Trevor Dongo ft Shyman & Souljah Luv - African Queen (Official Video)

Image
The much awaited video of the hit jam  African Queen  is finally out. The video has a great quality and the directing is commendable. Not a video to win video of the year but a good video to watch nonetheless. The timing of the video is a bit questionable, personally l believe a video must be released when the song is still on top. This song spent a lot of weeks in the charts of all the top radio stations and that's the period the video must have been made and released, unlike now when the song has moved out of the charts. That's just how l think. Proud Zimbo

Album Review : Jah Prayzah - Jerusarema

Image
Jah Prayzah has released another album, whilst we still not yet done enjoying Kumbumura Mhute. This young Man wants to keep us dancing without ceasing. Kumbumura Mhute was well received and is still in much demand on radio and parties all over the country. The major question is that: Is the New album better or worse compared to last years Kumbumura Mhute?!?!?!? The launch was epic by the way. It has solidified his status as The Finest Zim Musician to emerge from the new generation of young musicians in Zim. There are a few young artists who can match up to Jah Prayzah's superstar status, artists such as Sulumani Chimbetu, Hope Masike, Winky D, Stunner, Mokoomba, Alexio Kawara and Sabastian Magacha have all defined themselves in their respective genres and have stood out for years as the best in those genres. However Jah Prayzah is currently the best, not only among the new generation of artists but even with elderly artists included. Before l get carried away, lets dive

Eletronic Music: Deep House DJ's,Mixes and Songs in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is a dancehall dominated country. Dancehall has become much more than just a genre but its now the most popular culture in Zimbabwe, every corner of the country you visit one will hear Zim Dancehall songs being played. Personally am a big house fan, Deep House to be exact, and this pains me that my favourite type of music is being pushed away and well its hard to find a club that plays Deep House.  House DJ's and producers in Zim find it hard to get enough attention and airplay on radio . Deep Deep house is more of underground and its producers and DJ's are largely unknown and less spoken about in the media. Many people are more concerned with commercial house, the likes of DJ Stavo , Uhuru, Heavy K, DJ Bucks,  and less on Deep House & Tribal Dj's such as Black Coffee, Culoe De Song, Black Motion, Ralf Gum, Mobi Dixon, Reverb 7, Vinny Da Vinci... Am happy that the Deep House Movement is making positive strides on top Urban Radio Stations. Shows such as

Soul Afrika - Take You

Image
Soul Afrika is a group consisting of two brothers Takura and Tatenda. They have blessed us with hits such as Zvinhu , Pauri ft Tererai and Newe ft Tehn Diamond. Their tracks have been well received by many Zimbabweans , they offer a refreshing flavour of Afro-fused RnB. This single Take You is a follow up of the hit Newe which is currently rocking radio and dominating music charts on all the top urban radio stations. This new track was released on Africa Day. Take You is a  slow tempo RnB track, the song is about taking you partner and showing her to the world. Its about when one has finally found the right partner after years of searching, they now want to travel and show the whole world that they have found their true love.  The vocals are just awesome, audible and serenading. The instrumental is well made and the song in overall is well made, respect must be given to Kenako Records.. A perfect follow up to Newe . Personally this song is their best song for 2015. A

Dice - Who Am I Ft Tricky J & D Kameya

Image
Dice is back on the music scene with this new track  Who Am I . We last heard of her on the track Chimoko (Side to Side ) ft Roki in the early 2000's. On Who am I  she features Tambisa Dako hit-maker Tricky J and D Kameya. The track is gangsta. Its more of an introduction/entrance track by Dice to the Hip Hop scene. The instrumental seconds the gangsta theme, with a beat reminiscent of the Still Dre old skool hip hop days. Its refreshing compared to the hard hitting, bass filled hip hop beats flooding the market.  Don't know who produced the beat but they did a great job. Dice gave a decent flow, she went for an Eve kind of flow rather than trying to follow the bandwagon of Nicki Minaj/Iggy type of flows. D Kameya did his best, however his verse is the weakest of the track, much work is still needed from the lad. Tricky J had the best of entrances, the beast part is really dope. His flow was good, he proved he can be a force to reckon with in the near future. The v

Vito - Iwewe

Image
Vito is a supertalented RnB singer. This song Iwewe is just a  masterpiece. Heard this song a couple of months back on Zifm Stereo and instantly fell in love with it, since then l was looking for it....pheeew finally found it and something as good must be shared to the world. This is a love song, a great one. The song is soulful and smooth. Its about not wanting to be away from your love. The track has a laid back old school RnB feel to it. Looking forward to many great tunes from the Lad, hope he doesn't turn out to be a one hit wonder. Listen and Enjoy:   This song somehow reminds me of the early 2000's hit  Wadiwa  by Trinity Proud_Zimbo

