Album Review: Tamy The 18th Rollercoaster

Every now and then there are tracks and albums that get completely overlooked by the majority but which are of the utmost quality and showcase some exceptional talent. Last year came across Nyaya Dzerudo by Bryan Kadengu, the album is just fantastic, the few who have managed to listen to the album will testify to its mastery, (Nyaya Dzerudo Album Review).

Listening to the radio a couple of months heard a beautiful track titled Sango by a talented unknown Zimbo. Heard the track a couple of times and fell in love with the amazing jam. I remember tuning on to radio from 9-12 am every day for weeks hoping to catch the name of the artists,(did the same for Bryan K last year). Finally got to catch her name, Tammy. Searched and searched  for her and her tracks to no avail. Months down, heard another superb jam from her Ndibereke on radio and immediately intensified my search. Finally came across her profiles and album...my prayers had been answered and it is definitely worth the wait. So such awesomeness must not be held in secret decided to do a review of the album The 18th Rollercoaster and possibly introduce someone to this amazing artist and album.

The album contains 7 tracks and will be doing a track by track review below. So lets down to it:

1. Bhundu
This is an uptempo house track. The production is standard. Love the instrumental, the house synths, the different animal sounds(crickets, monkeys, birds chirping...) which create the Bhundu feel, the drum sounds and the sax. It sounds nice, the isntrumental just makes you feel good. This track is a celebration of Africa, its different  and diverse cultures, the beautiful people...etc. This song is for those who are proud to be African. Tamy gave an awesome performance on the track, she complemented the instrumental very well. Solid  and lovely track

2. Bhundu Remix
The remix is on a tribal house tip. The track is laced with a lot of percussions compared to the original track. Love the bass line here, its raw and edgy. The production is solid, great work by the production team. Most of the times I prefer this one to the original and most of that is due to the bass line.

3. Sango
This is my brothers favourite track on the album. This is a beautiful beautiful motivational jam, Its based on a traditional saying: "Sango Rinopa Aneta" meaning success comes to all those who have worked extremely hard for it, those who have sweated to realize their dreams. The production is standard one of those tracks that gets you hooked from the beginning. Tamy was awesome on this track, if you need to introduce Tamy to anyone this serves as a perfect track to use. She gave a strong and balanced performance here. Such a performance is expected from artists much older than her but she pulled it of in a excellent way. Powerful.

4. The People
The beginning of the track reminds of how a number of bands start their sets, after they have tuned their instruments and are testing to see if the instruments are sounding well. This will do well as an opener at a show it gets people right into the mood. Moreover the instrumental is sounding good. The bass line is nice, whoever was on the bass guitar did a good job. The people is about celebrating life. Life is for living and this tracks urges people to be thankful of life and enjoy it. Tamy was awesome on the lyrics, her voice is indeed captivating. Lovely.

5. Believe
This is on a chilled acoustic tip. It has some sweet guitar and keyboard work. Its a motivational track, urging people to believe, to have faith in life...faith that things will be better, faith that their dreams can be achieved. Its one of those truly uplifting tracks, perfect for those moments where you just wanna enjoy music without any hustle, like on a Sunday afternoon drive. Tamy was also awesome on the vocals. lovely.

6. Tonight
Tamy is young and full of energy so there was bound to be a party jam and this is that track for the album. Its not about making you think deep or anything of that sort....its the track you're supposed to dance to. The instrumental is on point, with some nice guitar  rhythms. This track is perfect for that drive to the party, club or concert, it will hype you up and gear you up for awesome night out.

7. Ndibereke
My favourite track on the album. Catchy chorus and an awesome instrumental this track has all the ingredients of a classic and hit jam. From the onset you will feel like singing along and by the end of the track you will definitely be singing and nodding along. Tamy also showed that delivering strong vocal performances is not a one time thing, she can do it all day. I believe Sylent Nqo was on the guitar on this track, the guitar work is on point. We run from a lot of issues in life, it just seems easy that way but Tamy is saying you can not run all your life and some problems will be waiting for you after you finish your marathon so just pull up your socks, man up or woman up and face your problems. Powerful.

In overall this is a brilliant album and it serves as a superb debut album. Love the instrumental arrangement of the album, the production team did a great job on the production.
