Album Overview : Alick Macheso - Tsoka Dzerwendo

The legendary guitar maestro is back with a new offering, and  a lot of hype was created for this album. The sponsors rilly dug deep to make this album a success, they tied all loose ends, promotion wise, distribution wise. Zimbabweans have witnessed what happens when big companies and sponsors come together. The album regardless of it being musically great of deficient the sponsors and companies made sure that it will be a commercial success. The sales from the first day testify to that, read somewhere that over 100 000 units were sold around the country and that is huuuuge.

Now to the music. Macheso's last album Kwatakabva Mitunhu was a major disaster. Up to today I have never fully listened to one track from that album, it was badly timed, very very badly timed. He released the Album when Sulu's Syllabus  (Sean Timba to be specific) was destroying every music chart, every radio station, and every speaker in the country. It was ill timed, the album stood no chance. This time they chose their release date perfectly, there is no good Sungura Album in the market right now, Jah Prayzah's Jerusarema has finished its domination, Sulu's festive Singles Macamarada and Zororo are buzzing in the back ground with minimal radio destruction. Its the perfect time for Macheso to drop his album. At the moment Zimbo's will actually take time to listen to his album without distractions, and this will bode well for him because Macheso's music grown on you, it does not hit you in the face like what Dancehall and Hip Hop tracks do to you.

So have a had a day listening to the album. Am not yet able to give a full track by track review of the album, I need more time maybe after a week or two. Right now my thoughts and feeling towards the album are a bit clouded, am happy to hear Macheso back, it was a wish of mine for the legend to rise again. Will have to wait till that excitement has subsided and then I will be able to make a partial review.

Not singling out songs I will say the production is top standard, instrumental arrangement seems and sounds well though of, the vocals are audible and its still the signature Macheso Zimbos fell in love with.

The tracks sound good, the themes of the tracks are as expected from Ba Sharo; bringing to light and highlighting the important family issues that we face in our daily lives. The themes he cover are one major weapon/secret that has made him a darling of the masses, Zimbos can relate to his words. Also some love advice in there from the man.

It appears he still got his touch on the strings. Engaging prodigal drummer Obert Gomba seems to have helped in the quality of the sound.