Simba Tagz - No Pressure

Image
This is a new offering by Simba Tagz titled No Pressure.  The song was produced by Nigerian celebrated producer Sarz, the producer has worked with many big Nigerian musicians such as Wizkid and Burna Boy. The instrumental as you would expect from such a producer is just superb. Tagz is gaining a reputation of nailing it on every song he features, whether it be a verse or chorus he always delivers. This song is no exception he nailed it. The mixing and mastering is on point, the track is great on the ear and will get you dancing before you even finish listening. The vocals are smooth and on point. Tagz is making strong moves to break into the continental scene and this song will provide a sound foundation for that. Also the track will fare much better than the Please Don't Leave Me remix with Ice Prince. Proud_Zimbo

The Monkey Nuts - Final Countdown (From the Boombap Idiophonics LP)

Image
These guys test the limit of music. Their music is different, like seriously different to the music you hear on a day to day basis. It takes a certain amount of patience to listen to their music. Their music is however enchanting, one of those sounds you will listen to till the end but in your head you'll be like "what kind of music is this??!!" So ya one can say their music is intriguing, always makes you wanna know how the song ends. This is a track from their current LP Boombap Idiophonics ( How did they come out with that name??!! ) titled Final Countdown . Its a funky Hip Hop track. Am loving this single, the message and instrumental all of it. The is their first album under their Music label BBE, it is now available on all leading online music distribution and selling sites. Buy and be transported to a Monkey Nuts music world. Watch and Enjoy Proud_Zimbo

Netsayi and Black Pressure - Vakorinte XIII

Image
Came across this performance as I was browsing through YouTube a couple of months back. Today am in a mbira fusion music mood, thanks to Because of You by Mbira Queen Hope Masike. This is a lovely lovely performance by Netsayi and Black Pressure, live in the Green Space. Netsayi and Black Pressure are largely unknown in Zimbabwe, personally I knew about her courtesy of the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA). HIFA is widely diverse in its artists selection and we get to know about many artists at the festival. Zimbabwe has a vast and rich pool music and artists. Many concentrate on the popular few and on most cases are shocked when some artists say  they are Zimbabwean. If one chooses to widen their artist/genre base they will be shocked by the amount of talent Zimbabwe has to offer. This performance is just lovely. Enjoy Proud_Zimbo

Hope Masike - Because Of You (Official Video)

Image
This is another Carl Joshua Ncube directed video. It was done courtesy of Zimbabwe Animated series movement which is supported by the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe. They gave us Tehn Diamond's The Year Before Rap video and this time they released a video for Hope Masike's Because of You . Zimbabwe Animated Series is bringing a new flavour to music videos in the country. We are used and tired of watching plain videos, this movement is bringing the much needed creativity to the video making industry.  This video is quite creative, it visualizes the essence of Hope Masike's music. Her music is traditional and in most instances enchanting, the video shows just that. Its a video that fascinates you and it will be a favourite for those who prefer artistic brilliance to flashy/ostentatious videos like the ones which flood the top music channels on TV. About the song, well Hope is seriously talented and this track just attests to that. Its a beautiful mbira afro-fusion song.

Review : Hebron Mash - Oh Jah (Official Video)

Image
Hebron Mash is a roots reggae artist, and this lovely track Oh Jah is the current offering he gave us. The song was released in Feb, came across it today. Personally am a big fan of Reggae and this song hits the right chords for me. The instrumental is heavenly, delightful......just brilliant. The vocals are on point and lyrics meaningful. The whole arrangement of the song is superb. Respect must be given to Iconic and Legendary producer Clive Monomukundu for overseeing this production. Hebron Mash is steadily becoming a force to reckon with in the Reggae scene. Many may not be familiar with his music yet but trust me, and listen to this track...he is definitely going to be big. In this track Hebron Mash is praising the Lord for the World that he has given us, and because he is Good to us. This is a beautiful song that needs to be given enough attention and airplay. We need more songs such as this Mr Hebron, and album in fact. Watch and be blown away. brilliant Song and Vid

Tehn Diamond - The Year Before Rap (Official Video)

