Track Review : Brythreesixty - X's

Brythreesixty denounced the Christian Rapper tag end of 2016 and it raised a lot of eyebrows. The major concern being will he make it in secular hip hop. The local Hip Hop industry despite playing second fiddle to Dancehall is quite fierce, there are beefs everywhere, shade is being thrown in every direction. The hip hop throne is a fiercely contested title which Bry wants to challenge for. It will take something amazing to be considered as the King or even to be mentioned as a worthy contender. So how does Brythreesixty's X's fare???
808 Mafia and Brythreesixty himself were behind the production of this track. The track in on a trap instrumental...well Brythreesixty is referred to as the Trap King so that's not surprising. Trap music on the other hand is all over the place, on the radio and internet, TV and sometimes one will feel like they have heard the beat before. Despite that, they did a commendable job on the instrumental.

This is a track about an ex lover who wants to get back with you, because now they see you have made it. This is a common occurrence these days, a girl may leave a guy because he has no cash " haana bag" and when the guy finally makes it, the girl will start apologizing saying that she made a mistake and wants him back. With valentines around the corner, there will be a lot of ex lovers trying to get back. Niceee.

Brythreesixty was in charge of both the chorus and verses. If you have been following hip hop on a continental level you can't help but hear the resemblance of this track to South African Emtee's Roll Up. The structure, the beat and way of singing especially the chorus heavily borrows from Roll Up and that removes a lot of point from this track. Despite that Bry did a commendable job on the verses, not exceptional but ok.

In overall this is an good track. It's a nice track to announce Bry's entrance into the secular Hip Hop circles, however he has to put in more work if he is to cause waves in this genre. Am very much looking forward as to how he will develop from here on-wards.
