Video Review: Winky D - Disappear

Last year in October when Winky D released his Gafa Life album little did he know that inside the album was arguably his biggest track to date. Disappear tore down the dancefloors all over Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, it was the track for the festive season in 2015, even up to now the song is still sounding fresh and is a guarantee to fill up the dancefloor. The song reached top spot on BBC Extra beating other celebrated East African heavyweights. Despite all that success the song lacked visuals, fans were waiting for the video for long and all hope to get one was lost. During the release of his new album Gafa Futi Chi Extraterrestrial (Gafa Futi ChiExtraterrestrial Album Reviewl) Winky promised that he would release the visuals for Disappear before the new tracks.

2016 has seen a major step up when it comes to music videos on the local scene, we have seen some superb visuals such as ExQ ft Ammara Brown - Bhachura (Remix), Jah Prayzah Ft Diamond Platnumz - Watora Mari, Takura - MaObama, Janet Manyowa ft Minister Mahendere - Kune Muponesi, Freeman - Happy Time just to mention a few. For an icon such as Winky D and a track like Disappear there were high expectations from the fans. The visuals were to drop at 22:00hrs on 11/11/16 and like every Zimbo I had bought some data bundles and started the countdown.....passing on the time I was asking myself: will the video match the above mentioned videos, will it match up to the awesomeness of the audio???

Got carried away by Whats App a bit then realised it was 22:20hrs so jumped to You Tube, refreshed the Winkydonline page and yep the video was there as promised. Had saw some snaps from the video shoot on Facebook so I expected to see some high quality shots (saw a Red Dragon camera there so ya), a Maserati, some Winky attire, some ambient smoke and a girl dancing and that all we got!!......like literally that's all we got!!!! Well the only thing that was new was that the problems were printed on a bond paper and Winky is literally burning them with no passion or joy at all showing at his face. Where is the creativity?? This song had us dancing our problems away, it provided an escape to our daily problems an the video just adds more problems to us.

Don't get me wrong, the quality is world class, the warm grand like effects are on point. It just lacks a story, there is non at all. There are no people having fun in the video, that part inonzi "...maoko mudenga maoko mudenga..." got us all raising our hand in joy whenever the song was played and when it reached  on the video noone even raised their hands, including Winky himself. The choice of dancer(s) is also a miss, that's not how we danced to the song. I know the video was shot is SA but keep it Zim. Jah Prayzah did the same mistake with the Mudhara Vachauya visuals... no matter where you shoot your video keep it Zim.

So ya I'm not pleased! We waited a year and this is what we got eish!!!! Gafa musadaro.

In overall this is an expensive high quality miss. The video did not do justice to the track. Winky had never been that good at videos but I just expected him to improve on this instance as he is now better financially positioned than before.

What are your thoughts on the video??
