Show Review: Tonight With Zororo
Tonight With Zororo (TWZ) is touted as signalling the beginning of the a new era in Zim Media. It created much buzz before its premier and now that it has finally aired I'll will be answering the major questions are people have for the show. The major questions are:
How does it fare compared to other shows past and present???
Does it really signal the beginning of an era???
Must l watch this show??
Will be answering each of these questions in the review below.
How Does it fare to other local shows past and present?
Not many shows have been released in Zimbabwe. Except the iconic Mai Chisamba Show most shows that have came never really made a mark and were quickly forgotten. However we cannot compare TWZ to Mai Chisamba Show, no TV show in Zimbabwe compares to the Mai Chisamba show. Will however compare it with Makosi Today, another popular Tv show, which at its premier was also touted as a game changer. TWZ is fun, refreshing and entertaining but it however needs time to adjust, find its ground and solidify its style, Makosi today is now in its second season and it more composed now, it has found its style. TWZ shows promise and will be looking forward to see how the season pans out. The live performances by artist gives the show a lively modern feel.
Does it really signal the beginning of a new era?
This is a tricky question, because nearly every new show is branded the game changer. TWZ is however fortunate of being aired in the era in which many Zimbos have embraced social media platforms such as Twitter and YouTube. With the launch of YouTube Zw a couple of weeks back, the show will therefore reach a bigger audience compared to shows before it. The show is refreshing and entertaining, but to say it is single handedly defining a new era will be an overstatement. Firstly only the pilot was aired, despite it being promising we cannot put game changing tags on the show yet. Secondly there are other shows such as Zambezi News, and Makosi today which are highly successful and pushing for the dawn of the new era....hence I can say TWZ will further strengthen that movement. All these shows are changing the Zim TV industry.
Must I watch this show?
TWZ is like Tonight with David Letterman, it offers some great interviews, funny dialogues and musical performances. Its a recipe that has been working for years. Its a show that will please anyone who loves some great dialogue, insight about local artists and some musical performances. The interviews are not as deep and serious those on Makosi Today, not as viewer engaging as on Mai Chisamba show, the dialogue is not as crazy as Zambezi News. TWZ manages to maintain a balance between these elements. Its a refreshing show, some full edges needed to be polished, am not yet a fan of the narration voice, the laugh-pad or crowd still need to be polished. In overall the show is a welcomed addition to Zim Media and we'll be looking forward to many seasons. and Yes you should watch it.
