Nyasha David - Songs Of David Album Review

Nyasha David has been making waves with his singles Mary Anne Njenjere and Ndoda for some time and was definitely impressed with what he was offering and the versatility he showed on those three tracks.

When he announced that he was going to release his debut album was waiting to see if the versatility was gonna carry onto the project, was he going to better his first three tracks which all impressed me.

The album has dropped and have gotten my copy and today will be  sharing with you my views and thoughts on the album.

As usual will be doing a track by track review.

1. Njenjere

The first track on the album was already a favourite of mine since it was released some months back. On this track Nyasha is saying life is dynamic and moves in circles, the situation one is in today will not be the same as tomorrow so don't look down on people judging them on their current standing. Production is done well, love the Dancehall feel of the track. This actually came as a surprise as I had sort of bracketed Nyasha as an RnB singer then he switched to Dancehall and nailed it.

2. Ndizvo Here (ft Mwenje Mathole & Chipo Keisha Sande)

On this track they are asking the Lord which ones are the real disciples, which leaders are real, are we living & praying the right way? They ask so whilst also highlighting their desire to have a personal encounter with God. Production is well done, love the reggae arrangement and feel. The vocals are done well, I just love Mwenje and his way of singing is just awesome.

3. Power

Nyasha David is saying Lord give me power, he is talking about the temptations and challenges he faces in the industry so he needs power to be able to overcome. Production is done well, they switched to Hip Hop on this track. Nyasha showed he can also rap, and he actually nailed it, dude is definitely versatile.

4. Ikoko (Top Top)

Nyasha is saying will be there at the top, my goal is to become the best. The track is quite playful, Nyasha continued on the rap tip and was again solid here. Production is well done, the instrumental is as playful as the vocals, it's appropriately arranged.

5. Zvakakwanirana Newe

On this track Nyasha David is saying you have been through a lot in relationships, your heart has been broken many times but am going to give you the love that is perfect for you, the love that you deserve. He is saying we not all the same, am not gonna break your heart, give me a chance to show you love. Production is well done, then arrangement is on point.  Nyasha was also solid on the vocals.

6. Umthakathi Wothando (ft I am King & Denilson Musekiwa)

Nyasha on this track showed the touch that made him a favourite of many RnB/Soul fans. He delivered a passionate performance. The track is also produced in a way that complements the vocals and theme. I Am King was serenading us with the Sax in the background whilst Denilson Musekiwa was doing his thing on the guitar, they combined well to deliver a very lovely jam.

7. Ndoda

This is another track which was released some months back and was already receiving a lot of love from many soul/RnB fans. This is such a beautiful track, where Nyasha is saying you have won me over and I'm gonna show you that I want to be with you everyday. I want us to fulfil all our love desires. Production is done well, the arrangement is well done, love the keyboard work and the grand nature of the track.

8. Qoka Qoka (ft Tymbah & Tytan)

This track has that soulful touch that gets you hooked on from the onset. Production is well well done, the arrangement is spot on. The vocals are as soulful as one could ask, relaxed and on point. Tymbah and Nyasha complemented each other very well, and Tytan brought in the appropriate different flavour to complete the magic.

9. Kizomba (ft Ccicci & Probeats)

As the title implies they switched to a Kizomba style and arrangement on this album. Kizomba has this irresistible rhythm which they managed to implement well, overall production is well done. On the vocals Nyasha was solid, Ccicci was on point, and Probeats was good. On the track they are appraising how this lady can dance to Kizomba.

10. Danane (ft Fusion 5 Mangwiro)

This was the last track released prior to the album, and its currently in the music charts. Nyasha and the group Fusion 5 Mangwiro are definitely among the most impressive rising stars in the music game and they combined well on this track. They managed to fuse styles in just the right way. On this track they are saying let's love each other to their partner, to enjoy the company of each other. Production is well done.

11. Alellah (ft Vasco)

Nyasha is narrating how he fell in love with his lady, how the lady stole his heart. Production is well done, love the arrangement of the instrumental. On the vocals Nyasha was superb, am not so sure of Vasco's verse, his style sort of took the smoothness out of the track, he was better the second time he came back but his first verse not soo much, which is a bummer because this is a lovely jam.

12. Have It All (ft Croft, Asaph & Suhn)

Nyasha switched back to hip hop on this track with a strong lineup. On the track they are saying I want it all, the good life. Nyasha was solid on the hook, Suhn killed it on the first verse, Asaph killed it in the second verse, Croft was also solid on the third verse. This collaboration works, the different styles on all artists blended well.

13. Marry Anne/Mariana

This is one track which was released prior to the album launch and has gotten a lot of love from many music fans, for many this is the track that introduced Nyasha to them. On the track Nyasha is smitten and is professing his love to Mariana, he wants to do the right thing and please her father and mother. Production is again well done, Nyasha was solid on the vocals.

14. Gimme Love (ft Rico F King)

Nyasha is saying Gimme Love, show me some affection and attention. Production is again well done, despite the uptempo vibe the manages to bring some soulfulness to the track.

15. Gona (ft Dobba Don)

Its good hearing Dobba Don, dude can disappear like no man's business, but despite that he is quite talented. On the track they are saying you're good to this lady, praising her that she is the best. Production is again well done. Nyasha and Dobba Don managed to complement each other well, their different styles work well together.

16. Songs of Solomon (Feeling Lucky)

The last track on the project is Nyasha saying  feeling lucky tonight, he is looking forward to some magic today. The production is well done. Nyasha was good on the vocals.

Stream The Album: Songs Of David

So  that's it for the album Songs of David, yjuuh it's a long one but have managed to complete it. The project is well put together and Nyasha definitely showcased his versatility throughout.

In terms of production it's solid throughout. Nyasha worked with producers that understand his sound well and the end result is for all to hear. The project covers various sounds, from Reggae, Hip Hop, Acoustic, Afro Pop, Soul & RnB and all genres are tackled well, like I have mentioned Nyasha was showcasing his versatility. Golden Fingers was behind production of most tracks, but Nyasha also engaged producers like Rodney Beatz, GK, Kalino, Shane and Boss Gidza to add more diversity. Was impressed by the production of this project, given its his debut project he has definitely spared not expenses.

On the themes the album is mainly about love and relationships save for four tracks (Ndizvo Here, Ikoko, Power & Have It All). The love themes are tackled well.

In the vocals department, Nyasha was solid. He showcased his versatility throughout, was surprised to hear him rap, he was actually better than most who are fully in the rap genre. He featured a lot of artists who all brought their various styles, the features were well selected, my favourite features for me as of now is Qoka Qoka with Tytan & Tymbah, tracks just flows.

To conclude this is quite a solid body of work, many times when artists try to show how versatile they are they end up ruining the feel of the project but Nyasha executed it well on this project. I definitely recommend this one.

My overall rating : 7.4/10
