Track Review : Nargee - Awesome & Nib Crouch ft Nargee Zvondibata (Remake)
Many have coined 2016 the Year of Zim Hip Hop. It has started well for local Hip Hop and a number of highly anticipated projects are expected to drop this year (Perfect Tehn, Morning Glory, Bars Of Gold, Pages of Syn, NGNGv3...). Local Hip Hop fans can't ask for a better project lineup. However most of the attention is given to the big artist and new upcoming artists are usually ignored, despite some of them being pretty good.
One of the goals of this blog is to give upcoming artists a platform and the required exposure. The blog cannot however guarantee success but it just avails a platform and it's up to the artists to win the people over.
- Nargee - Awesome
Awesome is about feeling confident and self belief. That moment when you feel like you can conquer if you put in the work. Nargee is motivating himself on this track, on most parts he is giving himself a pep talk, a personal confrontation. In summary this is a glimpse into Nargee's mind. Love the style and arrangement.
The delivery is on point, the verses are audible. The chorus is simple but on point. The vocals blends well with the instrumental. The poem at the end of the track was a great inclusion.
In overall this is a solid track. Despite copying Drake's instrumental the content/lyrics saves the track. Its personal and passionate and those are always great ingredients for a great track.
- Nib Crouch ft Nargee - Zvondibata (Remake)
The instrumental is okay but more creativity is required if one is to catch the attention of the many hip hop heads. The inclusion of live instruments (Guitars, Keyboards, African Drums...etc) is a great way to spruce up the appeal of an instrumental.
Zvondibata is about having a good time, partying and having a couple of drinks. Its not the best of themes taking into consideration the rise of conscious rap world over.
The delivery is a bit mixed. Nib's delivery did not please me that much, at certain moments I couldn't hear what he is rapping about. He needs to work on his delivery and ensure it's more audible. Nargee was in charge of the second verse and he did well, his verse was audible.
In overall this song fails to really please me. Party themes are not entirely bad but the structure and layout have to be appealing like Zunguza by Marques, Stunner's Chibhodhoro, Jnr Brown's Madrinks or MMT's Koovha just to mention a few and this tracks fails to deliver that spark.
Looking forward to hear more tracks from Nargee and also see how Nib develops from now on.
What are your thoughts on the tracks??
