EP Review : Courtney Antipas - Back To Basics EP

With Easter almost upon us was expecting an influx on Gospel tracks but it was looking a bit gloom and when it seemed nothing was gonna come out Courtney Antipas gave us some blessings with the Back To Basics EP. Courtney is the finest Christian Rapper in the country and most probably Africa as a whole, his message is always on point and in terms of rapping ability, he can match the best secular rappers out there.

For Christians like me, Easter is a very special holiday. Jesus Christ died for us and because of that we no longer are measured or weighed according to the law but we now live by Grace. Romans 10 v 4. Despite all our shortcomings as humans we now have the chance to be saved and be righteous before the Lord through Jesus Christ.

So back to the music, how does the EP fare??

The EP consists of 5 tracks, and below is a track by track review:

1) Alpha and Omega ft Ruyonga
The instrumental has a certain roughness to it that makes the track daring. Its a bit different from many hip hop instrumentals we hear today...it was weird on the first listen but it grew on me and after a couple of listens I found myself bumping my head to it. On the track the guys are saying Jehovah is the Alpha and Omega, He is everything we need, anything we need He has it. His grace and favour on us is the best thing we can have hence we should not spent our time chasing material stuff. Courtney did a great job on his verse and the hook. Ruyonga was on fire on the second verse, his poet kind of rapping style gave the track a unique flavour which am loving. Great collaboration.

2) Can You See Us
Reviewed this track last month when it was released. Check the review here : Can You See Us {Track Review}

3) End Goal ft Bon-a-fide
This is my favourite track on the EP. The instrumental caught my attention before the vocals kicked in. The production is on point on this track, its well mixed and mastered....everything is sounding as it must. This track is urging people to seek everlasting life that is Jesus Christ. It urges Christians to focus on the end goal rather than the vanities of life. Its a reminder for all Christians to know their purpose on this earth. The verses and hook are on point. Courtney was in slaying form, loved his first verse. Bon-a-fide also did a superb job on the second verse. Love their combination and understanding. Great track

4) Overtime
If you doubt why many say Courtney is the best, this song is a definitely must listen. Its urging people to work. Despite all the faith we have we need to put in the work. Its simple as that, Faith without works is dead. Courtney is saying he is always on the grind and he keeps pushing till he makes it. The instrumental is dope and the song has a great overall feel. Courtney killed this track, his rap game was just amazing here.

5) Power
This is about the power of the blood of Jesus Christ. Through His blood we are saved from bondages, limitations and curses. Powerful track. The instrumental is modern and sounding quite good. The flute like sound gave the song a a nice feel. Courtney put in a great performance on the verses and hook. Powerful track..

Listen to the EP:

In overall this is a good and timely EP. We must all get Back To the Basics as written in the Bible and not try to complicate and dilute Christianity. Encouragement is required at such a period. Definitely a must listen EP, download and be blessed.

What are your thoughts on the EP???
