Tanto Wavie - Sungura Museve II Album Review

What I love about Tanto is how he is trying something different. Am always saying Zim Artist will find it near impossible to dominate the continental or global scene till we create our own sound!! As long as we copying we will continually play second fiddle, with our own sound we will lead and the whole world will be following us. Tanto is one artist who is trying to find such a sound and because of that he will have my attention everytime he drops something.

Was thoroughly impressed by the first Sungura Museve album, also his last Amasungura EP was also a good experiment which I enjoyed. So heading into this album I had many expectations, will it surpass the first Sungura Museve?? Have listened to the project a couple of times and today will be sharing with you my thoughts on the project.

As usual will be doing a track by track review and conclude with my overall thoughts on the album.

1. Mbiradzakondo

On this first track Tanto is addressing all those who want to disrupt his work, reversing his progress, saying I will deal with you properly. The production is done well, love the addition of mbira and the iconic mbira guitar, hope he gets to do that more often.

2. Dhikondo

Tanto is dedicating this track to those guys who are always looking for trouble, untrustworthy, deceiving, always looking to one up you. The track is well produced. Tanto delivered his signature performance.

3. Mughetto

Tanto is saying have already made my plans, despite many thinking I will not go far personally he believes he will go far. He is confident in his sound, his evolution, he knows he is a force to reckon with and noone can stop him. The production is solid, the vibe is on point. Tanto delivered a solid performance. Love the interview sample at the end.

4. NaMwari

Tanto is a good beat maker and he knows it, the instrumental here is on point. One thing I love about his production style which he borrowed from Sungura is he gives you time to enjoy the instrumental just as he does on this track. However on this track we do not get the signature Tanto guitar, we get the some lovely keyboard work instead which give the track a calm core in an otherwise hyped production.

5. Muchinjikwa

Tanto is saying I always had a feeling you were going to hurt me but I ignored all the red flags and continued with you, now you have proven me correct, you have broken my heart. The track is well made, Tanto was equally good on the vocals.

6. Ziva

The guitar got me from the start, the instrumental is well made, love how the guitar is singing, Tanto is moving in the right direction with this sound. Production is solid. Tanto is saying if you decide to go just know you shall not find someone like me. He delivered on the vocals.

7. Ndichadzima

Making the guitar sing is always a good idea, that signature Tanto guitar is lovely, it's spot on. The theme however a bit to the dark side; Tanto us addressing mental health issues here saying a lot of stuff keep stressing me, it keeps me up awake at night trying to find a solution, in the end it if feels better to just end one's life and end the struggles. Production is superb.

8. Vakawanda

Tanto is saying I don't trust many, they pretend to love and support me but secretly wish for my demise. The track is produced well. Tanto delivered his signature performance.

9. Ndasvika (ft Bryan K)

Tanto teams up with one of my favourite vocalist Bryan K on this track where they are saying the fans love us, despite some trying to block our progress they shall witness our success. The production is done well. Tanto & Bryan K both delivered good performances.

10. No Cap

The instrumental is flames, it's well arranged. Tanto is really growing as a producer. On this track he is saying am gonna make it anyway despite others wishing him the worst, he is unstoppable. The vocal performance is at par with the production.

11. Mdiwa

This track reminds of Insecurities from the first Sungura Museve, it has a similar vibe. The production is done well, the vibe of the track still hits the right spots. Tanto delivered a beautiful love jam on this one, sing this to your other half and see them melt.

12. Nhai Baba

Tanto is addressing the issue of domestic violence, his father is always beating him up. On this instance he is crying out to this mother to stop his father from opening the door that leads to the room he is hiding in. Tanto's pengame is solid. Production is done well. Tanto delivered a solid performance.

13. Xavi Nesta

The last track on the project is Tanto saying I am untouchable. Some are trying to copy my sound and others are trying to force me to do stuff that I do not want but I will not be coerced into that. The guitars are a bit more aggressive than usual so to match the theme. Production is good.

So ya that's it for Sungura Museve ll and have to say Tanto has done it again, this is goooood.

Tanto is absolutely among the best beat makers and producers in the whole hip hop fraternity, the instrumentals in this project are superb. Have the utmost respect for Tanto for pushing a different sound, our Hip Hop has to be unique to that from the States or SA, just as the South Africans fuse kwaito into their Rap Tanto is adding Sungura for that uniqueness and the results are beautiful to behold. Like the first Sungura Museve Album this one also flows so smooth, the vibe is solid and uniform, you can listen to the album over and over without skipping tracks. The instrumentals alone are better than many hip hop projects out there.

Tanto on this project is addressing a couple of issues from those who want him to conform to certain arrangements (Xavi Nesta, Mbiradzakondo), those who want to control and stop him (Vakawanda, No Cap, Ndasvika) he also touches on the issue of mental health on Ndichadzima, to domestic violence on Nhai Baba, the some love and relationships issues (Ziva, Muchinjikwa, Mdiwa). The themes are well tackled.

On the vocals Tanto was solid throughout and the chosen collaboration is well executed.

To conclude this review, this is a beautiful project to listen to, Tanto has again delivered. He is onto something, can't wait to see what's coming in the future. My favourite track as of now is Ziva, love how the guitar is singing along. I highly recommend this project to anyone looking for good Zim music to listen to. Definitely among the most impressive album of 2022.

My overall rating: 8.25/10
