Tanto Wavie Amasungura EP Review

Tanto had one of my favourite projects of 2021, his Sungura Museve Album was a breath of fresh air and there is something about witnessing an artist who has embraced the creativeness in them. The project was very well received and ensured Tanto got a special place and respect in many people's lives.

This year he has decided to follow up on with the Amasungura EP, was hyped for this one given how I loved his last body of work. So as soon as it was out, rushed to get my copy and after a week am ready to share my views on the project.

As usual will be doing a track by track review.

1. Mabude

The first track on the project is a party jam. The production is done quite well, the tracks arrangement is on point. Tanto delivered his signatured performance on the vocals.

2. Muyeuchidze (ft Joy Rukanza)

This is a superb love jam, Tanto & Joy are advising those in relationships that when things are going sour, remind your partner the vows you both made at the beginning. Production of the track is sublime, love the arrangement, it flows soo well, it had me rocking side to side. The vocals also complement the instrumental very well, it's a track you will be singing along to before it ends.

3. Ndiyoyo.

The Tanto guitar is given more time on this track as it sings alongside the vocals. Overall production is done well. On the track Tanto is saying let's get on with the vibe which has already started, we will have the energy to party as long the drinks are there.

4. Mjolo

Tanto got back on that love and relationships tip on this track as he talks about how everyone wants to be in love. Love makes us do crazy thing, we go the extra mile for love and life is much better with love in it. The production is solid on this one, love the vibe and flow. The vocals are also on point.

5. Black Label

This can easily be a bhawa anthem. Black Label is a lager well known for its effectiveness in getting you wasted, its the beer of choice for many when they want to get drunk fast. Tanto on this track is confessing his love for Carling Black Label. The production is done well, definitely will be on rotation in clubs soon. The Tanto Sungura guitar is also given much room here to get us in the mood.

6. Xano

The ultimate party track if you ask me. Tanto is saying when am in the mood no drop of alcohol will be left behind, like Cristiano Ronaldo (Xano) I will be ruthless. The production is well done, the arrangement is spot on.  The hook on this jam is catchy, it has that Sungura vibe which just strikes the right chords.

So ya that's it for the Amasungura EP and Tanto continues to experiment and broaden his sound.

The production is done well, Tanto delivered his own interpretation of Sungura Amapiano. The now signature Tanto guitar is fused with some Amapiano arrangements to create a unique variation of Amapiano. Amapiano has different versions such as Barcadi Amapiano, Private School Amapiano and now we have Sungura Amapiano. The tracks all have a nice uniform vibe which makes listening to the project quite refreshing.

Tanto delivered his signature performance on the vocals, I can still pick that care free raw System Tazvida vibe which I loved so much from his last project. The only collaboration on the project;  Muyeuchidze is well made, the two artists blended well.

The project switches between love tracks and party tracks, two themes which the young people love most. The two themes were tackled well, was however more impressed buy the love tracks.

To conclude this is quite a solid EP, Tanto continues to push his sound in a way I highly respect. Its so so satisfying listening to an artist who is not afraid to be a bit different, one who tries to change the mold. I always complain about lack of identity in the music industry and Tanto is showing how one can maintain identity whilst also moving with the times. Given how many have tried and failed to match the South Africans on their type of Amapiano we can all push for this variation (mix Sungura and Amapiano) and I believe we'll make more strides. I recommend this project to all who love listening to an innovative artist who is not afraid to try.

My overall rating : 7.5/10
