5 Local Tracks You Must Be Listening To

Most people only concentrate on music that is already popular or tracks by popular artists and this creates a major challenge for upcoming artists. However listening to new artists can be a real pain because some of the projects are just awful, so the masses are justified for their popular selections. Despite the perception that new artists are below par  there are some really good new guys out there and its up to people like me who listen a wide range of music to discover and help promote those unknown gems. Sometimes its not that the artist is new or upcoming but because of the genre they sing the masses will quickly disregard them and their music, when you get those "I know that person is an artist but I have no idea what they sing.." kind of answers

So below is a list of 5 tracks you've probably never heard or given much attention to but you should definitely take a listen to:

1) Djembe Monks ft X Mile - Chamukeke
This tribal house outfit from Bulawayo is definitely a marvel to watch. Been to one of their shows and their perfomance is filled with so much energy and coupled with the originality of their sound it is one great experience. Chamukeke is their first and only release of 2016 so far. Had this track in my phone from late Jan when it was released but had not really listened to it. During a random listening session the song came on and I was like "Why was I skipping this track all this time", the track is dope. Its a nice tribal house track that is guaranteed to have you hooked and dancing in no time. The Black Motion like vibe is just amazing. Great work and production by the Djembe Monks. Also check out Murikaboto ft Mzoe 7  its another equally superb tribal house jam.

2) Hope Masike - Ndinewe
Ya I know some of you are shocked at the inclusion of this track but take a leave from the few Zimbos on twitter #Twimbos, meet with less social network savvy Zimbos (Which is the majority) and ask them if they know about Hope Masike or the track Ndinewe....The results will shock you. Despite that Ndinewe is a brilliant track,  quite a number will say its Hope's best song to date. Its a great love song coupled with some heavenly mbira work and a beautiful voice. This is the track that should be destroying the music charts but well who will vote when only a few know about it. It has a beautiful video to go with it. Make sure you check it out.

3) Bryan Kadengu - Usasiyane Neni
I have been mentioning this guy a lot recently and there is a good reason for that....He is amazing!! His 2015 album Nyaya Dzerudo is a must have. Could have picked either Matida, Nyaya Dzerudo, Beautiful You Are or Marunjeya but today the am in a rhumba inclined mood so Usasiyane Neni won. This particular track has a serious rhumba feel and not that computer generated rhumba but the good kind we grew up dancing to. Its a great love song and the production is on point. Its a track /Album Zimbos should listen to...you won't be disappointed trust me.

4) Dboy & Sparxx - Energy
Heard this track during the festive season when I was in the beautiful Valley Of Kings Mutare. When it comes to partying this is a track that must be a staple in clubs and parties across Zim. Energy got me hooked and I had to look for the track, did not know the title so had to google the lyrics and ended up at a Facebook page of a random Zimbo in the UK, asked them the name and they gladly assisted me. This track is big on the Mutare party and club scene...and well the artists are from Mutare so its expected. Since I came back to Harare and Bindura have not heard this anywhere, even the radio.....I strongly believe Zimbos must take a listen to this track...

5) Verseless ft Sharky, Lincoln The Prez & Fluid - Home
From the beautiful Home EP this title track is worth a listen, the whole Ep is a must have. Reviewed the EP a couple of days back : Hope Ep Review. Home is a great laid back hip hop jam, urging people to cherish their heritage and remain original. The EP may still need time to reach the corners of the country but it's definitely an amazing listening experience. The last third of the track always goes deeper every time I listen to it, the Saxophone works is heavenly. Check it out.

These are the 5 track I believe you should check out, will do another list when I find other deserving tracks.

What are your thoughts on the list and what other tracks do you think need the recognition???
