Gary Mapanzure - Special Delivery Album Review

Gary has that unique urban touch that has won him over many fans. He introduced himself with Wapunza and since then he has been showcasing his undeniable talent. Last year he serenaded us with the lovely track, Show Me Love which was in the various charts for months and was even the top track at some point.

Given the level of love Gary gets its surprising how quiet this launch has been, probably he felt he should let the music do the talking rather than spend money trying to promote it, maybe??!!. So as usual have got my copy of the album and today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts.

1. Malawi

Gary is in love with a lady from Malawi and he is dedicating this track to her. Love how he managed to add the classic "Ndauya kuzoona Mary" folk song into the track, he managed to make the folk song sweet, it was quiet a scary song back then. Production is done well, love the arrangement of the track.

2. Twist

Gary is singing about this lady that has taken his attention, the way she holds herself and the way she looks is enchanting to him. He just want to watch her walk, do her thing and twist all day.

3. Bipolar Love

The arrangement of this track is good, love the instrumental. Production is done well in overall. On the track Gary is talking about that hot and cold relationship, where one day youre in love and the next you're on each others throats.

4. How Love is (ft Nashe)

An early favourite of mine this track, Gary was solid on the vocals and Nashe was also up to task and the two complement each other well. On the track they are saying that's how Love is, sometimes you take a step back so you can clearly see. Production is good, love the arrangement of the track.

5. Nherera

Gary is singing for all the orphans, he is crying out unto the Lord for protection and comfort. He is saying you told us to have faith and that is all we have now so hear our cries.

6. My Family

Gary is sharing his dream and goal of building something for his family, leaving a legacy for his family. This is a dream of many, creating a legacy that will ensure your family will be well off when you no longer there. Production is done well.

7. Nyarara Usavhunze (ft Victor Mapanzure)

Enjoyed the amapiano arrangement of this track, overall production is done well. The beat steals the show on this one. Gary delivered his signature performance, Victor was also on point on his short verse.

8. Radio

Gary is saying this track is dedicated to the one that I sing praises of, I salute you. Gary delivered his signature performance. Production is done well.

9. On You (ft Kae Chapz)

This is the leading track at the moment judging by radio airplay. On this lovely track Gary & Kae Chapz are saying I will not give up on you because am crazy for you am running around making a plan to make you mine forever. The two vocalists managed to blend together very well. Production is solid, track sounds good.

10. Proposal

Gary is proposing to the woman who makes him whole. He then goes on to celebrate when she says yes. It's a track you play when you're deep in love and are sure the person you're with is the one you want to spent the whole life with. Production is well done. Gary delivered his signature performance.

11. A.M.O.L (Interlude)

This is quite a lovely Interlude, Gary was in his element here. He is saying am all for you, he was in that super romantic mood and it's showing all over the Interlude. Production is done well.

12. Chara Chimwe (ft Hillzy)

Gary is saying I can't build a family alone I need you to make compete the puzzle, to make the family whole. The two artists blended quiet well. Production is done well.

13. Birthday (Special Delivery)

On this birthday track Gary is saying you are a special delivery. Your entry into this world brought a lot of joy to the people around you so on your birthday enjoy and have a good time for are a special delivery. Its a track that will make you grateful on your special day. Production is done well.

14. Winner

Gary seals the project with this uplifting track whereby he is saying with Jesus it will be all right, everything will work out fine. Production is again well done.

That's it for Special Delivery, its a nice offering from Gary. It has that unique Gary vibe but not as impressive as I expected. Yes you can get some good jams but in overall the project is average.

Production is done well, Gary worked with a good lineup of producers who all created music that's up to standard. The track arrangements are okay, some tracks better than others, there are no exceptionally good arrangements but no awful ones either.

Vocal wise Gary delivered his signature performance throughout. The features were all good, my favourite one is How Love Is ft Nashe. Theme wise the project is mainly about love and relationships.

In conclusion this is a average offering from Gary, given the level of projects that have been dropping on the local scene this one is quite average.

My overall rating: 6/10
