Voltz JT - Life Of Muvhimi Album Review

This is probably a late review but it had to be done, it's a project that has caused a lot of buzz in the streets and today will be sharing my views on the project.

Have been very impressed by Voltz JT since I heard These Days, he found a way to execute Drill in a way that doesn't feel like he is copying the British Rappers, he made it easy to digest. After These Days he followed it up with Nyaya Dzemari and he continued on an upward trajectory from there. He went on to win the Newcomer Award of the Year that year and despite the noise associated with the awards it was one award which few could dispute, he deserved it.

Currently he is among the top names in the genre, he commands a huge following in the streets. When he announced the album many got excited, given Holy Ten had also released many wanted to see how he was gonna fare and if he was going to excel the level he set with his singles. The album has been out for a while now and today will be sharing my views and thoughts on the album.

1. The Life of Muvhimi Intro

JT ushers us into this album by narrating the challenges one faces in the life of a hustler. Life does not always go your way, you shall lose many times but one day all shall make sense. The track is produced well, JT delivered a good performance.

2. Jamba MaNumber

JT is saying don't worry yourself much, let lose and dance to some music by JT. He is also thanking his fans for sticking by him, reassuring them that as long as he is there, the good music will keep on coming. Production is spot on. JT was good on the vocals.

3. Dollar Deals (ft Suhn)

Jecha Trap teams up with uptown rapper Suhn to deliver this jam where they are saying they are tired of small deals, they are now making big moves. The two managed to compliment each other well. Production is done well.

4. Uri Wangu (ft Dobba Don)

JT is saying if you come through for me when I need you you are my true friend. He is now choosing those that chose him and won't be forcing friendships. The track is well produced and arranged. Voltz JT was solid on the vocals and Dobba Don also delivered but towards the end what was he singing about! .

5. Mangwana

Voltz is say am no longer concentrating on the past but am now concentrating on the current and future. What happened between us is now in the past let's move on, I have many haters already, don't need new ones. JT was slick with the pen on this one, the way he addressed the issue of tiffs, beefs, disagreements and making peace with what has happened is on point. The production is done well, the arrangement of the track is superb. JT shines the most on these kind of beats, we get peak JT.

6. Slick Pastor Interlude

Voltz is talking with Nigel the Slick Pastor and they are talking about self reflection, taking audit of your life, accepting your failures/shortcomings and taking the necessary steps to improve yourself.

7. Rerukai

The boxing match commentary sample at the intro set the tone well for this track. The production is well done, track is well arranged. On this track JT is saying be chilled, let them think you are clueless, keep your cards close whilst making your moves. Don't force yourself into situations where you are not wanted. JT delivered his signature performance.

8. Kwedu Tiri Two (ft Tamy Moyo)

When this collaboration was announced its got many excited and the two did not dissapoint, they managed to complement each other very well, their vocal work well together. On the track they are saying let's go somewhere where its just the two of us so we can enjoy each others company. Voltz JT delivered a solid performance and Tamy was also up to par adding that much needed sweetness to the track. Track is well produced.

9. Pfuurai Nekuno Part 2

Part 1 of the track was the single that created hype for this album. The difference between the two is that Emtee is not available on this one we get another JT verse instead. Am more inclined to this version more, but the first one is fire though. Production is solid.

10. Kure (ft Galis Kush)

On this last track JT went fir a different kind of sound and arrangement. Unlike the usually bass heavy trap drill tracks, he went for a lighter acoustic guitar led vibe. On the track Voltz is saying unto his lady that if he sees her he is filled with joy, if she is away he feels lost. This is a different side of Voltz JT, its refreshing.

Stream The Album: Life of Muvhimi

So ya that's it for The Life Of Muvhimi, a lot of noise has been made about this project and it's definitely worth it, Voltz JT delivered the goods here.

The production is well done. Loved the arrangements on this project, the tracks flow together very well, this is a project you will gladly let play till the end without any need to skip. JT is switching from the drill sound that made him a favourite of many in the hip hop game to a more trap sound. The sound we got on Shamwari Yangu is the direction he is now taking, he is more chilled, composed and it suits him. The tracks are bass heavy a move which was made to match his voice. On Kure he showed he is not afraid to leave his comfort zone.

On this project the main topic is the struggles of a hustler just as the project title implies. JT is aligning his efforts, thoughts, plans on the important stuff in his life (his life goals) and distancing himself from petty issues that waste his time. He is entering full hustle mode. He also passed through the love and relationship lane on Kwedu Tiri Two and Kure.

On vocals JT was solid, just as he did on Shamwari Yangu he continued with that vibe on this project, I can safely say that the new JT signature performance. The featured artists all did very well, Dobba Don was good, Galis Kush was solid, Suhn snapped and Tamy Moyo killed it.

To end this review I have very much enjoyed this project. JT has set the standard high with this one, you can clearly get why many made noise about this album. It also has great replay value. If this album does not make you believe in the guy then I don't know what will. Its actually hard to chose a favourite as I enjoyed all the tracks but if am to chose one at the moment it's Mangwana. I highly recommend this one.

My Overall Rating: 8/10