Image
Tehn diamond is definitely a genius behind the mic. This song is not new, but its one of his finest song to date. Personally am a fan of this song. This song answers all those who want to know why Tehn is respected and loved in the music sector. The song in short depicts Tehn's journey from nothing to a respected rapper. The video is quite creative, and fits the mood of the song. The instrumental is awesome, enchanting..it evokes emotions. The video is directed by Stand Up comedy star Carl Joshua Ncube as part of the Zimbabwe Animated series supported by Culture Fund of Zimbabwe. Its great video, its different from other videos we are used to seeing. Watch and Enjoy Proud_Zimbo

Chashe - Love Me Not

Image
This is a new offering by Chashe titled Love Me Not . The song is a follow up to another beautiful song Like Fire . The song is a love song, and is beautifully produced.  Chashe was recently in Zimbabwe where she performed at the Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA). She was largely unknown when she released Dhi the song that introduced her to Zimbabwe. This song Zvekupenga ft Tinashe Makura was greatly received and became an instant classic.  This song is about that awkward moment when you need to define whether you are friends or are dating. This is when two people who started as friends now have feelings for each other and they are both reluctant to make the next move. One will not be sure if the other person feels the same way as they do, that will be holding them back from making the next move but at the same time does not want to leave that person. Chashe showcases her great vocals and songwriting prowess on this track. She is just super talented and serious

To All the Mothers In Zim and World Over

Image
Mothers are very special people. A mothers stands by you for the rest of your life  regardless of what you do a mother always loves you. There is definitely nothing like mothers love. I take this moment to thank all the mothers out for being there and showering us with you unconditional love and support.  To those who are cracking up their skulls on what to do for their mothers for their mothers this mothers day, do not look much into material things but give your mother a reason to be proud of being your mother. One can never repay his/her mothers on all she has done for you. Show her love, support her.......every mother is happy when her child is successful & happy. The pride she feels when you graduate from school, get married, have children, have a successful career means more to her than anything you can ever buy for her. However on this mothers day, just tell her she is special.  To those who have lost their mothers, this is not a day to be sad and sulk but y

Stunner ft Carlos Green - Vane Mari (Official Video)

Image
Stunner has released a great video to this superb song. I love the song, it has a traditional, pfonda flavour mixed with some heavy punchlines. Stunner is definitely an artist who keeps reinventing himself and manages to keep himself relevant through the changing entertainment scene. My favourite lines from the song: " Havaite profit ma NGO Varikuvhaira neChannel O  isu tave pa HBO marecords aya kune avo vasingazive  zita rangu ndiStunner ndini Mdara Dziva" Proud_Zimbo

Electronic Dance Music in Zimbabwe

Image
Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is one of the most popular genres in music today. It covers sub-genres such as Trance, Progressive House, Techno, Dub-step, Trap, Bigroom House, Drum & Bass just to mention a few. This genre of music is widely played on the local radio stations but is less followed by the locals as many view it as European or White folks music. This may be somehow true as most of the genres originate from Europe and nearly all of the big names (Calvin Harris, Tiesto, Armin Van Burren, Martin Garrix, Skrillex, Zomboy, DvBBs, Hardwell, Oliver Heldens, Tchami...etc) come from Europe.  EDM fever is spreading all over the world and countries such as South Africa have accepted the culture and music. South Africa has the biggest House Community in Africa. Zimbabwe is also catching up to the EDM fever with Dj's/Producers such as Jason Le Roux, Zyon Black, Reverb 7, Rob Macson, Samwell Cosmic, Chris Taylor, Nic Fourie... pushing for the popularity of the sound.

ZionTaks Medley (Ladies Edition) Cindy Munyavi,Pauline,Ninja Lipsy,Matt...

Image
Am not that much crazy about medleys for dancehall riddims. This particular medley caught my eye, mostly because some of the artists on the list are not dancehall artists so it made me curious. The medley is produced expertly comparing to other medley videos out there. The ladies also did a great job. Its worth watching; Zim Ladies rocking it. Proud_Zimbo

Kapital K - Hold Your Head (Dirty)

Kapital K is undoubtedly one talented rapper. He has won the best diaspora hip hop artist for a couple of times. This is his latest offering Hold Your Head , and he continues to showcase his rapping abilities. The track is dope, this is some serious hip hop stuff. Kapital K delivered standard bars, the kind of bars that can make any hip hop fan smile and bump his/her head. The instrumental is great and fits the song, its greatly mixed and mastered. He is definitely pushing for that break on the continental hip hop scene and this track will garner him some much needed reviews and street cred.  Download The Song :  Hold Your Head (DataFile Host) Proud_Zimbo
