day and also cash constrains played a part. So had planned a soccer filled weeknd, supporting my dear Tottenham Hotspur FC , then I came across this new festival, The Harare International Food and Music Festival and learnt of the Jazz night which was scheduled on Saturday night. The lineup won me over,  the fantastic Mokoomba, Dr Oliver Mtukudzi and others.....!!!. Informed my team team "Zvikuhle" of the show and a few showed interest, well those who failed or were lazy to attend the Chris Martin Concert. Now because of the cash crisis at the Banks some were failing to get access to cash so it was looking quite dull. However in the late afternoon I picked up my friend and we just drove towards town. We decided to stop by the Borrowdale Racecourse to try and
