Albums I Am Looking Forward To In 2019

Happy 2019 to you all, hope you had a fantastic festive season. As is now culture that at the beginning of each year I share with you the albums/projects I will be looking forward to in that specific year and that is what I'll be doing on this article. Many artists take long to announce the title of their albums of the albums so do not have the titles to most of them. A challenge I face is that a lot of artists are now shunning away from releasing albums, regardless of that there are still a number of them who still believe in albums.

Lets get to the ten projects am looking forward to in 2019.

1. Mokoomba - Untitled
Mokoomba are the biggest musical export in the country right now and are the most traveled band internationally. They last released an album two years back in 2017 and It was and still is a superb piece of work. During the release date their manager stated that from now going forwards the band will be releasing more frequently so there will not be another 6 year wait. Also during their last show in Harare last year they talked and hinted about the upcoming album and played two tracks from the album. This is definitely one album am waiting for.
2. Hope Masike - Untitled
Hope has been teasing us of a new album for about two years now, hopefully hopefully she delivers it this year. End of last year as part of Mahube they released the album Zenzele which am yet to listen to and may be one of the reasons she postponed her solo album. However am hoping we finally get her solo album this hear, I definitely need some enchanting mbira vibes on my playlist.

3. Victor Kunonga - Untitled
Victor is one talented, quite and reserved guy, he loves doing his thing under the radar but last year through his social media hinted of a new album in the works. Given his release cycle the album is very very close to release. Loved his last album Kwedu to bits and will definitely be waiting for this follow up.

4. Sulumani Chimbetu - Untitled
This one is overdue, given his release cycle the album should have dropped last year but that was not the case. However word on the street is saying the album is nearly ready and will drop this year. Sulu suffered quite a setback as his last album was deemed political and was shunned by radio dj's regardless of that his fans enjoyed the album and are now waiting to see which route he will take for this new album. There has been a shortage of Dendera music in the past few years and a new album will be very welcomed this year.

5. Alexio Kawara - Oyi
This is another way way waaaaay overdue album, his last album Tose was in 2012!!!imagine!!!. Thought the album was going to be released last year but it was postponed and hopefully to this year. Alexio always drops classics when finally releases so I am definitely waiting for this one, hope he wont postpone again.

6. Winky D - Untitled
Was not that impressed by Winky D's last album Gombwe, but what has got me excited about Winky's next project is how political his last two singles were; Gafa MuParliament & Kasong KeJecha. It got me wondering whether Winky is going to be the Mukanya of our generation, singing about the political issues that affect us on a daily basis. It would be something else to have someone of our generation calling out the government when they do wrong by the people they have sworn to serve. Will be looking forward to see which route Winky will take on his next project.

7. Takura - Untitled
Takura has been hinting of something big in the works. His 2018 album Someone Had To Do it was quite okay but not as explosive as his EP's. Am quite confident we are getting something from him, an EP preferably...his Relationship Goals EP was superb. Takura is redefining the urban music landscape and another solid project will definitely make him the leader of the new school.

8. ExQ - Untitled
This is a tricky one but am definitely feeling that we gonna get a new project from the icon. Last year he ruled the airwaves with Tseu Tseu and I don't see any reason he would want to let the moment go, he has to build on it. With MTM he has the resources to give us another fire project. He has also settled into his new sound so all is in his favor at the moment, he knows that and i'm sure he will go for it.

9. Mbeu & The Mhodzi Tribe - Untitled
In my books he had the best album of 2018, Hatizvimire is just a brilliant piece of work. His bonus album Hatikendenge was quite okay but not of the same mold as his debut album. Mbeu's brand rose very much in 2018 and to keep the momentum he has to give us another project this year. He has been dubbed by many as the next big thing in Zim and he has to prove worthy of the title. The genre he specializes in is not a singles genre so am quite sure he will give us another project.

10. ASAPH - KingsVilla 3
ASAPH had a strong year in 2018, he had the biggest Hip Hop track of the year and in recent memory. His 2018 album was however not impressive , it was quite disappointing despite him covering for the album with strong singles. The best thing for me was when he confirmed that he is working on KingsVilla 3 and it would be dropping soon, am a huge fan of the KingsVilla series, its contains his best works to date. The level on storytelling showcased on KingsVilla 2 is unmatched and will definitely love another captivating project such as that. A major question I have is whether he will follow the usual KingsVilla storytelling mood or he will switch his sound to capitalize on the success of Mambo & Good Times.

So ya that's it for the projects am looking forward to in 2019. Feel free to share the albums/projects you are looking forward to in the year of 2019.
