Track Review: Winky D Feat. Oliver Mtukudzi - Panorwadza Moyo

Winky D is about to release his album for this year and as expected the buzz and hype is getting louder and louder. Last year in October he released the Gafa Life Kickstape which was a massive success and was "the" album for the festive season. The Gafa Life Kickstape took all the attention from Killer T's superb Mangoma Ndaimba album which had been the top dancehall album for the first 3 three quarters of 2016. This year Freeman's Mangoma Ihobho has been dominating the dancefloor scene since the beginning of the year and the major question is will Winky D's new album snatch the throne from Freeman (most probably). Unlike last year Winky decided on releasing a lead single first before the album arrives and on the lead single he featured a living legend Oliver "Samanyanga Tuku" Mtukudzi. The collaboration has indeed caused massive speculation, two greats on one track!!! lets see how it fares.

Oskid was behind the production and he did a superb job. Oskid loves to play with the bass, on most of his tracks its the bass that leads the track rather than keyboard or guitars and he did the same on this track. He also showed some very good keyboard work on this jam. Was expecting to hear the signature Tuku guitar more but aside from the intro the guitar is not that visible. Regardless the instrumental is sounding good, Oskid managed to arrange the instruments in a way that fits both the artists very well. Despite the instrumental being more dancehall, the strings and keyboard give the instrumental a pensive and mellow vibe which in turn works well for Tuku. The overall production is done very well, the vocals are very audible, the track is very balanced.

Panorwadza Moyo is an emotional track. Winky is asking the Lord why are there so many deaths nowadays, the cemetery is now a like a public park, day in day out there are people gathered there. People are dying and a lot of orphans are being left behind which is making life behind for those guardians left behind. Social consciousness at it best.

Winky gave a superb performance, his vocals worked perfectly with the beat. Tuku had a surprisingly very small part to play, he provided the ad libs, something I never expect Tuku to do on a track. I felt a verse would have been awesome from Samanyanga but the producer saw it fit for him to do just as he did. Tuku's vocals are always awesome and the small part he sang, he did quite well. In overall the two legends blended well on the track. Tuku managed to add a different flavour but the track remained a Winky track, which it's supposed to be.

This is a powerful track, it reminds me of Mabasa by Tuku. Very emotionally charged. By virtue of the artist names this track was destined to perform very well. Like I said this is an emotional track and like Tuku's Mabasa its not a track people will listen to like 5 times a day (and that is after the hype has died down), its too emotional for such intensive listening. However the track did not wow me as I expected from such heavyweights, in overall its just a nice track, not exceptional as I expected. Tuku's best collaboration with a young urban artist remains ExQ's Paita Rudo.

What are your thoughts on the track??
