Track Review: Maggikal & Shinsoman - Good Loving
Zim Dancehall keeps reigning despite a number of people complaining about its themes and other various reasons they may have to discredit it. Also the number of dancehall artists is now very very large and it will give you a headache trying to keep up with all of them so many (me included), have resorted to just following certain artists they have grown fond of. Due to the sheer amount of tracks released in the genre, I rarely do dancehall reviews for single tracks except if that track convinces me to do so and that is very rare. A couple of days days back whilst browsing soundcloud, came across this collaboration between Maggikal & Shinsoman and it did convince me to do a review.
Maggikal is like a second tier artist in the dancehall genre, he is very talented and has his fair number of fans but he is not yet in the same bracket as artists like; Killer T, Soul Jah Luv, Winky D, Freeman, Seh Calaz. He also delivered a commendable album last year so he is on my watch-list. Shinsoman made his name some years back and for the past 2 years he was having a hard time in terms of making hit tracks, but showed some signs of a comeback end of last year, so when I saw his name on the title was anxious to see how he is faring.
The track was produced by Movy Dee of SPM Records and he did a solid job. Regardless of the track being a remake of Bob Marley's Turn Your Lights Down Low he did a good job. The bass line is structured well, it has that Oskid kind of arrangement to it. Love the saxophone addition, it gave the track a lovely feel. This is the first time, hearing of Movy Dee but he has impressed me here. Good work on the production.
Like the Bob Marley jam this track follows the same theme. Its about telling your partner that you wanna give them some good loving. Its about setting the mood right for some superb lovemaking making sure the lighting is dim enough, play appropriate music, the perfect atmosphere..etc
Shinsoman may not be the best dancehall lyricist but he knows how to do a chorus, on his day he can deliver the best chorus in any urban genre, be it dancehall, reggae, hip hop, RnB, he can outdo anyone. On this jam he was in such a mood, the chorus is sounding superb. Maggikal was also at par on the verses, his style perfectly blended with the track and chorus. The collaboration works very well.
In overall this is a lovely jam. Making a remake or remix of such an classic is always a big big gamble but the guys pulled it off, i'm loving the track.
What are your thoughts on the track??
