Gemma Griffiths Pamwe EP Review

Image
Gemma has had quite an interesting journey. She has come far from the Musarove Big man cover days into being a respected vocalist all over Zim. She is a testament of where the right collaborations will take you, most know her from MuGarden the track that catapulted her to the top and earned her the female Artist of the year nomination.  Since then she has embraced working with a lot of local artists, it has sort of become her brand and she is excelling at that. This year she has featured on quite a number of projects and has also delivered her own tracks. One of her big tracks is Tirangarirei a track she showed she can also do dancehall music. The next single was the super lovely Ndinewe which is part of this EP. Just as her various collaborations were gaining traction she then released her EP, got my copy and today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts.  As usual will be doing a track by track review.  1 Only You This first track sets the tone perfectly, this sound that Gemma

Sulumani Chimbetu - Entanglement Album Review

Image
This album was waaaay overdue, if it wasn't for the many personal scandals in Sulu's life we probably would have got this two years back. Dendera fans all over were complaining that the Chimbetus were letting them down and now in a space of a month we have got two projects from the Chimbetus, first was Urgent Matter by Allan "Professor" Chimbetu and now Entanglement by Sulumani "Sulu" Chimbetu. Will be reviewing the projects simultaneously to see who delivered the better project.  In this review will however be concentrating on Entanglement. Sulu's last album took was more political and because of that it faced some form of censorship as us the case in Zim. The tracks on that album were not instant hits despite the censorship but as time went by the tracks started to grown on me and started appreciating the album more.  On this album he switched back from the political route and went back to his usual stuff. Given the title its seems he will be singing a

Allan Chimbetu - Urgent Matter Album Review

Image
Many Dendera fans were complaining about the Dendera royal family the Chimbetus on letting them down when it comes to new music. I'm definitely one of those fans. It has been long without a new full length project from the Chimbetu family.  Allan the brother to legend Simon Chimbetu decided to change that as he dropped his Urgent Matter Album, his full length album in quite some time. Have got myself a copy of the album and today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts on the album.  So since I also got to know Sulumani Chimbetu was gonna release his album I waited to do the reviews side by side to see who delivered the better dendera project.   As usual will be doing a track by track review.  1 Hello (feat Desolo B)  This is Sungura mixed with rhumba, Sungura Rhumba you might call it. The first half of the track feels like a pure rhumba jam, it's only when the tempo is raised towards the end that one gets the Dendera elements. The track is about reassuring your partner

Freeman - Freeman & Friends Mixtape Review

Image
The HKD Boss always blesses us with a project every year, he rarely let's us down and his consistency in terms of quality & releases is one many artists can only dream of. This year is no exception despite the never-ending lockdown he has managed to get into the studio and make something for us.  This time around the project is bundled as a mixtape named Freeman and Friends. From the title you get to know he teamed with a couple of his friends in the arts industry more like what the late Mtukudzi did on the Abi Angu album. These days trying to differentiate between a mixtape, EP and album is difficult, quality wise and number of tracks no longer give a clear distinction between these formats. He has called this a mixtape and we'll take it as he named it without much analysis.  The mixtape has dropped and I rushed to get my copy and today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts on the project. As usual will be doing a track by track review: 1 Zii Zii (feat Mai Titi) M

Ishan - Bundu Pop Sounds From The Jungle Album Review

Image
Ishan introduced himself to the Zim masses wit the hit jam Kure featuring Ti Gonzi. The track dominated the airwaves and won over the hearts of many. He then followed that up with the remix for Kure which I enjoyed but received mixed reviews and the underated jam Shore. Given the success of Kure many questioned whether he was gonna sustain the hype or create another jam as good as Kure. With Kure Ishan brought a refreshing clean sound and will be interested to see whether he will carry on with that sound.  Leading up to this album he released the jam  Maidei/Peanut Butter , a track which I enjoy, and which many people are loving. As we got nearer to the album launch he then released another solid jam December featuring veteran rapper Gze, which is getting a lot of love and rotation on all urban radio stations. These two tracks also came with some solid visuals and both have that clean sound that Ishan is now known for.  So got my copy of the album, got to listening and today will b

Bryan Kadengu - Bibo Worldwide Album Review

Image
This year has been a difficult and different year for all of us, the never ending lockdown has created challenges which many have never imagined. It has in other ways afforded many the chance to relook at their lives and make necessary changes. To artists this lockdown has given them a quiet period in which they can explore their artistry to the fullest with the minimal of distractions. Bryan K seems to be one of those artists who has used this time to push his art. He has recently released his Bibo Worldwide album which I have managed to stream and today will be sharing with you my thoughts.  Given the title of the album you can clearly see that Bryan K has set his sights on the international market, I have taken the Worldwide to mean his music should be diverse and appeal to many people across the globe. Whether he has managed to see that we'll see at the end of the review.  As usual will be doing a track by track review. The album was released in two phases, Side A which has the

Jah Prayzah - Hokoyo Album Review

Image
This album was among the 10 Albums I have been looking forward to in 2020. Jah Prayzah took a sabbatical break last year, a move which I supported as it gave people time for his fans to really listen to his last album Chitubu. That also afforded him time to craft his next album without rushing himself in order to maintain the one album per year release schedule. The new album titled Hokoyo has been finally released and as expected it’s the most talked about thing in showbiz, JP is the most popular artist in Zim so such buzz is a given. Going into this new album have a couple of questions; 1. Was the sabbatical break helpful for him and his music??, 2. Is he going to develop his sound more from Chitubu and if so how is he going to do so?? And lastly 3. What role will this album will play in JP’s domination of Africa goal. Got myself a copy of the album and today will be sharing my thoughts on the album and also hopefully get answers to the above mentioned questions. As usual w

15 Beautiful Long Distance Relationship Tracks from Zim

Image
Love relationships are always a lot of work and if there happens to be some considerable distance between the two of you it’s even harder to keep the relationship afloat. Not all long distance relationships fail but most do, much is required from each partner to keep the relationship going. With the Corona pandemic forcing the country and world into lockdown this has undoubtedly affected those who had made plans to see each other. I’m not a love doctor who is going to try and give advice on how to do long distance relationships but what I can do is to help you with music that can help you in the situation you are in. Music sometimes goes deeper that what works can do, music does not only convey a message as in the lyrics but it can also convey a feeling, something which is hard to express in words. So today have gone through a lot of music genres in Zim and will share with you 20 tracks that can help you convey the message and feeling you want to convey to your partner. Hopefully th
