Tocky Vibes : Toti Toti Album Review

Obey Makamure popularly known as Tocky Vibes has emerged from his allegedly fall/decline with a new album.  After the stratospheric levels he reached last year with his several hit singles (Mhai, Simudza Maoko, Aenda Nenyika...) his next offering was very much awaited for and will be subjected to a lot of scrutiny, this album will either make or break his career. This is his debut album and below is a song by song review of his album.

1) Tocky Vibes - Nyama Yekugocha :  The first song is on a reggae tip, and the instrumental is awesome (Already Loving it). The song is about people who always see the bad in others. Those who always raise the heat in bringing others down. Great and meaningful song. A great start to the album.

2) Tocky Vibes - Usarare : This song is on a reggae tip with a lot of traditional flavour. As the title suggest he is urging people to keep on moving, working till you make it. Its a motivating song telling people to keep on working. The song sounds like a Jah Prayzah song, there is little reggae or dancehall elements in this song. I bet he is testing the fans with this song, testing waters  before changing his sound (That's my view).

3) Tocky Vibes - Mweya Wekubereka : Also on a reggae tip. This song is about mothers, its like a inverted version of Mhai. The song is about a mother caring and fearing for her child. Its about a mother's love for her children. Great song with great meaning. (Well you can never go wrong singing about a parents love for their children).

4) Tocky Vibes - Hande Tocky : This is a song about ones inner spirits. Those forces that push you to do what you do. This is quite a mysterious song filled with many deep meanings. The translation of this song will cause some confusion and debate among his fans. Personally will need more time listening to the song to properly understand it.

5) Tocky Vibes - Toti Toti : One may say this song is a gospel song. The message is inspiring, its urging people to be prayerful, organised whilst moving forward. The song has a traditional gospel flavour in the instrumentation.

6) Tocky Vibes - Ita Undide : This is a unique Tocky song, Its a love song!!!!!!!!. He borrowed some Extra Large style of singing on a beat reminiscent of the hey days of the Urban Grooves movement. The song is not dancehall or reggae in any way. The song is quite okay, the vocals are not that audible.

7) Tocky Vibes - Oh Father ; Firstly Tocky is singing in English!!!!!!. This is an appreciation song for all fathers who strive and toil for their families. In this song he is praying for his father to be protected and blessed. The lyrics are meaningful but its new hearing Tocky sing in English and personally its not doing well for him.

Overall Review
This album is mixture of sounds and genres. Personally I believe Tocky is trying to move away from the generic dancehall sound and he is testing the waters with this album. The is meaningful (Tocky's Trademark) The album will receive mixed feelings among his fans as it is more reggae and traditional than dancehall.

I give the album a 5.5/10 rating. Its a good album but it did not wow me as much as I expected.
