My Best Movies From Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean movie industry has had its low and highs. The majority of the Zimbos however do not remember the good times. With the Zimbabwe International Film Festival currently going on, I thought of doing my part for the local film industry. Honestly there haven't been a  lot of awesome movies on the local scene but there has been a few memorable ones and those are the ones i'm concentrating on today.

Wanted to give you 10 of the best local movies I have watched but could only come up with 6 so ya below are 6 of my favourite locally made movies.

6. Lobola
This movie managed to give me a couple of laughs, the plot and acting was okay. Their take on the Lobola customs was quite funny. When it came out it gave us hope that the local film industry was about to improve but then after the movie the industry fell back to its dormant state.

5. Jit (1990)
This 1990 Michael Raeburn movie is definitely one of the best local movies I've seen on the local scene. Its about a guy who tries every trick in the book in order to win the most beautiful girl in the hood. It had been given a 6.7/10 on IMDb (Jit on IMDb). Watched this movie way way back, more than 10 years ago but it has stuck in my head till this day. Loved the gimmicks the guy employed.

4.  Neria (1993)
This Godwin Mawuru classic is another emotionally charged movie. The movie explores the challenges faced by a young widow Neria in making ends meet and provide for her family. Oliver Mtukudzi also showed his acting skills on this movie. This movie is well made and executed, and many who have seen it love it. The main Soundtrack Neria by Dr Mtukudzi turned out to be a timeless jam. The movie has a 8/10 rating on IMDb (Neria on IMDb)

3. Gringo The Troublemaker (2013)

2. Everyone's Child (1996)
This Tsitsi Dangarembwa movie is emotionally charged. It's powerful and clearly depicted the challenges faced by orphans in a community. Two teens Tamari & Itai are left distraught after the death of their parents and now have to find way in which to feed for themselves and provide for their younger siblings. This is one of the few movies that made me cry, it really touched me. Chiwoniso Maraire's timeless album Ancient Voices served as the soundtrack to this outstanding movie, tracks such as Madame 20c, Everyone's Child and Tamari are more known from this movie. The movie received a 6.9/10 rating from IMDb. (Everyone's Child on IMDb)

1. Yellow Card (2000)
This movie cased a lot of commotion when it came out at the turn of the century. It was theee movie to watch. In overall Yellow Card was just teaching us of the consequences of unprotected and teenage sex. Most Zimbos do not even know  about the theme though, but they remember the first sex scene in Zim movies (the making out in the rain part). Also who  can forget the short Lazarus Boora (Gringo) cameo, the naughty and crazy John Banda, This movie was just well made and even up to now a lot of Zimbos regard it as the best local movie they have seen. It has a 6.5/10 IMDb rating (Yellow Card on IMDb)

So ya those are my top local movies.  Comment with your favourite local movies.
