ExQ - ChiHatrick EP Review
ExQ is one of the finest artists we have in the country, he has been in the game for over 20 years now. He has managed to adapt and evolve his sound to meet the modern sound over those 20 plus years, he has matured in his art, you can still hear the elements that made him a favourite of many during the days of Ndichakutevera, Musalala, Mazirudo in his music but with a more mature aura around his style.
Mr Putiti as he also affectionately known has been on a roll for quite a number of consecutive releases now. Both his previous releases (Enoch, & Verified Milestone) have been quite successful. He has found home in the cool afro beat sound, its perfectly fits his vocals and style. He sometimes adds some soulfulness to his productions like on the track Lights Out featuring Gemma Griffiths or add some jazz elements like on Mwana Iyeyu featuring Holy Ten. So going into this new offering was wondering how is he going to spice up his sound.
The ChiHatrick EP is out and today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts on the tracks down below and share my final thoughts at the end.
1. Diwawo
On this track ExQ is saying am tired of chasing women and spending crazy amounts of money, I now want to be loved also. Its a track for those who have been unlucky in love for some time, those who have been chasing their crushes for some time without any luck. The production is done well, DJ Tamuka now has a great understanding of the type of arrangements that make ExQ shine more and he showed it again on this track. This track has that feel good vibe which makes it easy to listen to over and over again.
2. Awe (feat Delroy Shewe)
This is a track you sing when you are inspired, amazed by you partner. When their character, appearance, style just feel you with respect and amazement. The collaboration between the two ExQ and Delroy Shewe works well. The the production is done well, its a chilled track, works well for serenading your other half, that one who you are in Awe of.
3. Deya (feat Alvin Tha New Guy)
When you finally win that lady you are in Awe of, you get to experience love like never before. You love everything about her, her looks drive you crazy, you love how she dances and moves, you are ready to fight anyone who dares to interfere. The collaboration between the two works well. The production is done well, it carries on with that feel good vibe from the first track.
So ya that's it for ChiHatrick EP and its quite a solid offering from the Kurudhudhu. ExQ has now settled into this lovely cool afro beat sound and in such a state he is in, its hard to make something boring.
The production is well done, ExQ teamed up with DJ Tamuka whom he has great chemistry with and it shows throughout the project. The project has that feel good vibe throughout, its hard to sound bad in such a setup. However as much as the track sound good, they don't sound exceptional, that's the downside of feel good tracks, you can listen to them a lot of times but they rarely end up being the most impressive.
The project is all about Love, from ExQ saying I have enough of chasing love, I now need to be loved also, to him finding a girl that just amazes him and getting into a relationship with that girl and finally experiencing the love he was crying for in the first track.
In conclusion I have to say this is a good project, its short so its hard to mess up an EP with only just 3 track but despite that ExQ did well.
Overall Rating: 6.8/10
