Voltz JT - Life Of Muvhimi Album Review

Image
This is probably a late review but it had to be done, it's a project that has caused a lot of buzz in the streets and today will be sharing my views on the project. Have been very impressed by Voltz JT since I heard These Days, he found a way to execute Drill in a way that doesn't feel like he is copying the British Rappers, he made it easy to digest. After These Days he followed it up with Nyaya Dzemari and he continued on an upward trajectory from there. He went on to win the Newcomer Award of the Year that year and despite the noise associated with the awards it was one award which few could dispute, he deserved it.  Currently he is among the top names in the genre, he commands a huge following in the streets. When he announced the album many got excited, given Holy Ten had also released many wanted to see how he was gonna fare and if he was going to excel the level he set with his singles. The album has been out for a while now and today will be sharing my views and thought...

Tanto Wavie - Sungura Museve II Album Review

Image
What I love about Tanto is how he is trying something different. Am always saying Zim Artist will find it near impossible to dominate the continental or global scene till we create our own sound!! As long as we copying we will continually play second fiddle, with our own sound we will lead and the whole world will be following us. Tanto is one artist who is trying to find such a sound and because of that he will have my attention everytime he drops something. Was thoroughly impressed by the first Sungura Museve album, also his last Amasungura EP was also a good experiment which I enjoyed. So heading into this album I had many expectations, will it surpass the first Sungura Museve?? Have listened to the project a couple of times and today will be sharing with you my thoughts on the project. As usual will be doing a track by track review and conclude with my overall thoughts on the album. 1. Mbiradzakondo On this first track Tanto is addressing all those who want to disrupt his work, rev...

Kae Chaps - It's Not Me, It's You Album Review

Image
Kae Chaps has been one of the biggest winners of the Covid pandemic era. Juzi was a big hit when it dropped and to show he was not a one hit wonder he followed with the hit Huchapa and then another hit Gehena and another one with Impilo. His album Mavanga had been overlooked by many but since he blew up most have been streaming his whole discography and wondered how they did not know of the guy earlier.  He has without doubt shown he means business, he has became the king of heartbreak music, probably taking over from the iconic Sanii Makhalima who used to hold that title, (a collaboration of the two will be flames). Kae Chaps has now dropped another project and have gotten my copy and today after some time of listening will be sharing my views and thoughts on the project. As usual will be doing a track by track review and conclude with my overall thoughts. 1. Head High (Intro)  On the intro Kae Chaps is saying will keep my head high despite the challenges I am facing. The pro...

Asaph - Big Mhofu EP Review

Image
Talking about true ambassadors of local Rap Asaph is among the best ones, if not the biggest one. He is one artist whom you will gladly recommend to a non Zimbo who wants a taste of the local Hip hop scene.  Over the years Asaph has proved he knows how to make good music with his many chart toppers, he has proven over and over that he is  solid with the pen, his wordplay and bars are among the best in the country. For those who have been following the genre for some time it came as no surprise when Asaph was signed by Def Jam Africa, he absolutely deserved it.  Now that the hype around Def Jam has died down, the concentration switched to the music, which direction was Asaph going to take on his new label??. Can this move help him unlock new levels?? This move also gave Asaph a great platform to penetrate the SA and regional market, something that many pray for, how then is he going to do that?? The questions keep coming and gladly his first project under Def Jam Africa ha...

Indigo Saint - Block 34: The Tales of the Boujie Pantsula Album Review

Image
Despite the noise made about Harare, Bulawayo in my opinion still remains the creative capital of Zimbabwe. The level of creativity in the city is unmatched, lived in Byo for 3 years and the city has this vibe you cannot get anywhere in Zimbabwe. There are lot of extremely talented artists who may not be talked about mainly because few Shonas can comprehend isiNdebele but truly deserve more acknowledgement. One such artist people in the city were making noise about is Indigo Saint, the name has being mentioned a couple of times and decided to take a listen.  Coincidentally the just also just released a new project, so I definitely jumped on it and today after a couple of listens will be sharing my views and thoughts on the project.  As usual will be doing a track by track review of the album and will share my overall thoughts as I conclude the review. 1. Young King Tichala The first track is a self praise track with Indigo Saint referring himself to a Young King as he has been...

