Track Review: Nutty O & Kazz - In The Mix
One of the hardest things for any foreign based Zim artist is creating a track that connects with the local masses, regardless UK based Kazz is working very hard to disperse that notion. One of the best ways to get some traction on local circles is collaborating with those who already have some traction in the local circles and that's what Kazz has done on this track. He teamed up with rising dancehall star Nutty O, a young artist who many regard as massively underrated. Have listened to the track a number of times now and will be sharing my views and thoughts on the track.
They went for a smooth, feel good and laid back kind of dancehall vibe or "summery vibe" as they described on their website. The instrumental is quite minimal and clean, its sounding lovely. Verseless was in charge of the production and he did quite a good job as always.
In The Mix is about letting off the steam and having good time. Sipping on that drink that you love whilst vibing/enjoying with that girl that you like.
The two artists gave good performances on the track. Nutty O gave his usual superb signature performance which blended well with the track and gave it the required dancehall vibe. Kazz is more of an RnB singer and he soothed out the track with his lovely vocals. Combined the collaboration works well, the different styles of the two artists complement each other quite well.
In overall this is a lovely song, its well sung and produced. The one complaint I have is that the track is too short, hope they is a longer version on the side. However despite sounding lovely I do not see the track catching up with the majority of Zimbo's , it may get a commendable amount of airplay on the various radio stations but it will not have much traction outside the radio stations. That is mainly because in terms of urban sound evolution on the local front we are at a certain stage and only tracks that fall into that stage get mileage or massive traction among the masses. This track by Nutty O & Kazz does not fall into that stage and that will be it's disadvantage, but some good visuals will help the track go much further.
What are your thoughts on the track???
