Track Review : ExQ feat Killer T - Nhema
If you have been following this blog you will know how much i'm loving ExQ's new sound. His last album Putiti was a joy to listen to ( Putiti Album Review ), he introduced us to the new ExQ on that album and I just fell in love with the new sound. He did not stop there as he went on to release the superb Jerusarema featuring HKD Boss Freeman towards the end of 2016 (Jerusarema Track Review), he opened his 2017 account with another big jam Let's Talk About It featuring label mate Nutty O (Let's Talk About It Track Review). So with such a proven track record, I was definitely looking forward to his next jam and it has finally dropped. So will be sharing my views and thoughts on the new single.
The track was produced by Millitary Touch Movement's resident producer DJ Tamuka and he nailed the production. Have been saying for some time now that DJ Tamuka is the best when it comes to Afro Beats in Zimbabwe and he further solidified his position with this production. The instrumental is arranged quite well and it complements the vocals very well. It's different from Jerusarema but it has a similar feel and would blend seamlessly with Jerusarema. Great work on the production by Dj Tamuka.
On this track they are singing about those people who are always busy spreading false rumors about you in the hope of tarnishing you image, those people who make it their job to bring you down. The guys are therefore saying despite all that they will continue living their lives and will not waste their time thinking about the naysayers.
Both artists delivered very good vocal performances; ExQ was at his usual best throughout the song, sticking to his unique style whilst blending well with the instrumental. Killer T was also on point on his part, his vocals blended with the instrumental very well and he nailed the chorus which is straight to the point, catchy and easy to sing along to. The collaboration works.
In overall this is a superb jam, its well produced, well structured and well sung. Zim dancehall is in control at the moment and many artists are being lured into singing Zim dancehall but ExQ realized that instead of trying to fight Zim Dancehall he can work with the guys without compromising his sound, vision and style, and that move is paying dividends for him as testified by the success of Jerusarema and Let's Talk About It both which feature dancehall artists. Lastly ExQ hinted that he has a new album in the works, I'm definitely looking forward to that album.
What are your thoughts on the track???
