Video Review : Jah Prayzah - Mudhara Vachauya
Jah is currently riding high with his album Mudhara Vachauya. Did a review of the album a couple of weeks back, read the review here: Album Review: Jah Prayzah - Mudhara Vachauya. He has now released the visuals for the title track and arguably the biggest single from the album at the moment. Jah used to release a DVD consisting of the visuals for all the tracks on an album about 6 months after the album is released but this year he changed that trend. He seems to be following the international trend whereby an artist will release visuals for the biggest single at that moment to help the single in the charts and other considerations.
They went back to SA to shoot the visuals for this one, (Watora Mari ft Diamond Platnumz was also shot in SA). Molotovcocktail.tv was in charge of the production and Nic Roux was the director for the video. They went for a lady waiting for his husband to come back from serving in a war scenario. The setting is a classic tried and tested romantic scenario, however such a secenario is not that common to Zimbos, its more of a brighter, more vivid setting of America in the 1940's. Besides from movies on TV, such a scenario is not relate-able to many Zimbo's, so some will love the creativity and some will not. Personally I feel a more closer to home scenario would have been much better.
The quality of the shots is standard, the shot angles are good. They pulled a movie like set for the video which is awesome, Jah really dug deep into his pockets for such a set, (for someone who is well endorsed by the corporate world its to be expected). The end result is a bright lovely video. The story line is not the best but its okay.
This song is alleged to be political and Jah said the video will explain everything. In the video Jah himself is the Mudhara, an army general hence the statement; "...shumba inoruma...". Personally I do not think the video will answer the conspiracy theorist but it will in a way fuel them, well him playing the army general will in a way serve as confirmation to the theorists.
In overall, I loved the setting & the bright colours. Its definitely a departure from the videos from his previous albums, there is less dancing, less humor (no more Mabla), his band in overall is featuring less and less in the videos now. Well with Jah starting to get continental recognition, his videos are definitely going to change and a lot of changes will also follow, both in videos and sound. Regardless its a good video.
What are your thought on the visuals??
