What Next for Zim Hip Hop??!

Image
Local Hip Hop has been the biggest winner of 2022 no doubt about that, the genre has grown in leaps and bounds. The reason why hip hop finally engaged into gear from my analysis is a combination of three things.  The amount of diverse talent that has come through is immense, we now have different variations and interpretations of the genre, Voltz has his own style, Jungle Loco has another sound, Bagga Weragga has another sound, Suhn has another sound, Luminous, Malcomm Mufunde all do different styles.  The majority of Zimbos are willing to give a different genre a chance since Sungura and Dancehall have all had periods of dominance before. Dancehall has sort of reached saturation stage, it needs to reinvent itself, Sungura is back in full force and in many areas its surpassing Hip Hop in popularity but despite that many still want to see what these young guys have to offer.  The connection the genre has with ama2k. To fully succeed, a genre has to connect to a generation, that generati

Winky D - Eureka Eureka Album Review

Image
Winky D is a legend, that is a fact. He has kept Zimbos dancing for years and is among the best live performers we have in the nation. For someone who has delivered hit after hit he has a loyal legion of fans that follow him and make noise about every move he makes. His last album Njema grew on me, however it did not get as much airplay as we are used to from a Winky D album, despite many loving its mature subject matter, the music was largely absent from the streets. On Njema you could feel Winky was up to something, a new sound and vibe, it was not there yet but he was moving in an interesting direction, personally was curious to see how he was going to develop that sound going forward. The reception from the masses however was not as explosive as compared to his previous projects and towards end of that year Winky released an EP on which he reverted back to his old style, a sign of failure or he just wanted to cater for fans of his past sound??!!  The announcement of this project go

Holy Ten - The Book Of Malachi Album Review

Image
Holy Ten is making sure you don't go long without new music. Was not very impressed with his past two projects, with Risky Life  I felt it was all hype and little substance, then Energy suffered from production issues. He has however made up for those lacklustre projects by the singles he releases in between, last year after the poor album he redeemed himself by his performances on the various singles he featured on especially Loss by Nicky Genius. This year after stirring some controversy on Twitter after the release of Winky D's Ibotso which he featured on, he announced his new album. Seems like a perfect time as he was trending. The album is now here and today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts on the project. The major question being has he finally made a solid project which you can listen to without skipping tracks and one which you will continue listening to after the hype dies down??!!.  As usual will be doing a track by track review of the album and then sha

Seh Calaz - Reggae Dzinorira Album Review

Image
Seh Calaz is undoubtedly a Dancehall icon, he played a vital part in ensuring Dancehall became a household name and biggest genre in the nation. He has played the villain part very very well, he is the antagonist many love to hate. His rise of going against Winky D who was deemed untouchable provided the perfect entry and then his beef with the most influential artist of the 2010's Soul Jah Love pushed local Dancehall to a level never unseen before. Seh Calaz loves being the antagonist and the release of this album was a showcase of that. Despite the popularity of Winky D, he chose to release the album on the sane night on a venue close by. The two artists attract different crowds and both shows were well attended but it got many talking.  Calaz is the best at reggae in Zim and he announced that this new album would be a reggae album and that got many excited. Add to that the fact that he decided to launch this album the sane day as Winky D, the excitement got even higher. Personal
