EP Review : Cal_Vin - Askies EP

Cal_Vin is undoubtedly the king of Bulawayo Hip Hop, his stock keeps rising by each release. He has put in the work and Zimbabwe is definitely taking interest in the Luveve based rapper. Whilst we are still jamming to Bona he has decided to release an EP. Initially he was supposed to drop his Year of the Vin album but he chose to give us the Askies EP as he puts the final touches to the album. So ya ya'll wondering how the EP fares??

The EP carries 5 tracks and below is a track by track review the EP:

1) I Got Now : The instrumental is maddddd, its angry..its fireeeeeee. I LOVE IT
"I care less about who got next...cause i got now
That's a bold and courageous statement to make. He definitely Got Now,  he is the finest rapper at the moment. This track is going stir something among many rappers, Hip Hop is about egos and this track will push others to react in order to protect theirs. Cal_Vin is in beast mode here, standing his ground declaring that he is the best and worked hard to get here.

2) Back Pack Boy : Also loving the instrumental on this one. The backpack on this track serves as a fashion statement and also a sign of a hustler. Cal_Vin always has his backpack on because he is always on the hustle. Having a backpack means one is ready to make money, the backpack serves as a money carrying case. It also means one is ready to push his art as he says he can "sell his music from his backpack". The theme of the track is that Cal_Vin is always ready to put in the work  and is also on point fashion wise. Dope track.

3) Another Day : Instrumental on point, chilled and dope. Love the chorus, its different and its Kendrick inspired....he does sound like Kendrick Lamar on the chorus.  When the bars start dropping he reverts back to the excellent Cal_Vin we've come to respect. On this track Cal_Vin is singing about a girl he once met and liked, they got to talking and all that sweet stuff...but now she is far away from him and he is reminiscing, wishing they will meet again another day. Don't know if this is something that happened to Cal_Vin or not but regardless l love the track.

4) Don't Stop Music ft Crystalline : Instrumental on fleek. Love the guitar work and the RnB feel of this track. Respect. On this track Cal_Vin is saying he will never stop music, its his hobby, his work, its gave him a direction in life, a purpose. Crystalline is new to the game and she did ok, but she still needs to put more work.Enjoying the track.

5) Life After Me : Instrumental is dope, on point as usual. This is a personal track, Cal_Vin is battling within himself about bad and good. He is questioning his relationship with God, judging with what he does and how he can mend it. He is questioning the current state of Christianity, the debate between Pentecostal and non-Pentecostal churches. He is wondering where he will go after death? heaven or hell??  this is a moral battle within a person. The difference between good and bad in this world is now blurred. Powerful track. It even got me thinking about my life.

This EP is amazing. Cal_Vin is seriously talented. He showed his versatility on this EP. His verses are always new and different but he maintains his authenticity. Very few artists are this versatile. What l enjoyed more is his originality, there is that urge for rappers to sound American but he kept it Zim.

Cal_Vin is behind the production of this EP and he did an awesome job in that department also.

With this EP l can confidently say he is the best Rapper in Zim at the moment. Now am counting down to the Year of The Vin Album. At this rate the Luveve Boy will be scooping all the awards come awards season.
