Track Review: Gze ft Sister Flame - Love Song

Gze is arguably the best shona rapper out there at the moment!! Every time he goes behind the mic its fireworks. He has been delivering some of the best verses this year. His track Imhandu is definitely one of the best hip hop tracks of the year (Imhandu Track Review). With the massive social unrest happening around the capital Harare, Gze decided to share his thought on the happening, the effects and problems such unrest is causing.

The track was produced by Nickbwai and he did a very good job. The track is emotional and the instrumental had to match the emotional nature of the jam and it did. The guitar work is superb, I don't know who was in charge of the acoustic guitar, maybe Sylent Nqo or someone else but regardless of who it was, they were superb. The arrangement is very good, the beat is clean and does not divert your attention from the vocals but it complements them. When the bass kicks in at the start it reminds me of the Changes riddim from Jamaica. All in all the production is done exceptionally well.

This is a love song but not the typical male female love but rather love at a societal and national level. Gze is addressing the negative elements that are being caused and left behind from the ongoing protests,= resulting from social & economic decay happening in the country. He is advocating for exchange of ideas/dialogue rather than rushing to pick up arms because the aftermath of a war will affect us all. He is urging people to have love (be mindful) for one another and the future of the nation as a whole. This is a very sensitive topic, the decay is evident for all of us to see but our ideas of moving forward are very different and this is Gze's desired option. However historically a revolution always come with a huge price, its rarely peaceful/diplomatic but we just hope for the better.

The two artists gave very good performances. Gze was passionate and superb on the vocals. His verses are audible and his style of flow is just on point. Sister Flame spiced up the jam with her lovely vocals. The collaboration works very well.

In overall this is a solid jam. The theme is sensitive and I do not fully agree with Gze's option. Dialogue is a very good and respectable option & theory, but putting it in practice will be a different issue altogether, especially considering how those in power have reacted to dialogue attempts in the past or how they react when important issues are raised by the masses.

What are your thoughts on the track??
