Movies in Zimbabwe
Was browsing through YouTube today and l came across a number of old Zim Movies that l loved, movies that had all Zimbos glued to their TV screens. As a 90's kid l grew up just in time to witness the golden movie making generation in its last years. I enjoyed movies such as Neria, Everyone's Child (Video Below), Jit and the game changer Yellow Card. These few movies were so good that nearly all of the people who saw them still remember the scenes, story-lines, actors and for some the dialogues. However as the economic conditions worsened from around 2002, the quality of movies deteriorated with the economy, which was understandable.
Now that the economy has stabilized (as compared to 2002-2008), only a few commendable movies have came out ( Lobola & Gringo The Troublemaker). Music videos have greatly improved but the movie side of the industry is still mainly dormant,(the two may not be directly connected but quality standards must be representative for both sides). Zimbos miss watching good local movies, the premiere of Gringo caused quite a buzz on the local scene. We need more movies like that. Some may say the producers of yesteryear blockbusters have all left the country but with such a skilled and educated population surely there are some capable of producing and directing great movies.
What do we need to do to revive the local movie industry??? The music industry is now operating well, a person can make a decent living from music, can the movie industry perform the same???
Comment with you recommendations on how to revive the industry.
Watch and Enjoy Everyone's Child, one of the golden days classic.