Jungle Loco Gwala Mnandi - Album Review

Image
Zim Hip Hop has been on a massive upwards trajectory over the past couple of years. Many people are now willing to give the genre a chance and see what they can do and many artists are grabbing the chance. One such artist who is making the most of the opportunity is Jungle Loco, despite not being named among the top mainstream artists of the genre he is putting in the work and its becoming hard to ignore his talent. His last project The First Book Of Loco is among the best hip hop projects of the past two years. Will this new project take off from where he left. Have managed to get hold of this album and after a number of listens today will be sharing my views and thoughts on the project down below.  As usual will be doing a track by track review of the project and then share my overall thoughts and overall rating as I conclude.  1. Intro Jungle Loco is flexing his talent on this intro, preparing the listener for the bar and rhyme fest that is coming. 2. Gwala Mnandi (ft The D...

Baba Harare - Zimbabwean Giant Album Review

Image
Father Harare has been on a steady rise over the years. The decision to concentrate on Jiti has been a excellent one, its a genre that many love but few artists dare to do. Most who have done some form of Jiti have had successes with their singles so it was surprising that many still shunned the genre despite the clear demand for it. Then came Baba Harare and look how he has captured the hearts of many since he left Jah Prayzah's band to go solo. He has had many huge hits but album wise he was still lacking. Yes on the albums there could be one or two hits but all the other tracks you would gladly forget. Will that change with this album?? Have to admit the project release was well planned this time around, the rollout was superbly done, Baba Harare now has a proper team around him. Was greatly impressed with the many quality videos that have been released so far, rolling out the tracks with visuals was a move which I greatly enjoyed. Now to the main thing, has Baba Harare finally ...

Freeman - David & Goliath Album Review

Image
If consistency was a person Freeman is that person. The dude has been dropping solid projects for years, its hard to think of a year Freeman released a subpar project. He is the best when it comes to album in the entire Zim Dancehall fraternity, noone comes close. He is not a perfect artist, well noone is, his live performances is still not up to the level I feel he should be at now but regardless of that for over ten years now he has been a constant on our playlist and is not showing signs of slowing down. Another thing I highly respect is the team the HKD Boss has around him, they are doing an amazing job. Freeman's image is solid and his online presence is well curated. Well done to the team. Now onto this new album, it's no secret that his past projects have been good. Yes you may love one album more than the other but you cannot say the other is bad. So how does this new one fare?? Have been on a break but once this project dropped I jumped online ans started streaming and...

Celebrating the Unsung Heroes in Zim Music

Image
I am proud to be Zimbabwean, everywhere I go I fly the Zim flag high, I am not ashamed to be Zimbabwean. I have a lot of respect for those who fought for me to have the freedom and peace of mind. Yes we not a perfect nation but regardless I have the utmost respect for all who sacrificeed their lives for the freedom I now have, the freedom to write, express my thoughts and share my passion with all of you. On top of the liberation heroes and heroines we also have those who have given their all to ensure the arts industry, the music industry to be specific grows to the level it is today. Many Zimbos have their favourite genre and artist but there are those usually overlooked people who have done a ton load of work behind the scenes, who have greatly contributed to the growth of the local music industry. Today on this article will be honoring those heroes and heroines who have been instrumental. When we finally create a hall of fame for those who have contributed greatly to the music indu...

Tocky Vibes - Chicken & Chama Mixtape Review

Image
When we're talking about exciting artist's Tocky Vibes is definitely on that list. Dude has reinventing himself in an amazing way and the results are beautiful to witness. He is one of those artist's who are very comfortable with their art. Tocky releases many projects that its sometimes hard to keep up, he believes in giving art to the people and not holding it for that "proper time". On top of a number of singles he has already dropped in 2022 he has also released a new project and this time I decided to jump on it and do a quick review before he starts dropping more singles left right and center. For this album will not be doing the usual track by track review because the project has 35 songs, the article will be too long. Am just jumping straight to the conclusion.  Production : Tocky has reinventied himself in a way where he is no longer constrained to one type of genre or sound, this gives him a lot of space for experimenting and he exploits that freedom gre...

Mark Ngwazi & Njanja Express - Nharo Nezvine Nharo Album Review

Image
Of all the Sungura albums that were promised this year this was the one I was anticipating the most. Was hugely impressed by Mark's last project Chamugwegwedu Chamatindike and was very much waiting to see how he was gonna follow that up.  The release date was also interesting, two weeks after Baba Sharo releases!! In most cases the lesser artist in terms of brand releases first to give their project a chance at being listened to before the big star releases but Mark stuck with his date. That alone showed the bravery and confidence he had in his project. The question then was, will the album match the hype and obviously how will it fare compared to Macheso's.  When the album dropped I rushed to get my copy and got to listening. Today will be sharing my views and thoughts on the album.  As usual will be doing a track by track review and then share my overall thoughts as I conclude.  1. Gokwe Mark on this track is dismissing the fact that certain places make one dumb, h...
