EP Review : Slizzy AJ - I'm Back EP

The local hip hop scene is dominated by a few artists who have the privileged to be played on radio. Among those few, some are really brilliant and some are friends with the radio DJ's. Now if you do not know any DJ/Presenter personally, then you gonna have to slay it to an extend that they cannot continue ignoring you!

Slizzy AJ is an upcoming rapper from Chitungwiza, working hard to make a name for himself in the hip hop scene. He released his EP titled I'm Back and let's see  how it fares??

The EP contains 3 tracks, and below is a track by track analysis:

1) Shayi Zandla

Produced by Promics and Slizzy AJ. The instrumental sounds nice, the production in overall is quite standard. Slizzy AJ is saying clap hands for me, am on another level now. Its a self praise kind of track. Slizzy AJ was in charge of both the chorus and verse and he did quite well. In overall this is a nice track, my preferred one on the EP.

2) Sikhat Sam

Produced by Promics and Slizzy AJ. The instrumental sounds good however the overall production is not convincing, the track is not clearly audible, especially on the verses. They went for KO kind of sound on this track, which is not bad but its the overall production of the track that lets the song down. On this track Slizzy AJ is saying its now my time, am now on top...uhmmmm ?????. He was again charge of the verses and chorus. The chorus is okay, the verses not so much mostly due to that its hard to hear what he is saying.

3) Ngifun  uKwaz

Produced by Promics and Slizzy AJ. The instrumental sounds good, but the overall production is still lacking. Also one cant help but hear the KO influences on this track also, l bet he is one if his role models. The track is also about self praise. The chorus is good, found myself bumping my head to it...it complements the instrumental well and the verses are okay, well for some parts which are audible.

In overall the EP is average, More work is still required on the production. Slizzy AJ also needs to work on his rapping skills, although he is largely influenced by KO he needs to find his own sound and develop it.

Most importantly when a rapper is not yet established, I strongly advise against doing self praise songs. They make the artist appear fake and wannabe like. Its better to do a social commentary track, it makes people take respect and take notice of you more easily. Take for example, Stunner's - Rudo Rwemari, T -Gonz - Zvenyu, Nasty Trixx - Chidanger, Marcques - Zunguza.....people could easily relate to them becasue of their track themes.
