Top 5 Tracks : James Chimombe

Image
It been long since I published a new top 5 tracks, will try to get back to my two week schedule release from now on. On this episode I will be talking about the iconic musician known as Mr Bindura by his fans, the late James Chimombe.  James Chimombe played an important role in establishing the local sound we are now proud of after the country attained its independence. His music fused various elements from different genres across the continent and he sprinkled some Jit all over his compositions. Despite fusing a lot of genres the keyboard and bass guitar were the most visible instruments in his compositions. He also formed a formidable working relationship with the overlooked Daram Karanga the guy who played the sax on all his songs, you cannot think about James Chimombe's music without also thinking about the lovely saxophone work. James Chimombe died in 1990 and was the first of many artists who succumbed to AIDS. Despite passing away at a very young age of 39 he left us wit

Album Review: Alick Macheso & Orchestra Mberikwazvo - Dzinosvitsa Kure

The legendary guitarist Alick Macheso or Ba Sharo as he is affectionately known has released his much anticipated 11th album Dzinosvitsa Kure. This album serves as a follow up to his last album Tsoka Dzerwendo ( Tsoka Dzerwendo Album Review ) which was released back in 2016. The Album has been gathering hype ever since it was announced he was working on a new album and the live show snippets where he was performing the new songs also helped give his fans a glimpse of what's to come.  Macheso reached his low point a couple of years back when he was embroiled in the Tafadzwa scandal and his music to a major hit. During that period he released what I believe is his worst album to date Kwatabva Mitunhu. Since then he has been trying to regain his maestro touch and many years later it seems he has finally found his touch. His last album Tsoka Dzerwendo was an average album, it was not what many expected, we all know he could do much much better. Fast forward two years from Tsok

Album Review: Freeman - Mukuru Wekambani

Image
Freeman is one of those very few or rare dancehall artists who concentrates on albums more than singles. These days he rarely releases singles, nearly every single he drops is part of a project except when he is featuring on someone's track. Undoubtedly he is one of the icons of Zim Dancehall with a a legion of fans.  His last album Top Striker failed was not that good a project, it failed to live up to the standards set by it's predecessor Magoma Ihobho but that has not stopped the HKD Boss from going back to the studio and create another project for us. The new album Mukuru Wekambani is now upon us and today will be sharing my views and thoughts on the album. Going into this album one thing that was very evident is the improvement by Freeman in terms of organizations and marketing. He did not go the Winky D or JP billboard way but the marketing was done well. They made commendable use of social media and ensured every Freeman Fan was aware of the incoming album.
