Track Review: Tamy ft Takura & Dobba Don - Beautiful (Ndozvandiri)
Tamy had a superb debut year last year. Her album The 18th Rollercoaster was received very well and it introduced her to the majority of Zimbos. The two leading tracks Ndibereke & Sango were favourites of many me included, in a way I could say the tracks were too mature for someone of Tamy's age. The superb 2016 for Tamy had me including her among the 10 artists to watch out for in 2017. A couple of week into the new I heard she was going to release a track earlier than I expected and you can imagine my joy. Now the track is here and will be sharing my thoughts and views on the track.
From the EDM inspired synth progression intro one will know the track will be on a modern pop kind of sound. Such a sound is becoming popular with local artists, Trevor Dongo on Shoko Rerudo and Dj Ace Tuner ft Paul Martin on Made For Love followed a similar sound. The good thing about such a style is that it makes the track catchy and on the downside you will feel as if you have heard the song before. The production is however done well, love the dancehall influenced part on Dobba Don's part and the outro which starts from after the last chorus, for me those two parts are my favourite parts of the track.
On this jam Tamy is just inspiring people out there to be confident in the own skin. The world we live now is filled with a lot of influences from the things we see on the TV and internet and due to that some people now feel as if they are less than others so the artists here are encouraging people to be proud with who they are.
Tamy's Album from last year already had a lot of pop influences so it was not gonna be that hard for her to perform well when she switches to a purely pop sound. After listening to the track I can tell you that she did not disappoint, she gave a good vocal performance. Takura gave his usual signature style of rapping which blended well with the track. Dobba Don also delivered his signature style of singing and if you couple that with how they added a more dancefloor flavour to the instrumental during his verse, it becomes the best part/verse of the track, especially that Marasta part. All in all the artists complimented each other quite well.
In overall this is a nice song and it's definitely going to get airplay, the structure is radio friendly. The theme is on point, vocals are good. I don't know if this is the sound Tamy will be focusing on from now on??!! we'll see as time goes. Also with pop music one has to release frequently to remain relevant so I see us getting a lot of tracks from Tamy this year.
What are your thoughts on the track???
