Diary Page 5 : Music I Listen to When Feeling Down 2

Image
Many a times we get into very stressful periods in our lives, everything seems to be crashing on you, a loved one falling ill, a loved one passing away, failing to get employment, having you employment contract being cancelled...etc and you will need something or somewhere to give you the courage to power on. If I get into such a situation first thing is getting on my knees and pray then after that I turn to music, not just any music, but that which sounds good and uplifting. Music is my go to drug. Today will be giving you 10 tracks that have helped me detox and hopefully they can do the same for you. The songs don't necessarily need to have a direct uplifting message or sometimes the message may not be as motivating or uplifting but the overall feel and vibe of the track will just help you relax and refresh. So lets get to the ten songs I will be sharing with you today. 1. Afrika Revenge - Shiyana Nami This is taken from the super awesome Qaya music album. This trac

Best Album From Zimbabwe Part 7 : Bands & Groups

Image
Welcome to the 7th edition of the Best Albums From Zimbabwe series and on this episode will be concentrating on Bands and Groups. On this series will not be concentrating on backing bands but those groups or bands whereby no one member takes all the attention or where the group is not named after one person. As usual will just mention 5 albums per episode. 1. Mokoomba - Rising Tide (2012) These guys are the moment unrivaled by any, they are simply in a class of their own. They are taking Afro Fusion to the world in a very big way, representing not only Zimbabwe but the whole of Africa. They are currently the most traveled band in Zimbabwe and the success of this album kick started their worldwide journey. The album contains jams such as Njoka , Nimukonda , Ndundule , Waleyle ...just to mentions a few. Buy the album:  Mokoomba Rising Tide 2. Illanga - Silver and Gold This was Illanga's second studio album, a follow up to their previous well received album Visions Foreto

Mixtape Review: Hillzy - Overdue The Love Mixtape

Image
Have been following Hillzy for some time now and he has been impressing with each song. It was not until the last half of 2017 that he started to get recognition on a wider scale in Zim. He also seems ready for the pressure and expectations that follow recognition as evidenced by the EP which was released at the time when many were starting to look for his music. Featuring on Stunner's Stray Bullet album also helped push him to the masses because we all know Stunner is a proven gateway to massive exposure. Have given myself some time to listen to his EP and today will be sharing my views and thoughts on the project. From the name one will know this is going to an overdose of love songs and it is. Its kinda funny or maybe a coincidence that when Takura has also released a love themed EP Hillzy went on to release a love themed mixtape also..uhmmmm. Hillzy however despite singing a lot of times he showed his rapping side on this mixtape. So as usual lets get to the track

10 Artists to Look Out For In 2018

Image
Every beginning of the year I give you 10 artists that I feel will make their marks on the local music scene that year. This year its no exception and today am sharing the ten I feel you should keep your eye on. The artists on this list are those who are not yet household names but the unknown and upcoming who have the potential to become household names.  1. Tammy She is growing and maturing with each year and it is showing in her music. I'm a huge fan of Tammy and that is probably the reason why she has featured on this list for quite some time now. Regardless once you listen to her music you will see why i'm such a big fan, listen to her last single Beautiful ( Ndozvandiri ) first. She is definitely one to watch out for in 2018. 2. Wenyasha Dancehall maybe the biggest genre right now but in terms of competition the gospel genre is up there if not the most competitive genre. There are many gospel artists vying for that breakthrough and Wenyasha is o

Top 5 Tracks: Illanga

Image
On the first episode of top 5 tracks for 2018 we'll be looking at one of the iconic groups to emerge on the local scene Illanga. Illanga is a ndebele word that means rising sun. The group was made up of an array of talented artists namely; Busi Ncube (vocals & percussion), Don Gumbo (bass guitar), Andy Brown (guitar & vocals), Chinx Chingaira (vocals), Keith Farquharson (keyboard), Gibson Nyoni (drums), Virgilio Ignacia and Adam Chisvo (percussion). The group was formed in 1986 but rose to prominence after guys like Chinx, Busi and Keith joined a few  years later and they went on to release two  well received albums; Silver & Gold and Visions Foretold. The group did not last long as artists like Andy Brown left to pursue solo careers. They however released a compilation of their best tracks of their rather short stint into one Greatest Hits compilation and that made my research easy for this episode.  5. Siyalonda This takes my fifth spot. I just love t

10 Albums I Am Looking Forward To in 2018

Image
Its the beginning of the year and as now has become tradition I will be sharing with you 10 Albums I am looking forward to the most throughout the year.  So without wasting much time lets get to the list: 1. ExQ - Tseu Tseu I was disappointed when this album failed to drop last year, it initially had a release date of August 2017 meaning the album was complete but for some reason it was never released, the politics of belonging to a record label maybe. Regardless of that, I'm pretty convinced that this album will drop the first half of 2018 and will be looking forward to it.  2. Janet Manyowa - Unnamed She dominated 2017 with only one song to her name, she topped the gospel charts on every radio station with her powerful jam Zadzisa and this year I hope she gives us something. She is arguably the biggest female artists in the country and if her new album is as good as her debut album she will be at the top for some time. She will also be hosting a gospel sh

Album Review: Mai Charamba - Voice Of Miriam

Image
This is a very late album review but its here and that's the most important thing. This album was released the same day with the Baba Charamba's album which led to many comparing the two offerings from husband and wife. Have been listening to both the albums over the past couple of months and I have to say the project from Mai Charamba is more solid, its the better one in my opinion. Will today be sharing with you my thoughts and views on the album Voice Of Miriam by Mai Charamba. She is definitely one of the iconic gospel artists in the country and this album further goes on to solidify her status as a legend in the industry. This album reminds me of her most successful album Daily Bread which was released back in 2011, her vocals are well mastered and the themes are well tackled and all in all the album is sounding very good. The tracks are both a mix of gospel and social commentary which help really bring out the motherly side of her. Below will be as usual doin
