Kayflow - Nyamadrive ll EP Review

Kayflow is one of the most impressive artist in the Hip Hop genre right now, he has been dropping big tracks left right and center, he has a style and brand that many are relating to. He is strategically cultivating a solid following, by pursuing a brand of art that is different from the generic popular style and with each release you can see how his brand is growing.

The first Nyamadrive EP was received well by fans in the genre and some were even calling for the album to be crowned album of the year, it did not but it gives you an idea of how good the album was. Personally did not get to do a review but listened to it and it did deserve the hype. Am a big fan of his single Mudendere, its embodies the entire style that Kayflow is going for, striking visuals, catchy hooks and solid bars on the verses.

Now he has released the follow up to the well received Nyamadrive I by releasing the second chapter of the project; Nyamadrive II. Have managed to listen to the project and today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts on the project.

1. Maria

On the first track Kayflow is serenading Maria, a lady he is crazy about. He is willing to do all she wants just to have her to himself. The wordplay is solid on this track, the choice of words and vocal arrangement is on point. The instrumental is also on point, its has a roughness to it which gives this track a passionate vibe which is perfect for the theme.

2. Mukati (feat Bagga)

The vibe from the first track continues on this one where Kayflow teams up with Bagga on this party jam. The track is mixture of hip hop and dancehall, the fusion was executed well, its a track that can easily get people on the dancefloor. The two artists all delivered solid performances, their collaboration works.

3. Zunza

He continues on the party track on this track where he is saying shake what your mama has gave you, don't be shy shake it. The track is produced well, Kayflow was good on the verses. The production is good but it does not have that edgy feel that makes Mukati lively.

4. Manake

On this track Kayflow is both a personal prayer and motivating song to all young people. He is saying all shall be well in the end, yes sometimes life will not be as you want 100% but your path will get better so don't stop working hard, don't lose hope, the Lord will upgrade your life. The wordplay on this track is solid, Kayflow was in his element on this jam. The production is also done very well.

5. Chidhumo NaMasendeke (feat Bagga)

On the last track they are celebrating true friendship, having that person who has your back, who understands your journey and is willing to go the rest of the way with you. Both Kayflow and Bagga were solid on their verses, this time the collaboration is even better than on Mukati. The track is also well produced, the vibe is correct with this one, its flows very well.

So ya that's it for the second edition of Nyamadrive by Kayflow and it takes off from where he left with the first Nyamadrive EP. Its a gradual progression of his sound and style, playing the two back by back you can see the direction he is moving towards.

For Kayflow its not about the generic hip hop that we are used to from mainstream media and its also not about being underground where one needs a degree to decipher a song, its rap with a bit of dance,  and edge to it. The tracks sound very good, you can follow the infectious bars as you dance along. The production is well done, the choice of instrumentals was well executed, from the edgy sound of Maria to a more chilled vibe on Chidhumo naMasendeke the producers did superbly well.

On the verses and hooks Kayflow was solid, he can execute both to a higher level something not many artists in the hip hop genre can manage. On the bars he was lethal, socially aware and funny. Solid performance from Kayflow. Bagga is the only featured artist and he delivered, there was no need for any other artist, he managed to complement Kayflow's style very well, whilst also delivering solid verses.

To conclude this review, this project is a joy to listen to. It was following up a superb project, it had big shoes to fill and it delivered. In the local Hip Hop scene most artists fail to follow up on solid projects, many fail to deliver even one solid project, its more of single's with the genre so its always refreshing to have someone who can properly and consistently release solid bodies of work. This will be among the most impressive projects in Zim Hip Hop this year no doubt about that, the bar has been set, AWA Khiwe impressed with her African Women Arise album, lets see how others will fare. Last question is; is it better than the first Nyamadrive??? uhmmmmm its hard to chose between the two, both are awesome projects, will give this new one a slight win for now.

My Overall Rating: 7.8/10
