Track Review: Kambo Boys - Sweet Larissa

Last year when I finally succumbed to the suggestion videos on YouTube and watched Melo my brain could not comprehend what was happening on screen. My knowledge of sungura and its videos was not matching with what I was watching, during the first couple of plays the song seemed like it was a voice over and had to use my lip reading skills to finally admit that this was actually not a voice over. Melo is a lovely song and it made me a fan of the UK based Kambo boys. At the beginning of the year, legendary producer Mono Mukundu announced that he is working with the Kambo Boys on another track and I began the countdown to the track. I'm happy to say that the track has finally dropped and I was one of the first people to watch it. Now after a lot of plays, I will be sharing my views and thoughts on the track with you.

The track was produced by Mono Mukundu and he did a good job. Mono is one of the best guitarists in the country and on tracks such as this he shines. The track started on a mellow, chilled and soulful tip laced with some nice lead guitar work. Given the theme of the track, that is a fitting intro. Then on 01.59 the instrumental switches up to some Dhewa kind of Sungura, which will get you dancing till the end. All in all the production is done very well, great job by Mono.

This song is a promise to sweet Larissa, a promise that I will never let you go but will cherish you forever. Also at the same time it stresses the importance of Larissa, the support and warmth she brings. The boys delivered some very good vocal performances, they matched and blended with the isntrumental quite well.

The visuals are directed by Ovie Williams and he did a commendable job. They will let you know that this is a love song, they did quite well in trying to tell a story and visualize a feeling. The setting is quite classy and provides a lovely background. The best/winning part of the visuals are the dances....particularly the super dances by Dylan Loketto, the white lad. Its a very rare sight seeing a white guy who can dance that well to sungura music, in fact the last white guy I saw who danced as good was the guy who frequently featured in Awilo Longomba's videos. Lastly the Kambo Boys are looking good in those beautiful suits, stylist was on point.

In overall this is a lovely jam, the production is done very well, the vocals and theme are on point, the visuals are standard and the Dylan dances are superb. Its a fitting follow up to Melo. Love how these guys are changing the perception we had about Sungura without destroying the essence of the genre. Looking forward to more projects from the Kambo Boys.

What are your thoughts on the track and visuals??
