Tindo Ngwazi - Kujandainzwa Album Review

Tindo Ngwazi has managed to hold his own despite his big brother Mark Ngwazi getting most of the media attention. He has over the years shows he can hold his own and become a force to be reckoned with on his own. He did well with Ndavanzwa Vachibheja and Panomera Mhodzi from his past album, they did some proper rounds in the charts and playlists.

The competition in the Sungura genre is heating up, over the past couple of years we have witnessed a revival in the genre, fan engagement is also increasing, the throne is available for the taking, its now up to the artists to prove who can lead this new movement. If Tindo wants to be in that conversation he needs to step up and show he can match the best. This album is a good opportunity for Adante to show he is a force to be reckoned with. After some time listening today will be sharing with you my thoughts on the album below.

1. Ndine Chikumbiro

Tindo is singing about the challenges that he is facing in trying to make something of his life, it seems whenever he seems to be moving in the right direction some unfortunate thing happens that erodes all the progress. For example, someone close falls sick or a certain accident occurs whenever he gets some extra cash, it feel there is a bad spell that is upon him that is waiting to destroy any progress he makes financially. He now put his future in the hands of the Almighty to protect him and remove that bad curse that appears to be on his life. The production is done well, the guitar work is decent.

2. Zivai Vanhu

Tindo is urging people to be careful of the people they have around them, its important to fully get to know those who you spend most of your time with, those whom you call dear. Having the wrong people around you will only lead to disaster. The track arrangement is good, the guitar work is good. Tindo was also good on the vocals.

3. Wakandivimbisa

Tindo is singing about keeping promises on this track, its always painful when someone breaks a promise they have made to you, especially when its a loved one. When someone you hold dear promises you and you plan your life based on that promise then they turn around and do the opposite, you will feel your whole life imploding. The track is produced well, the guitar work is lovely, the lead and Rythym guitars are weaving in and out of each other nicely. A matured delivery from the band, smooth and nice.

4. Ndauya Neimwe

On this track Tindo is singing about prioritizing treating yourself and your loved ones in this journey of life. For many its all firefighting, trying to make ends meet but once in a while one needs to wind down and enjoy. Taking themes and statements from hits from various Sungura artists who have pushed such similar messages was a good touch on his side. The production is done well/

5. Ndakaita Dzungu

This track warns against rushing to publicize certain issues, there is need for composure when dealing with certain information. Many have been greatly ashamed after publicizing something only to be left hanging once the issue has been resolved and now one is left wishing they could take back their words. The track is arranged well, the guitar work is good.

6. Ngatidye Zviripo

On the last track Tindo is urging his partner to be content with what they have at the moment, as much as people desire better its also important to accept the current standing of things whilst you work towards a future you want. Unnecessary comparisons lead to many problems. The track is produced well, the guitar work is good.

So ya that's it for Adante's latest album Kujandaidzwa and I feel its a missed opportunity, its a respectable effort but the more I have been waiting for is not here yet.

The production of the album is done well, Cedion Wonder did a commendable job. Tindo managed to avoid the main disease affecting the genre; there is a lot of cost cutting that is happening in the genre which means certain tracks are not well mixed and mastered (a consequence of too may producers who have no idea how to handle live instruments), one needs to pay the extra fee and get a knowledgeable producer to take over, its better to reduce number of tracks but end up with properly made tracks than compromise sound and release many tracks.

The arrangement of the tracks is where the album fails to really make lasting impact, the guitar work is not necessarily bad but its does not stay with you after you finish listening to the tracks. More creativity is needed in that department, most tracks sound and feel generic. A good Sungura tracks has guitar work that will keep on playing in you head long after listening to the track, that the main reason people will keep returning to your track, that guitar line. This album does not offer such moments and that is something Tindo and team have to greatly work on.

If Tindo is to be among the top he has to find a way to make his music unique, not in every aspect but in the few aspects that matter, such as arrangement of words, pronunciations, how the lead/rhythm/bass guitar is mixed..etc to make his music stand out. This does not only apply to Tindo but many current Sungura acts, there is need for these artists to find a way to separate their music, adding an element that makes their tracks instantly recognizable, that is the missing link for many artists, its what's stopping them from reaching the Alick Macheso, Dhewa, Chibadura, Chopper, Dembo levels.

To conclude this is an average album, Tindo remains a promising talent, as I have explained below he needs to figure out how to engage into the next gear if he is to leave a mark on the Sungura scene.

My overall rating : 5/10
