EP Review: Kevin Munetsi - Mack.A.Roni

I love music with soul and Kevin Munetsi brings lots of soul. I'm a huge fan of his sound and vibe, loved his tracks Let Me In 2 and Love 101. and was looking forward to hear what he has in store for us this year (Artists To Look Out For In 2017). He has now decided to drop his first project of 2017 and I'm honoured to be part of the first people to take a listen to the EP. Today will be giving my views and thoughts on the EP.

The EP contains 3 tracks and will be doing a track  track review of the tracks.

1. Flav
On this track Kevin is falling for this girl and he wonders what really drew him to that lady; is it because she got class, or she got flavour, or her beauty or she is independent or all of the mentioned attributes. So he is hoping to talk to the lady and get to understand what makes her that awesome and special. The production is done very well, Marc Blaze did a great job on the production. Its soulful, and smooth, the type of vibe that calms you down. Lovely jam.

2. Rock With U
The first lines of the track correctly summarize what the jam is about;
"You got what I want
  you got what I want
  and
I got what you need
right here..."
Whilst in the club Kevin's attention is drawn to this lady who is dancing so well and he decides to make a move before another guy comes in an swoops her. Whilst dancing and talking with the girl he realizes that the girl has the attributes that he want and also he got what she needs so  Kevin is telling her that I wanna Rock With You tonight. Kevin produced this track himself and he did a lovely job, its sounding nice.

3. Vibe.
On this track Kevin is talking to this lady he likes, who has been stood up again by his man and he is saying your man has no respect, he is clueless on how to treat a lady like you so give me a chance and I'll show you how you should be treated. In life there comes a situation whereby you fall for someone who is in a relationship and you will be waiting for an opportunity to step in and confess your feelings to the person of interest. This is one such moment for Kevin, the guy has stood up/messed up again and the platform is right for Kevin to step in and ask for a chance. In social circles some have labeled such action as a weak move (painting yourself a saint whilst downplaying the other guy) but on the other hand many successful relationships have started that way so it goes both ways. The production is again done very well, Robert Mboko applause to you.

In overall this is lovely project, its well produced and the vocals are superb. The EP has this old skool 90's soul/ RnB vibe which i'm loving. You can listen to it again and again without being bored. Kevin is definitely growing with each production. In an industry which is full of generic afro beat songs and countless high energy dancehall tracks its refreshing to hear music that's down to earth and soulful. The only downside is that some of the situations and scenarios depicted are not that real/common to many Zimbos, on his next projects he will need to make his scenarios more closer to home. Regardless of that Kevin has just became one of my favourite local artists. I hear he has an album in the works Bad Influence, will definitely be looking forward to that one.

What are your thoughts on the EP??
