Freeman - Robbery Album Review

Freeman is basically the alternative name for consistency, it's such an amazing feat to have someone who delivers consistently good projects for such a long time, ove  a decade now. When he releases you know its good before you even listen to it and he delivers.

His last album Freeman & Friends was very well received and I was a huge fan of the concept. He is back again with another project titled Robbery, how will is fare to the last project?? We'll know at the end of the project.

1. Zvichanaka

On the first track Freeman is saying it shall be well, we all want a good life. We grew up hearing it shall be well and not we still hear it without any change in our life, but keep on going. Production is good, arrangement of the track is quite okay.

2. Robbery

Freeman is saying I love you so much that they can even put him in jail because he will commit a robbery to give you all you want. The wordplay is good on this track. Production is done well, they went for a reggae arrangement on this title jam.

3. Huhwi

The Dokta is talking about a common situation that happens in the ghettos a lot. You approach a lady and she never gives you attention because you have nothing yet but once your life start showing direction she then starts vying for your attention. Track is produced quite well.

4. Chimhanya (ft Daruler & Tocky Vibes)

On this track Freeman and team are saying keep on trying despite the situation being difficult, you will be praised for overcoming these hurdles. The production is well done, the instrumental arrangement and vocal arrangements complement each other very well. Job well done by Rodney beats. The vocals are solid, the three artists work together very well. Loving this one.

5. Tanakidzwa

The Doctor is saying whenever he releases something it's chaos on the dance floor, there is no reason to go home when they pleasure is this good. Production is done well, Sunshine and Freeman still have chemistry.

6. Wairesi (Wireless)

Freeman is saying am the one getting airplane in the airwaves, those who despise him have turned off their airwaves but there are many who even in remote areas turn to piracy so they can hear his music. Production is well done, love the arrangement of the track. Freeman was solid on the vocals.

7. Kusanganisa

The HKD Boss is saying all the running around he does is cause he wants to make ends meet, he is sharing his dream of signing for Sony and having his music played all over the continent. All those you see early morning running around are trying to make ends meet. Production is done well, I am picking some Wekwedu resemblances but production is done well nonetheless.

8. Don't Do It

Freeman on this track is declaring his undying love for his other half, saying that message you saw was not as it seemed, he had just helped her without anything in return and she was just saying thanks so please dont leave. Production is again done well, Freeman was again solid on the track. Love the guitar in the background.

9. Gomba

On this track Freeman is saying haters are plotting his downfall, they have dug a hole for him to fall in. They are walking overtime to bring him down. Production is done well.

10. Dare remaGalis

The HKD Boss is saying we are having a men's meeting and he goes on to discribe the bro code that should be upheld by every man. Production is done well, arrangement is okay.

So ya that's it for this album, its another good project from the HKD Boss. Freeman maintains his reputation of dropping consistently good projects.

The production is well done, did not expect anything less from an artist of such stature. The instrumental arrangements are good. To add character to many tracks they added some saxophone and lovely guitar work. We get the lovely guitar work on Don't Do It and Huhwi is lovely. The Sax added character on songs such as Wairesi, Tanakidzwa, Kusanganisa and Chimhanya. Kusanganisa in a way sounds like Wekwedu, the arrangement is of a similar structure.

Vocally Freeman was solid throughout, he is comfortable with his style and he delivered. The featured artists Daruler and Tocky performed well.

On the themes we got some love & relationship tracks such as Don't Do It, Huhwi & Robbery, then some social commentary tracks such as Zvichanaka & Kusanganisa, then some self praise anti haters tracks such Gomba, Wairesi, Chimhanya and Tanakidzwa. They were all tackled.

In conclusion this is an good project, not the best project of the year or among Freeman's best but good nonetheless. Dancehall fans will have something to add to their playlists this festive season. I recommend most tracks from this project. My favourite track is Don't Do It

Overall Rating : 7/10
