Track Review: Ammara Brown - Akiliz
Ammara is is perfectly poised to be Zimbabwe's Pop Queen, she has the appeal, image, looks and name to own that crown, the only thing left are the hit songs. With that said she is now facing the defining moment in her career with her upcoming album, if it's anything above average then she will undoubtedly be the Pop Queen, if not she will become another artist with so much potential. In preparation of her upcoming album which is coming beginning of October she has released the 1st single from that album, have listened to the track and will be sharing my views and thoughts on the track.
Ammara does not stick to a certain genre so you never know what her next song will sound like except that it has to be catchy (that's a given for all pop queens) and on this track she went for an afro pop sound. DJ Tamuka was in charge of the production and he did quite a good job. The instrumental seems to be inspired by Runtown's Mad Over You especially the first part but DJ Tamuka then added some distinctively Zim bass progressions on the choruses which gave the song a feel many will relate to.
This track is aimed at Akiliz, a super hot gold digger who charms ladies into relationships and then takes advantage of them whilst spending all their cash. He pretends to be in love so the lady would open up to him and the he takes advantage of her emotional vulnerabilities.
Ammara Brown delivered a respectable performance on the vocals and did her best to complement the instrumental. The chorus is kinda catchy and that will help endear her with fans.
In overall this is a jam her fans will enjoy, the production is done well and the theme will resonate with quite a number of ladies. However there is still some work to be done before Ammara rises to the top and songwriting is one of those aspects she still needs to work on. As her first solo jam this is quite good but it does not really move me that much, it does not hype me up for the upcoming album as I expected, maybe her next single will get me to join the Ammartian bandwagon.
Lastly the album will be released in a period where a host of other albums from more popular and established artists will be dropping; Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Killer T, Oliver Mtukudzi, ExQ are all releasing albums in the coming two months and Ammara's album has to be exceptionally good to get the attention of the masses.
What are your thoughts on the track???
